Chapter 44 - Arstag, the Land of Chaos

After smooth sailing back to Arstag, Duri, Hyriod, and Marcus landed in Helorion. They had to work fast incase the March already was released. They went door to door trying to convince them to leave Arstag for Graiigreald. None of them listened. They said that they would fight in their homes, not on some foreign shore.

To their dismay, the March had already resurrected its aspects. At the head of the largest army they had ever seen was King Byrion, Lord Jor, Commander Adis, and the aspects from Graiigreald. The people of Helorion were eager to protect their homes. Duri lead the women and children safely to Werinvas while Marcus and Hyriod prepared for battle.

The fighting force was ready, but it was a fraction of the army ahead of them. Word had already been sent to Werinvas, Durvaada, and Castillia explaining what was happening. They had no time to wait for reinforcement- they had to act now. They charged in as the Army of Chaos charged and they clashed, but they were no match. Marcus and Hyriod fought with more strength than anyone in Helorion had ever seen, yet they could not best the likes of Hannibal or King Failer.

"Marcus, you must leave now! You have to warn Duri. I will hold them as long as I can. Pleasure knowing you, friend."

Marcus wanted to stay but knew he couldn't. As he rode away, he saw Hyriod striking down soldiers left to right until he came upon King Failer. He fought until the entire army had passed them, then with a thurst to the heart, he fell. Marcus rode as fast and as hard as he could, making it through the Spired Mountains and into Werinvas in under a day, a fraction of the time it would otherwise take. He gave Duri the news and Duri sent word to Graiigreald to prepare for a mass immigration and mass invasion soon after.

As the Army took over the city, the aspects looked over the bodies. They raised them into their ranks. King Failer stood over Hyriod's body.

"You were quite the fighter. Good soldiers for the March."

When King Failer attempted to raise Hyriod, he couldn't do it. The other aspects tried and failed to do the same. They could not resurrect the Avatar of Bravery.

As Marcus rode, harder and harder, he landed in Werinvas in a day. As he rode in, Duri came out to see him.

"What news of the battle? What happened out there?"

"We were vastly outnumbered. Hyriod was slain, the city fell. They have ten times the amount of people we have, if not more."

"Word was sent to Durvadaa and Castillia. They are coming here. The women and children will sail for Graiigreald. We will fight them."

"How long before they arrive?"

"They should be here within the day."

As Duri finished, the people of Durvadaa and Castillia arrived in Werinvas. The women and children were loaded up and sent across the Sapphire Sea to Graiigreald. Before they continued, Marcus asked Duri if he knew why the March didn't resurrect Hyriod.

"I'm not sure. Either we belong to the March of Peace, or we are something else."

"Yes, you are. Avatars of Bravery, Duty, and Wisdom. You are more mortal than even the people who populate the land. It is your destiny to end this war. You must bring Annihilation."

After that confusing endeavor, Duri and Marcus were left awestruck at the words the gypsy woman gave them. But they knew it to be true. They were more real than anything. Then, an idea sprang in Duri's head.

"If we can survive long enough to bring the Marches together on the field of battle, we may be able to return to the Split."

"What is the Split?" Marcus asked Duri.

"The Split was Michael's sacrifice to end the March of Chaos. He split his soul into three parts. If we can get back to that point, we may be able to end both Marches."

"And how would we end them?"

"We have to die."

Before Duri and Marcus could go back to the Split, they had to face the March of Chaos. With fifty million men at their side, they waited for the March to Arrive. When they came over the horizon, the Army of Arstag charged the March of Chaos. Horses trampling each other, riders falling, bodies piling up. Duri and Marcus faced Lord Jor and King Byrion, and then the their dance began. Duri was able to speak his spirit onto the battefield so he could fight, but neither he nor Marcus could overpower the aspects of the March of Chaos.

"Marcus! Get out of here. I'll hold them for as long as I can. Go, now!"

This time, Marcus didn't hesitate. He left the battlefield, rounding up all who would go with him, sailing for Graiigreald. As the March of Chaos surrounded Duri, he asked Cromwell a simple question: "Why did you stop?"

Afterwards, Duri spoke in an unknown tongue, glowing brighter than the summer sun, before a beacon of light erupted from him. The sky turned dark as the sun dissapeared, the blue light illuminating the entire world. Duri was no more.
