It took a while for Faye to gain strength back into her legs. When she was finally able to stand, she did so shakily. Truth be told, that was the first time she had ever fought so hard. It was the first time she ever been pushed to the edge without actually being pushed over.
The emotions she felt during that fight were stronger even then the ones she'd felt while dying.
Her breathing was unsteady, but Faye slowly made her way around the small campsite. She wasn't foolish enough to leave badly needed supplies behind.
She intended to take weapons and armor if it fit well enough. The goblins armor was too small, but it kept a shield. Though, it hadn't grabbed it to fight her earlier due to all the confusion. If it had, the fight might have ended in Faye's defeat.
Most likely...she would have died.
That realization hit Faye hard. Her breath caught as she remembered that neutral hell that was awaiting her when she died. Gritting her teeth, Faye fought back tears burning her eyes. After reviving, everything had felt so surreal. Almost as if she was just dreaming....
But this wasn't a dream. This was real life.
Faye had died to a monstrosity, then revived by the goddess of fate for an unknown reason.
She'd almost died again, which probably wouldn't have resulted in a third chance from the goddess of fate....
Faye gathered the shield and began taking the armor off the half goblin. Although she was without proper clothing, she was unwilling to don the clothes of her dead enemies. They were dirty and stunk worse than shit. She'd rather just keep her flimsy foliage clothing. At least it didn't make her skin crawl.
The armor wasn't much better than the clothes. It seemed to have been poorly taken care of, and dirty and grimy as a result. There was blood dried and stained onto it, as if the original owner hadn't bothered to clean it after engaging in a massacre.
Either way, she needed the extra protection. She figured she'd just try to wash it a bit in a river if she came to one.
Her spears were pretty well spent too, one was unusable as a weapon any further and the other two didn't have more use left in them.
She walked toward the fallen goblin and took hold of its sword. It was a regular short sword, slightly shorter than most, actually. The metal was worn and the sword didn't seem to have much life left in it. Beggars can't be choosers, however. Faye took the scabbard from the goblins belt and attached it to her new armor. She walked over to the half goblin to see its weapon. The half goblin also had a short sword on it. Faye decided to keep both for now. It wasn't much to have a backup sword, especially since both seemed pretty beat up. There were three packs left to go through, one for each opponent. There wasn't much in each pack, a few dried rations, some suspicious looking jerky and water skins. A total of three silver pieces and seventeen copper in the groups money pouches, along with tattered extra blankets. Faye also found a dagger and a couple mess kits. Regardless, Faye decided to keep the best looking pack to carry things in. She kept the coins and the dried rations, though she tossed the jerky. It might have just been bedtime stories told to her as a kid to scare her, but she'd heard goblinoids ate people. Faye wasn't willing to reduce herself to cannibalism just yet.
Slowly, Faye packed her new supplies and began heading out once again. Unfortunately, none of her opponents wore shoes of any sort, so Faye was stuck with trying to make some replacements. Though, her first priority was to put as much distance between her and these dead corpses as possible.
It was bad luck to stay around dead enemy's for too long. Of course that was just a saying. In reality, corpses attracted predators and it wasn't a good idea to hang out around these particular corpses for the simple fact that if they were discovered by their kin, Faye didn't want to become the object of their vengeance. She probably would anyways, but at least this way they don't know who the hell she is.... Before leaving, Faye remembered a custom some of the more senior adventurers did. She walked to the goblin and began to cut its ears from its head. There were bounties on goblinoids in some towns and she badly needed funds. She took the wars from the two goblins and broke the tusks from the hobgoblin. The mutilation cause her to grimace, as although these creatures weren't human, they were human enough in appearance.
Faye was careful as she made her way through the forest. She tried to keep an eye out for any dangers while also keeping a steady pace. Finally, after a couple hours of travel, she felt she'd put enough distance between her and the bodies to stop.
She immediately began trying to fashion herself more shoes. Her pace was hindered quite a bit by her shoeless state. It would help her immensely to have something that could protect her now aching feet. They'd begun to bleed not long before, her new skin on the bottom of her feet was easily marred and injured.
It was time consuming, but Faye was able to wrap her feet to keep them from becoming more injured. She moved forward once again, walking until night fell.
