"What is this place? There's a lot of gear in here. What'd they do, rob a tech shop?" He asked looking around as we stopped in front of a computer.
"No that was me who robbed the tech shop remember... that was a good day i still cant believe I didn't get caught." I said with a smile as they rolled there eyes, people rolling there eyes at me is a regular occurance and so is people ignoring me which really pisses me of
"So this cold blooded killer is gonna help us?" Clary asked
"Techniquely he's protecting us by killing people." I told him
"Specifically you two. Its sort of our thing." Jace said with a look at Simon
"Actually its you and Clarys thing im saving myself for the hot one." I say with a smirk
"You're thing? Your two have a thing?" Simon asked shocked
"He means a shadowhunter thing. That's what they do protecting humans from demons." Clary told him
"I'm sure he meant a shadowhunter thing." I say earning a glare from all three of them
"Demons, right. That makes perfect sense cause there are demons running all around New York." Simon said sarcastically.
"That is the first correct thing you've said all day."
"Won't they find us?" Clary asked looking at the NYPD on the stairs near the front door
"No. Our wards will deter them, and the NYPD will do their typical Mundine thing for a few hours and then the area will be clear."
I turn my head bored by the conversation and see Alec and Izzy walking towards us, i blow Alec a kiss and wink at him, he looks down at the floor and ignores me so i turn and wave at Izzy instead.
"What is going on? Why is there a mundane in the Institute?" He asked Jace not looking in my direction rude i will just have to find a way to attract his attention
Jace sighs "A Circle member followed him to get to Clary and Hayley."
"A Circle rune just like the guys that took my mother, Alec." Clary told him
"What exactly is a Circle member and why are they trying to kill us?" Simon asked confused
"There not trying to kill you Simon there tryna get us two." I say Alec turned his head to look at me i just had to say something logical to get him to look at me... easy
"All we know is... a long time ago the Circle led a revolt. A lot of Shadowhunters got killed... including my father." Jace said his smile faultering
"OhMyGod all these movie quotes and you guys just pretend like there not there your killing me... that was the perfect literally the perfect opportunity to say a long time ago in a galaxy far far away but you didn't use." I say fake fainting and leaning into Alec chest i smirk up at him and he looks down at me.
"Do you take anything seriously." He says moving away from me, out the corner of my eye i see Izzy coughing to try and hide her laughter but it isn't working.
"And since the revolt we've been forbidden to ever hear about the Circle." Alec says completing Jaces sentence
"But how is that even possible? Its your history." Clary said
"Says the girl who didn't know she was a shadowhunter" Jace says scoffing
"Yeah, yeah your right. And know the only person who knows the truth is missing so I don't care about your rules or what's forbidden, im... there's got to be someone out there who can tell us why my mother was taken." Clary says
"And this Simon is the hot one I was telling you about before." I say pointing to Alec "He's the Clint Barton to my Natasha Romanoff ." I tell him smirking up at Alec and grabbing his arm he just gives me a blank "Oh come on have you never sen the Avengers." i look around at them and the three shadowhunters shake there heads "Then you have not lived." I continue still holding Alec arm im surprised he has pushed me off yet "Okay long story short he's an Archer and she's a Spy and they fall in love." I say winking at Alec and kissing him on the cheek where i see a slight blush.
Izzy is grinning at me "I love you Hayley you are my new favourite person." She says as she walks up to me and hugs me.
"Can you two pay attention this is serious." Jace says to us I raise my hands surrendering
"Thank you" He turns back to Clary "There is a way. You coming?" Jace asked us
"Yeah." We say together. Simon starts to follow. When Blondy notices and stops him
"No, no, no not you." Bloody told Simon
"Hey were a package deal." Clary defended
"Yeah." Simon
"There are runes all over the training room floor that would kill your Mundine boyfriend."
'He wishes' I say under my breathe so no one but Izzy can hear me
"He's not my..."
"Im not like..." they say at the same time
"We're uh just friends." Simon said with a sad look, that Clary does notice. I feel sorry for Simon he has always been in love with Clary but she has never felt the same way.
"Best friends." She corrects
"Yeah and im tough i can handle runes. So, uh, bring on the runes." Simon said hitting Jaces arm, "What exactly are runes?"
"They give shadowhunters out demon fighting powers." Izzy's says making the three people in front of us turn around, to see her moving the stele over her arm making the rune glow.
"So hot." Jace clears his throat and i snort at Simons comment. "The rune." He clears his throat nervously, Izzy chuckles
"Don't worry, Clary and Hayley. Ill watch over the best friend. In fact i was about to make breakfast." She told us
"Oh i wasnt worried about his safety I was worried about his dignity." I tell them and Alec laughs that's something he should do more often
Jace takes a deep breath "On second thought the runes might by less lethal."
Izzy smiles, "Ill pretend I didn't hear that, please excuse my brothers lack of manners, this is Alec..." she points towards Alec "and im Isabelle."
"Lewis, Simon, Simon Lewis, two first names, am i still talking?" Simon says nervously, i roll my eyes as Izzy laughs.
"See? Best friend is safe and sound here." Jace told Clary
"Jace, if anything happens to him..." Clary started
"Go on ill be fine. I think." S dog chuckles
"See he's gonna be fine, lets go." I say looking at Clary "I'm bored of this conversation."
"Where are we going?" Clary asks Blondy
"Training room." He says and starts walking he turns around slightly "Hey, uh... don't eat the food. It dangerous." He warns Simon.
"Jace, Hayley coming?" Clary calls out from in front of us
"Yeah were coming." Jace says and we start walking again
When we got to the training room there was another guy in there with blonde hair, he was training a girl who looked a year or two younger than me.
"Who's that?" I ask Blondy
"That's Hodge Starkweather our weapons trainer and more important for us a former Circle member. After the uprising Hodge repented and he was sent to live and work here to make amends, buts he's forbidden to ever leave the Institute." He told us
Hodge turned and looked at us when he heard us talking, he turned around and told the other girl they were done for today. When he sees me and Clary he gasps.
"Jocelyn, Rebecca."
"Uh let me think about that... nope, im Hayley and this is Clary, Rebecca Winters and Jocelyn Fray are our parents." I tell him
"Well they were Rebecca Herondale and Jocelyn Fairchild when i knew them." He exhales "I knew them very well."
"Well my mums been kidnapped... by someone named Valentine and his men." Clary told him
"By the circle Hodge." Jace adds
"But that's impossible. Valentines dead and the Circle died with him." Hodge starts to choke as he says the words and the rune on his neck burns.
"What's happening?" Clary asks panicking
"I swore a vow to never speak of what we did. This is the Claves way of making sure i keep that vow." Hodge said breathing in deeply
""We cant torture him Jace, is there anyone else we can talk to?" Clary asks Jace who shakes his head.
"If the circle really is back... and they've taken Jocelyn... our leader... our leader of the Circle was Valentine Morgenstern..." he winces every couple of words and the rune on his neck keeps burning, but he continues. "We thought he wanted to protect humans, like all shadowhunters, but we never realised the lengths which Valentine was willing to go... the people he was willing to sacrifice." He takes a couple of deep breaths "Most of humanity would die if we carried out Valentines plan."
"But i... i still don't understand. How does my mother relate to any of this?" Clary asked confused
Hodge sighs "Jocelyn was a member of the Circle and so was Rebecca." Clary looks shocked but it doesn't bother me because i already knew this.
"I know." I tell him "My mum told me everything."
"No." Clary starts "I cant believe it, my mother, she..."
"The important thing is the Jocelyn left the Circle." Hodge cut her off with a smile. "And s none of this even matters, because Valentine died in a fire years ago." He groans and starts to fall to the side.
"Hodge, Hodge." Jace says stepping forwards and catching him.
"I'm sorry but i can't ask you to do this." Clary said to the two guys in front of her.
"Clary, we don't have a choice." Jace told her, he sighs and turns to look at Hodge "You understand that Hodge, right?"
"Jace... is right" Hodge says panting "Valentine nearly destroyed the Shadow World and humanity along with it... if he'd gotten the Cup..."
"Wait a minute, my mother told us she hid something from someone." Clary said looking at Jace "if its this cup..."
"Clary, the Mortal Cup is the most important object in the Shadow World." Jace told her "Whoever possesses it can create more shadowhunters."
"And in the wrong hands... control demons." Hodge finishes for Jace. Clary gasps, "If Jocelyn hid the Cup from Valentine, then she's in more danger than you can possibly imagine." The rune burns again and Hodge falls to the fall screaming in pain.
"Hodge!" Jace said making sure he is okay
"I hate to make him suffer like this." Clary says
Panting Hodge looks at us "I'm so sorry, your mother was only trying to protect you, and know you must protect her." Hodge told Clary "Stop Valentine... before he destroys us all."
