The men of Ephraim gathered themselves together, and passed over Jordan unto Zaphon, and said unto Jephthah, Wherefore passedst thou not with us, to fight against the children of Ammon? We will join you in burning down your house. "
But Jephthah said to them, "My people are at war with the Ammonites. I called you but you did not pay attention.
When I saw that you would not help me to fight against them, then I went up against the Ammonites, and the Lord gave me victory. Now why have you come to fight against me?"
Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim, and took it. (For the people of Ephraim said, "You men of Gilead, who live in Ephraim and Manasseh, have forsaken Ephraim!") -Ephraim.
