Faye opened her eyes as the sun shone down from between the leaves over head. She balked at the brightness as she lifted her arm in an attempt to shield herself. From her side, a pristine new arm came into her view. She was shocked at first, seeing her arm for the first time in what felt like an eternity.
Her breath caught in her throat as she took in the sight.
She'd never noticed how beautiful her arm was before! Damn! Hot dog!
Slowly, Faye sat up to peer over the rest of her body. She was shocked to find herself nude. What was even more shocking, however, was the quality of her nude body.
Was...this really hers? No...she definitely remembered she had a series of scars on her abdomen....
Faye found that any scar or blemish that had previously been on her body before was gone. After some inspection it turned out that this indeed was her body, though it seemed to be completely new...
"Holy shit, the goddess of fate really knows how to make a body...."
Mentioning the goddess of fate brought a strange feeling to Faye. She wasn't particularly pleased with the entity, but she owed it her new life....Honestly, she wasn't entirely sure who the goddess of fate even was. She was never religious before and found herself unable to bring a name to mind when the goddess was mentioned. It felt awkward for her to ask the equilateral who the goddess of fate was, so she hadn't.
She figured she should at least visit a temple of hers sometime during this new life. Which meant she needed to head to some other temple to ask if they knew who the goddess of fate was. Honestly, there were so many gods and goddesses that it was impossible to know them all. She wasn't sure how easy it was going to be to pay back this debt....
Slowly, Faye rose to her feet. The ground was covered in debris from the trees around. Usually, it wouldn't have bothered her, but due to her body having no callouses built up, the leaves and sticks hurt as they dug into her baby like skin.
Faye made her way through the forest. She wasn't sure where she was, but she assumed it wasn't far from where she died. It didn't make sense to her that the goddess would plant her somewhere unfamiliar while also being naked. That seemed a bit...much.
Slowly, she made her trek, hissing in pain every so often as she stepped on a particularly pointed rock. Faye assumed she was in the Divian forest a few miles out from Jolis. Jolis was a city in the northern part of the country of Gosmarre. It wasn't a large country, but it was a good place to get a start as an adventurer. Which is why she'd originally decided not to travel too far from the city before getting more experience. She'd grown up within the city, but hadn't traveled outside of it much. She wasn't too familiar with the Divian forest, but she didn't think it was too big.
Time passed by slowly as Faye made her way forward. After a while she saw the trees beginning to thin and she breathed a sigh of relief as she finally made her way toward the edge of the tree line.
She stepped out of the forest to find herself beside a road. Looking left and right, Faye saw nothing in either direction.
Unease began to creep into her heart.
Most of the roads outside of the Divian forest on the city side were used for trade. They were well carved and well cared for due to this. The road in front of her seemed worn, but there were weeds slowly creeping in from the sides and some even growing in the center. It didn't seem to be as well traveled as she had seen before.
'Crap...did I come out on the opposite side of the freaking forest?'
Faye sighed and turned to head back into the tree line.
She was still nude and she didn't want to come across some unsavory people alone, without a weapon or armor. She felt it was best to try to stay relatively hidden from view before making any sort of decision to ask for help.
Although she had died young, Faye was always the type to be cautious rather than sorry. Unfortunately, that didn't save her in the end....
Faye's feet hurt from traversing the forest and she began to worry she might not make it to civilization before nightfall. She decided to stop and at least try to fashion some rudimentary shoes for herself.
It didn't seem too difficult, tie some vines to some bark or leaves and attach them to her feet. How hard could it be?
...
It turned out, it was very hard.
Faye had a new found respect for cobblers. After wrestling with the items she had at her disposal for a few hours, Faye was finally able to travel without hurting her feet. Though, it was almost dark by the time she finished.
Faye hadn't seen a single cart or traveler on the road since she'd begun crafting her shoes. She sighed and decided to climb into a tree for the night. She didn't have any weapons, she had no armor and she didn't have anyway to make a fire. If she were to sleep on the ground she'd be a sitting duck for whatever wanted a midnight snack.
Thanking whoever would listen for the warm summer air, Faye slowly made her way into a tree. She lay against the uncomfortable bark thinking about her plans for the next day.
