Faye stood rooted to the ground as various scenarios played out in her mind.
The first was if she ran.
If she ran, the goblin would alert its camp members of the intrusion, she would have a head start, but that didn't mean she'd get away. Her shoes were barely held together right now and they'd almost definitely break in her escape, causing her speed to drop. It was unlikely she'd get away from her pursuers.
The next thought that crossed her mind was sneaking away. If successful, she'd hopefully be off Scott free, or at the very least have a huge head start before they started giving chase.
The third option was to fight. If she fought now, she could catch both the larger forms off guard and then could try to quickly deal with the goblin. Honestly, if it weren't for the goblin sitting up, she probably would have chosen this option. The problem was that when the goblin sat up, Faye saw that it slept in its armor. This wasn't an uncommon practice when out in the wilds traveling. It meant the goblin and probably the others were more prepared to handle an ambush than she hoped.
So, between the three scenarios playing in her mind, Faye chose to try to sneak away.
Slowly, she backed away before the goblin woke fully and was able to sense her nearby.
Whether her luck was bad that day or if that particular goblin was just too aware, Faye didn't know, but as she took her first step, she watched as the goblins eyes met her own.
'Damn it.' Faye thought.
She watched as the goblins already large eyes grew even larger. It cried out to its companions as it reached to its side, attempting to reach the weapon she was sure was there.
Faye gritted her teeth and lunged forward. She rushed through the trees and came upon the camp quickly. One of her shoes broke as she jumped up, toward the largest form. Slowly, she saw a large hairy form rising up, confused at its companions scream. It's ears were long and pointed and Faye could see the muscles from beneath the fur that promised heavy hits. Her eyes were wide from fear as she slammed her spear into the exposed shoulder of the beast.
From the side, she knew the goblin would be coming toward her, she shifted her weight and sent a kick in its direction. Her kick landed, causing the goblin to fall back.
The large form that she'd stabbed her spear into cried out in shock and pain. It's eyes opened wide as it reached for the wooden spear. Faye felt another assailant coming at her from behind.
She released her grip and pulled another spear from her back. Turning, she found the second largest form was standing and heading toward her with a large glaive in hand. The form looked like a cross between a goblin and some other larger race. It was too big to be a goblin, but it looked like one.
Faye gripped her spear and instead of waiting for her opponent to reach her, chucked it forward. The spears she made weren't meant to be thrown, their balance wasn't optimal as a ranged weapon. However, her opponent was relatively close by, which allowed the spear to be thrown.
That, and Faye was really good with javelins.
Faye watched as the spear pierced into the leather armor of the beast. It cried out in pain, confirming the tip was able to reach the flesh beneath.
Faye then felt a meaty hand grip her ankle. Before she could pull away, she felt it twist.
"Ah!" She cried out as the pain wracked her form. Trying to minimize the damage, Faye rolled with the twist. Finding herself grounded by the other beast.
As it bore it teeth angrily at her, Faye lifted her other foot and kicked at the ugly face in front of her.
"Let go you fucking asshole!" She screamed out. The beast released her, attempting to cover its face, then scrambling to its feet. Faye tried to do the same, but the goblin from before rushed in and attempted to slash as her torso. She rolled, narrowly avoiding the hit.
As she rose to her feet, she grabbed her final spear that had fallen out of her sling from before. She watched as the three creatures bore down on her, each grabbing its preferred weapon beforehand.
The three were in front of her, though the goblin and half goblin seemed to be trying to circle around.
These weren't regular goblinoids that were on their first expedition away from the clan. Faye noted the various scars marring the flesh of the large creature before her and the scars on the face of the goblin. These guys were seasoned and experienced.
The only thing that helped Faye was the fact that she was able to get the first attack.
Although her hit against the half goblin wasn't so great, the attack against the big guy was steadily streaming blood. If she were able to give him a few more of those, he'd go down.
Faye cursed as she backed away, careful not to allow the goblin and half goblin to surround her. Her foes seemed weary and unwilling to rush in. They spoke between each other in a language Faye didn't not understand occasionally.
She went through different scenarios in her head. If she were to attack first she'd be at a disadvantage.
She needed them to attack first, but they seemed more than reluctant.
Faye contemplated how to shift this into her favor. Looking at her opponents, the easiest to kill should be the regular goblin. Rather than focusing on one of the big guys, it was more beneficial for her to lower their numbers as soon as possible. The kick she'd landed earlier had done some damage, but if he landed a solid strike with her spear, just a single good hit, the goblin should be out of the fight.
