Chereads / Faye's fate / Chapter 7 - Surviving

Chapter 7 - Surviving

Faye watched her opponents, waiting. She needed them to make the first move and she needed to be ready as soon as they did. She didn't have to wait long, however. The bugbear in front of her lunged forward with a heavy swing of its club. From her side Faye saw the half goblin coming at her as well, she hurried to dodge in the direction of the goblin, striking hard at the smallest opponent as she did. The goblin tried to avoid the e tip of her spear, but Faye was adept at strength weapons. She was faster than the goblin and stabbed it through its neck. From her side she saw the bugbear's club bearing down.

Not having time to dodge, she chose instead of try to minimize the blow at much as possible. She moved with the clubs trajectory, though it still hurt like a bitch as it slammed against her shoulder.

"Fuck!" Faye cried out at she felt herself almost being thrown to the ground. Though it hurt, she didn't feel anything break on impact, which was good. Pain wracked her as turned back to look at the two opponents left. She ripped the spear from the goblins dying form and aimed toward the other goblin. She chucked the spear forward.

It slashed the half goblins should open, cause a wound to begin bleeding heavily.

As she threw the spear, Faye ducked down, rolling toward the spear that's been left in the ground after being pulled from the bugbears form.

She came back up with a grimace and readied herself for the next attack.

The bugbear didn't waste time. He jumped forward, slamming the club into the ground where Faye was standing. She quickly stepped to the side, barely avoiding the attack. Once again, she gripped her spear and struck forward. This time, the spears tip grazed the bugbears armor, not finding purchase in the flesh beneath.

From behind the bugbear, the half goblin rushed up. He swung his sword widely.

It was simple enough to dodge, though Faye felt the hairs on the back of her neck raise at the prospect of taking a hit from him head on.

The bugbear roared out and swung its club again. This time, Faye was too distracted from dodging his companions attack to avoid the hit completely. It slammed into her stomach. She felt her guts screaming out in pain. The club itself did not have a smooth surface, thorns and nails covered its. It's form was terrifying and it was clear to any that saw the weapon that it was made intentionally to cause pain and damage. Warm blood flowed freely from the wound as Faye found it difficult to continue standing.

Regardless, she steeled herself for the next attack and she too let out a roar as she stabbed toward the half goblin, ignoring the bugbear for the moment.

'Even the odds.' She thought as she attacked.

This time, her hit was clean and heavy. It Pierced deep into the half goblins flesh. The creature cried out and fell forward in pain.

'Just one mor-'

Faye felt pain wrack her form as the club came down on her. This time it slammed into her head, knocking her off her feet and dazing her.

The world seemed to shift to the side and her senses stopped working while she stared out dumbly.

It took a moment for her to realize she was on the ground, her blood flowing freely from her head. Before her she saw the bugbear giving another battle cry before turning towards her to finish her off.

'No....Not again.'

Faye felt anger and indignation fill her as the bugbear approached.

'Damn it....I'm not dying again!'

"Fuck that!" Fayes voice came screaming out as a strange ringing filled her mind. She felt strength refill her as she gripped her spear and stood once more. Her eyes stared out angrily through the blood toward her target. Before the bugbear had a chance to attack, she struck out, giving another clean hit on it. The bugbear before her was wracked with blood and wounds. The first attack she landed was a heavy hit that still bled freely and was quickly sapping her opponent of his life. If not for that first attack, if she hadn't attacked each opponent first....

The big bear cried out in pain and anger as it lunged forward once again. Faye met his battle cry with her own, lunging forward as well, her spear in hand. Her mind was filled with white hot anger as she hurried to meet his attack with her own.

This was it.

She needed to land a heavy blow now or she was done for. Curses rained down in her mind as her spear grew closer and closer to her target.

'Damn it, damn it, damn it, damn it!'

Finally, she and her enemy clashed.

Faye felt the blood of her foe splatter across her face. She felt the warm liquid pour out of the new wound, down her own hands that still gripped her spear.

Her face twisted in a grimace, Faye screamed out again, as she ripped her spear from the bugbears belly. It's club fell first, before the rest of the bugbear followed after, slamming heavily into the ground. Faye stood for a while, staring down at the bugbears corpse, breathing heavily.

Her grip on her spear slowly lessened. Finally, Faye felt her knees buckle as she collapsed. Exhaustion took her over as she stared down at the crumpled and dying bugbear before her.
