The small newborn, thanks to ample nutrition in his mother's body, weighed eight pounds six ounces at birth. His big, bright eyes were wide open and curious.
Elder Piers couldn't let go of him, and the guests warmly congratulated him.
After a while, the little guy began to squirm in Elder Piers's arms. He was then taken by the nurse and, with Elder Piers's permission, brought before Ruby Green.
Ruby Green took the baby with a seemingly excited expression. But the moment the little guy got close to Ruby, he suddenly started crying loudly, drawing everyone's attention.
Ruby, still holding the baby, felt a surge of hatred and wanted to throw the little bundle to the ground. But faced with everyone's gazes, she could only smile awkwardly, holding the baby in an uncomfortable posture.
Abigail Green felt a pang in her heart upon seeing the baby cry and turn red. Just as she was about to speak, she heard a clear and pleasant male voice behind her, "Kelly, take the baby upstairs."
"Yes." The nurse hurriedly took the baby from Ruby's hands, gently swaying and coaxing him. But the little guy wouldn't calm down. Instead, he cried even louder, his breathing becoming unsteady.
Abigail felt intense heartache and wanted to step forward, but Rose Taylor held her back forcefully, whispering a threat, "Don't you dare."
Brandon Piers glanced in Abigail's direction and instructed the nurse, "Take him upstairs first."
Kelly didn't hesitate and carefully took the baby upstairs under everyone's gaze.
Abigail twisted Rose Taylor's acupuncture points to break free, looking at Brandon Piers. "I have medical training. Can I go up and help take care of the baby?"
Ruby and Rose's eyes widened instantly, their panic mixed with disdain. How could someone like Abigail, just because she claimed to have medical training, expect to be allowed to care for the baby in such a prestigious family like the Piers?
It was simply wishful thinking!
Especially after Abigail spoke, many people around them cast curious glances. Ruby's eyes were filled with sarcasm. As the so-called "biological mother," she wasn't introduced at Piers's birthday celebration. Even if she wanted to touch the baby, she needed Elder Piers's permission. What right did this fat bitch have?
Just then, Lincoln Green returned, having just made some connections. He happened to hear Abigail and scolded her, "Nonsense! Who let you come here!"
He was evidently embarrassed.
Abigail sensed the mockery from Rose and her daughter, as well as the disdain from the surrounding people. Her father's words were the final blow. But she remained calm, standing still as she waited for Brandon Piers's response.
Brandon paused his movement, recalling what he had heard today at Sincere Hospital. If not for Abigail's timely and precise first aid outside the hospital, the patient might not have been saved. He then noticed the eyes focused on Abigail, but the fat girl's gaze was clear, her lips slightly curved. "Pullan, take Miss Green upstairs."
"Thank you, Brandon." Abigail responded, ignoring the sudden whispers around and the murderous look from Rose and her daughter. She hurried to follow the nurse, leaving the bewildered guests downstairs.
Elder Piers thoughtfully stroked his beard and instructed Brandon to entertain the guests.
Abigail followed the nurse to the second floor and entered the nursery. She used the hand sanitizer by the side and then asked with concern, "Is he hungry?"
The nurse placed her hand near the baby's mouth and nodded, looking troubled. "He should be hungry."
"Then feed him a bit."
The nurse looked even more troubled. "The young master is allergic to proteins and doesn't drink formula. I just fed him a bit earlier, but now I have no milk."
"Then you should eat something to stimulate milk production. I'll take care of him for a while." Although this nurse couldn't breastfeed, Abigail could.
"But..." With guests present, all the servants were downstairs helping. The nurse felt uneasy.
"Brandon allowed me to come up. Naturally, he trusts me. It's not good for the baby to keep crying." Abigail decisively mentioned Brandon.
It worked. The nurse hesitated but then handed the baby to Abigail.
Strangely enough, the little guy stopped crying the moment he was in Abigail's arms. His similar peach blossom eyes curiously stared at the person in front of him.
Abigail's heart suddenly felt sour and soft. This was her baby.
