I was totally iced out i couldn't feel my hands i barely grabbed hold of my phone and made my way out of the office into the lounge area and shut the door tight my hands kept trembling as i searched for Jinyoung's number. I finally found it and dialed, i seriously felt like my heart would go anytime i heard the phone ring and he didn't pick up after three rings. on the fourth ring, the phone stopped ringing abruptly and i knew he had answered i tried to talk but the words couldn't come out i didn't know where to start ,or what to say. At that moment i heard his voice from the other side of the phone. Kyrah are you okay?. okay?, i was speechless of course I'm not ok i said in a weak tone you should've told me you were engaged at least then, then i wouldn't have..... i didn't know i was engaged, what do you mean you didn't know you were engaged. really Kyrah he said more desperately my dad had it all planned out with Chairman Jang without letting me know i really didn't know so what am i supposed to do now what am i supposed to say i asked him as i broke into tears calm down Kyrah, i can handle this trust me.
"i'll hang up then let's have dinner later i'll pick you up."
throughout the rest of my workhours i couldn't wait to see Jinyoung and talk to him in person i just wanted answers. Yes it was his parent's decision but i wanted to know how he felt, what he wanted. As soon as it was 6pm i grabbed my bag said goodbye to everyone and was on my way Jinyoung had texted me the location it was really close to my office just a stone throw. In time i arrived at the restaurant it was a chinese restaurant as soon as i walked through the door i was directed by a waiter to a private room and there Jinyoung was already waiting. He looked even more emotionally disturbed than i was i sat down with my head facing the ground i couldn't look up i felt low like i had been stepped on. suddenly Jinyoung said in a low tone of voice.
"Kyrah i've decided to take you to my parents"
After hearing those words from Jinyoung Kyrah's face lit up it meant he was really serious about her and he wanted to break his engagement but was i really ready to go see his parents? i asked my self countless times do i really have to go? wouldn't that be too much pressure on him? Jinyoung was in disbelief that i was hesitating so much. He said, that's the only way i can break off my engagement with Mi Rae .
he got off from his chair walked over to my side and jolted me up his palms held my shoulders as he looked me in the eye and said you're a proud project development manager in your company so not even my parents can look down on you, even i am so proud of how far you've come Kyrah. I was the only one who knew that was a far cry from who i really was but in this moment, no every moment spent with him, i wanted to be greedy for once in my life. he moved closer and whispered in my ear's let's go get you some clothes i want you looking fabulous when we meet my parent's. Won't it come as a surprise if we go see them suddenly i asked him in a stutter no it won't i already told them clearly that i'm not marrying Mi Rae because i love someone else and it's you so cheer up and let's go get you some clothes we both walked outside and got into the car i was so nervous that i just kept fidgeting until we got to the store. well when we got there i felt more relaxed the place was beautiful it felt like it was opened up just for me from the moment i stepped my foot through the glass doors i was directed to a room full of beautiful dresses there were no customers there just me. I hadn't been given this sort of special treatment ever before i didn't even know what to pick out i jhust kep on staring till Jinyoung walked into the room sudenly holding a red knee length silk dress with lace on each side of the waist which exposed little skin and he told me to try it on. i went into the changing room and put it on. looking at myself in the mirror, i couldn't believe that was me i looked so different i actually looked good i came out of the changing room and with no hesitation in his voice he said we'll take this ring it up and handed in he's card at the counter.
Though i was all dressed up i was still so nervous about him taking me to his house i didn't know what to expect so of course it felt like going to the jungle blindfolded but i still wanted to if it meant we could be together he noticed my hands shaking in the car as we drove to his parent's house he held my hands tightly we're almost there hearing those words immediately increased my heart rate i don't think i've ever been this nervous i hoped things work out well.
approaching i could see a very big house the kind which i'd always dreamed of while growing up. In all my twenty five(25) years of life i hadn't seen anything like it. it was secluded among trees it had turret's, gables, dormers, balconies, a screened in front porch, a free standing garage, a car garage, a gazebo, a pool, a formal garden, everything anyone would dream of it was a sturdy three story building designed to perfection.
As we walked in i was immediately met by a spacious and state of the art living room with polished wood floors and a beautiful high arced window velvet drapes framed the windows and the lace inner curtains remained drawn allowing sunlight to reflect just at the right timing.
I was about to look out the window when a woman caught my eye she was holding a glass of water dressed too formal to be at home she had a slight angular build and kind eye's that made her angular features seem rounder she glanced over and i turned to greet her i made a 360 degree bow with my forehead almost touching my knees. Even i thought i went overboard with the greeting. sit she said, in a somewhat alluring tone of voice it was the first time i was seeing Mrs Woo in person but i felt like i'd met her before. Jinyoung who's this? your friend? she asked with a confused look on her face. no she's my girlfriend Jinyoung said without a hinge of hesitation.
A sudden silence hit the room at this point i knew things were not going to go well .leave before your dad get's home. Mrs Woo said with a nonchallant voice. Hearing that, i just wanted to get out of there as fast as possible i knew i was going to be humiliated i didn't want that i grabbed my purse and tried to get up but Jinyoung held my hand pulling me back down. He got up and at this moment i knew he was really mad he said to Mrs Woo while shouting at the top of his voice "why should we leave? why mum, Mrs Woo had a crazy way of saying the meanest things in a calm voice. She's your plaything, why did you have to bring her here? hearing those words my heart sank i was getting out of this house no matter what i tried to undo Jinyoung's grip with my hand but my power wasn't enough he looked at me with a sorry look in his eye's and said mum what's wrong with Kyrah? she's a product development manager at her company and she's doing well for herself mum you have no right to look down on her Mrs Woo burst out in laughter something was not right about that laugh i felt unsettled. Manager, her? that wasn't what the private investigator told me.
My legs gave way i couldn't stand properly any more. the bomb had been dropped there was no going back. Private investigator? Jinyoung asked in disbelief mum you hired a private investigator to run a background check on Kyrah? you're unbelievable mum. what's even more unbelievable so is that your girlfriend here is not a manager in her company she's not even an assistant just an office errand girl there was no forgetting those words from Mrs Woo as Jinyoung turned to me
