Chapter 10 - Chapter 10 Taking Back Financial Control

"What happened? What are you arguing about?" Lincoln Green heard Diana Edith's cry and went upstairs.

Rose Taylor glared at Abigail fiercely. "It's nothing, really. Diana accidentally tripped while tidying up Abigail's room. Are you okay, Abigail?"

She spoke with apparent concern, but her eyes were full of warning.

"Yeah." Abigail lowered her head and muttered softly.

Lincoln was most displeased with Abigail's timid demeanor. However, seeing his daughter, who had degraded herself out of fear of upsetting him, he rarely lost his temper. "Finish tidying up and then come eat."

"It'll be done soon," Rose responded.

Abigail suppressed her annoyance, stepped forward, and gently tugged at her father's sleeve. "Dad, I lost my wallet. If it weren't for Mr. Pei today…"

"Mr. Pei will be your brother-in-law in the future. It's only right for him to help you," Rose interrupted before Lincoln could speak.

"But what if I lose money for fare again next time? I know I shouldn't always ask for money now that I'm in college, but I eat a lot…" Abigail changed the topic awkwardly. "If it's not Mr. Pei next time and someone else doesn't help me, what will I do?"

Lincoln originally agreed with Rose, thinking a replacement card would solve the problem. However, after hearing Abigail, his face darkened. "You are a Miss of the Green family. How can you go out and borrow money?"

He shot a gloomy look at Rose. Usually, Rose managed Abigail's living expenses. Although Abigail didn't say it explicitly, her words implied she didn't have enough money.

Rose silently gritted her teeth. That fat bitch, was it on purpose? "Honey, it's my fault. Abigail is grown up now, and her expenses are higher than before. I'll have someone get her a new phone and card right away. How about increasing her monthly allowance by ten thousand?"

Lincoln nodded after listening.

Abigail sneered internally, old fox, and then said in a voice filled with self-blame, "Dad, no need to increase it. Don't blame Aunt Edith. I'll eat less in the future."

Lincoln was displeased. A girl, how much could she eat? Could the Green family not afford it? How embarrassing would it be if others knew?

"Increase it by twenty thousand. Have someone handle it immediately." Lincoln decided.

Abigail's lips curled into a dark smile. Seeing Diana, who got up again, she quickly stepped forward and helped her. Her plump hand accidentally squeezed Diana's wrist hard. "Aunt Edith, take it easy."

"Ah, you cheap bitch!"

"Aunt Edith, I… I didn't mean to…" In an instant, Abigail's face was covered with tears.

She felt very wronged.

Lincoln hadn't gone far. Hearing Diana call Abigail a cheap bitch, he got furious and rushed back to kick Diana. "Who are you cursing?"

As much as he disliked his daughter Abigail, she was still his own flesh and blood and certainly didn't deserve to be bullied by servants. Considering Abigail's earlier reaction, this old hag probably hadn't mistreated her for the first time!

"Ah… Sir…" The pain in Diana's wrist hadn't subsided before she fell to the ground again. Facing the enraged Lincoln, she lost her previous arrogance and called him timidly, even suppressing the severe pain in her body.

"Is this how you usually treat Abigail?" Lincoln's well-maintained middle-aged face was full of doubt.

If Diana could bully Abigail in front of him like this, who knew what she did behind his back, no wonder Abigail was treated like a beggar today.

"I… I didn't… Sir, it was a misunderstanding!"

"Get out!"

"Lincoln, don't be angry. Diana isn't usually like this. It's just Abigail twisted her wrist with that pull, and then she accidentally made her fall heavily earlier, so she spoke without thinking." Rose quickly stepped forward, gently patting Lincoln's back to calm him.

After speaking, she squeezed Lincoln's hand and soothingly said, "Diana has worked for the Green family for so many years. Don't you know her by now? At most, she can go to the company to do logistics. You know Diana is my aunt's relative…"

"Hmph, don't let me see that old hag again."

Lincoln turned and left. Rose shot Diana a look and hurried to catch up. "Honey, I'll make your favorite Dongpo pork later. Don't get yourself worked up over this…"

Abigail watched her father leave and sneered. This father really was worthless, abandoning his humiliated daughter after a few words from Rose.

Ha.

Fortunately, she didn't walk away empty-handed. For now, her finances wouldn't be controlled by Rose and her daughter.

But that might not be the case forever. She still needed to figure out a way to survive on her own.

Thinking about this, Abigail started tidying up the messy room. As a doctor, she had mild OCD. It took her an hour to finish and she found an old tin box with stickers under the bed.

From the original owner's memory, she vaguely remembered it belonged to her mother and she had always kept it hidden.

Inside was an old Nokia phone and a couple's photo.

Abigail charged the phone and picked up the faded old photo. The young Lincoln in the picture was tall and handsome, while the woman beside him was stunning.

Even through the photo, her unparalleled beauty was apparent, comparable to Hong Kong stars of the '80s or '90s.

Was this the original owner's mother?

Abigail looked at her own face in the mirror, dejectedly put the box down, and turned on the phone.

Beep beep beep…

Immediately, a few text messages came in, all uniformly saying, "Hello, Miss Green, we are from Midsummer Trust. According to Minnie Swift's instructions, all shares under her name will automatically transfer to you when you turn eighteen. Please confirm receipt."

Abigail, "..."

Shares?

Abigail then noticed a black gold card under the photo. After thinking for a moment, she called the bank and heard the mechanical response, "Sorry, your balance is too large to be queried. Please go to the bank's VIP counter for service."

A huge balance?

Abigail laughed. She thought she was a pauper, but it turned out she was a hidden wealthy person.
