Then the Philistines came up, and encamped in Judah, and fought against Lehi.
And the men of Judah said unto them,
Why are ye come up against us? They replied, "We are here to arrest Samson and take revenge on him."
Then 3,000 men of Judah came to the cave of the rock Etam and said to Samson,
"Don't you know that the Philistines are ruling over us? What are you doing? "
He replied, "I have only avenged them enough." And they said unto him, We are here to bind thee, that we may deliver thee to the Philistines.
Samson said, "Promise me you won't kill me." "We will not kill you," they said, "but we will hand you over to them."
So they bound him with two new ropes and took him off the cliff. When he came to Lehi, the Philistines ran to him and shouted. Then the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon him, and he became strong; and he brake the withs of the bands that were round about him;
He found a jawbone of a donkey that had just died. He took it and through it he killed 1,000 people.
So Samson said,
"With the jawbone of a donkey, I have killed a thousand people. By the jawbone of a donkey, I gathered them. "
After that he threw away the bone, and called that place the Bone of the Jaw.
Then Samson was very thirsty, so he cried out to the Lord and said,
"You have given me victory. Will you now kill me with thirst and carry me away captive to the uncircumcised Philistines? "
Then God parted the land of Lehi, and water came out. Samson drank from it and regained his strength. So the well was named Hacore and there is still this well in Lehi.
Samson judged Israel for 20 years while the Philistines ruled over Israel.
