"What happened?" Brandon Piers pushed the door open and came in.
"Well... the little young master seems to really like Miss Green." Kelly looked helplessly at Abigail Green holding the little one.
Brandon Piers furrowed his brows slightly, his gaze falling on Abigail before he instinctively looked away. "Let me take him."
Saying so, Brandon stepped forward to take the son who seemed to be sent over just like that. But the little one, who was as angelic as could be in Abigail's arms, transformed into a little devil the moment he was in Brandon's arms. His cries shook the heavens and the earth.
Abigail's heart ached, and she quickly took him back. The baby instantly stopped crying and continued to nuzzle against her.
"What should we do?" Kelly asked, troubled.
Brandon had never encountered such a situation. The little one had been difficult when he was first sent over, but had never clung to anyone like this.
"Why don't I coax him to sleep first, and then leave when he's asleep?" Abigail suggested. She realized she couldn't bear to leave after experiencing the baby's complete trust and dependence on her.
"Alright." Brandon nodded. There was no other choice now.
Abigail secretly breathed a sigh of relief. Just then, they heard Ruby Green's voice from outside. "Excuse me, is the baby in there? I just heard him crying."
"Sir, Miss Green wants to see the child," Pullan reported.
"Let her in." Brandon glanced at Abigail, who was holding the baby, as he spoke.
Ruby was helped in by Rose Taylor. The first thing she saw was the extraordinarily handsome Brandon Piers, her gaze full of tender affection. "Mr. Piers, I just heard the baby crying. Did something happen? Although Abigail studies medicine, she is young and doesn't understand many things. Please don't blame her."
She immediately tried to dump the blame on Abigail.
"I'm not blaming her." Brandon looked indifferently at the heavily made-up woman in front of him.
Feeling Brandon's coldness, a touch of sadness appeared on Ruby's face. "Mr. Piers, you towards me..."
"Aren't you here to see the child?" Brandon kindly reminded the woman in front of him. She had used the excuse of caring for the baby to come in, but hadn't even looked at him once.
Ruby's body stiffened suddenly. She felt pain in her left leg, which she had unwisely uncast early for beauty's sake. Realizing her mistake, she hurried to look at the baby, only to find Abigail holding him, looking at her with mocking eyes.
A wave of anger surged straight to Ruby's brain. Her eyes widened. "Abigail, you're holding the baby like that! What if you drop him? Give him to me now."
"Your leg isn't healed yet, so maybe you shouldn't." Abigail's gaze fell on Ruby's left leg.
Abigail's calm gaze came off as taunting to Ruby, causing her to raise her voice. "You..." But she was pulled back into reality by Rose. Her tone became lamenting. "Mr. Piers, though I broke my leg from the stress of giving birth, he is still my child. I truly want to hold him..."
Ruby deliberately emphasized that she had given birth to him.
"Give her the baby." Brandon didn't believe the woman loved the child much; otherwise, she wouldn't have sent him to the Piers right after he was born.
But he was curious to see if the little one really only wanted Abigail to hold him.
Having gained permission, Ruby was secretly pleased, her gaze becoming even more tender. Yet the little one in Abigail's arms wasn't cooperative. After being held and frightened twice, he became very cautious and clung to Abigail tightly, grabbing her coat and underarm, leaving Ruby unable to take him.
Feeling Brandon's scrutinizing gaze, Ruby grew anxious. Faced with Abigail's teasing expression, she blocked Brandon's view with her body and angrily pulled the baby from Abigail.
"Waa waa waa waa... waa waa waa…"
The baby's cries echoed throughout the room again. In just a few seconds, his face turned red from crying. Ruby was so scared she loosened her grip, and the baby nearly fell. "Baby!" Abigail cried in alarm.
Brandon's face darkened. He caught the baby naturally and placed him back into Abigail's arms. "Pullan, see the two ladies out."
"Mr. Piers, I..."
"Waa waa waa waa..." The cries continued, drowning out Ruby's voice.
Pullan stepped forward. "Ladies, please."
Ruby gritted her teeth secretly, hating Abigail to the core.
