Chapter 7 - A Strange Woman (2)

Crow stayed suspended in the air. Glaring at this so-called 'Mistress Divine'. He had deduced from the words she spoke that she wasn't an enemy, or so it seemed. But he didn't let his guard down. He would rather be suspicious than regret it later on.

He remembered the words of his father in one of their private sessions out back. He said, 'Human nature was a very fickle thing. A man could so easily betray a life-long friend and a woman her children.

'Trust nothing and no one. Always be suspicious of your surrounding and everyone around you. For the only person, you can truly say won't betray you, is yourself.'

These were the laws of this world.

Crow took those words to heart. Though he never went to school with the other kids, his father always gave him private lessons, not just on the basics of calculations and such, but he also thought him about humans and their nature.

In recent years, his father was hardly home, but his father's study had become like his second home, spending most of his time studying there.

Theodore never gave him access to all the books, but he knew he was by far the wisest of them all. If anyone were to survive it would be him. And he had his father to thank for that.

"Boring! Fine. Fine. I'll let you down." The invisible field that seemed to hold Crow up, disappeared as soon as she was done speaking.

Crow dashed for the exit once more, he wouldn't like to stay here a second longer. He had to get away and develop a plan of action before he came here again.

But why was it that he was not moving forward?

"Look, kid. You are going to have to cooperate here. You know the word. Co…ooo…perate? Hmm?" Mistress Divine wanted to continue explaining, but when she saw that Crow wasn't listening, she rubbed her brows in frustration.

Wasn't this kid supposed to be extroverted or something? Why was he so hard to talk to?

"You know my father?" After a moment more of awkward silence, Crow finally saw it fit to say something which caught her completely off guard.

Seeing this as an opportunity to finally talk to Crow, she quickly replied.

"Not per se! I mean you could be a completely different family. After all the Walkers are an incredibly powerful family." She said this but her eyes sparkled with a strange light. She didn't seem to be lying but she definitely wasn't saying the full truth.

"Oh? Are you perhaps forgetting how you called my father by his name? How would you explain that?"

Hearing his query Mistress Divine narrowed her eyes. This kid was too cautious. But she had already thought of an answer. She let go of him as she spoke Crow's body fell to the ground as he rubbed his wrists. It felt like most of the force was concentrated there.

"I have already gone through all your memories and I felt it more appropriate to refer to him as such. Is there a problem?"

Crow glared at her as he answered with the singular word.

"No."

Though he said this he didn't believe her for a second. Scan through 16 years' worth of memories in less than 5 minutes? He would rather doubt it. He had read a lot of theories on data processing, and in his opinion, it wouldn't be possible.

But looking around the ship-like fortress once more, he began to think maybe his information was outdated.

Though such tech was hard-pressed to be found in this new world, many huge clans and or families still used their theories to achieve their goals.

Of course, if someone saw his view of the world they would shake their heads at his naivety. Did he really understand so little? Anything was possible in Kronus, which Crow would soon find out, was the center of their world.

Crow was about to continue with his questions, the tension steadily increasing, but before he could, the rumbling of a great beast resounded shocking Mistress Divine who took a defensive stance immediately. Her eyes pulsated with a deep yellow.

Crow's expression flushed red. It seemed that his questioning would have to wait. Why now of all times? Seeing this, Mistress Divine let out a little chuckle. Who would think that such an adorable kid, could invoke the heavens?

"Would you like to eat first?"

Crow's expression darkened, but he dared not refuse. Sure he knew how to hunt but that didn't mean he was any good at it. He remembered how his father had put him on a fishing boat and let him out to sea. Let's just say that starvation was always an option when fishing.

"Yes…please…"

He had to remember to train so he could better suppress his hunger. He would remember this!

"Mistress Divine!" Crow almost let out a moan as he ate, "Who knew you were such a good cook? You should have told me this sooner, otherwise, why would I look at you like a vengeful spirit?" Crow rubbed his tummy in satisfaction.

He was enjoying this meal. It was true when they said, 'Don't judge a book by its cover.' Who knew such a small woman could make such a big and tasty meal?

Meanwhile Mistress Divine stood at the side, her eyes twitching. She really couldn't contain her… shock? Where had the food gone? She was unsure if he had really eaten it all. That was enough food for a family of four to eat and be filled. So why did it seem like that was a lie?

"Now that I think of it, would Hound meat taste good?" Crow thought back to the Hound he had killed.

He still had no idea what the true name of that creature was, so he dubbed it 'Hound.' He wasn't really asking anyone, he just happened to speak aloud

Mistress Divine narrowed her eyes. What did he mean?

"Hound?

Crow seemed to be really loosed-lipped while he eat, so she didn't mind asking a little more. She pressed the matter.

"Yeah, I was attacked by a…" He then went on to explain what had happened. He also explained why he had arrived at the name hound.

'How did he manage to kill a Tier 1 Blood Hound?' She looked at him again but this time her eyes glowed with a mysterious light that seemed different from their usual yellow glow.

Immediately a field of silver appeared, forming a sphere around Crow's being. It created a sort of veil that seemed to hide him entirely, and yet Crow continued to eat on happily acting as if he didn't notice.

'No cultivation whatsoever! It would seem like you are the strange one of the two of us, Crow Walker.'

Mistress Divine spent some time thinking a little more. She seemed to be greatly disturbed.

'How did you get here, Son of…' Her last thoughts seemed to be blurred out as she fell into deep thought.

Crow continued to eat. Rubbing his belly in satisfaction.

[Author's Note: Merry Christmas to you all. Hope you had fun, had good meals, and most importantly, spent time with your family. Not many like Crow here will have the opportunity to do this for a while, but those that do, make sure you take it. Happy Holidays.]
