Chapter 17 - Chapter 17

Jade's pov

My eyes flicked open swinging them to the first person who caught my sight. He was a blur at first, sharpening as my vision focused on him.

"A-agustine?" There it was again, the nervous flutter of my chest, becoming aware of him.

He smiled warmly and showed me a concerned expression. "You passed out in the hallway, Jade."

My cheeks heated as I let myself soak into his warm smile. "I'm sorry you have to see all that." I whispered.

"You were a mess back there, you're pretty sick." He leaned over and lifted his hand to my forehead feeling for a temperature. Each second, he lingered his touch on my skin, the more nervous I became. I can't stand that I get so nervous around him, that he has this effect on me.

After a moment, he leaned back. Augustine made no mention of my temperature. Probably because I was not sick, it's stress that's corrupting me and it was him who's the cause of all of this.

"I had to bring you here at the clinic after you passed out."

I was tempted to ask if he had carried me here.

"I carried you in my arms."

I almost fell off the bed when he said that. I stared at him, eyes widening, wondering how on earth had he just read my mind.

"I figured you'd be wondering how'd you got here." He added quickly, coolly, as if prompted to explain himself right away.

I tried not to give him a suspicious look, but I think, he read into me anyway.

"Oh, I see." And shifted around uncomfortably, feeling the itch of wanting to go home. "How long had I been here?"

"Not that long, half an hour. You must've have been exhausted, you were sleeping so I didn't bother to wake you up."

Augustine got up reaching for the blanked and pressed it neatly over my chest.

"Y-you don't have to do that." I said as I propped myself up. The sudden movement made the room spin, and made my stomach churn, feeling that bile climb up my chest all over again. "I'm about to throw up."

"You're sick, you need to go home."

Quick and heavy strides entered the clinic. I recognized that gait. The curtains drew open and it was James who came to visit me. "Jade, all you alright? I heard you were sick."

He stopped distracted as soon as he noticed Augustine in the room with me alone.

Augustine and I craned our heads up to him. I looked at him dizzily while Augustine wore an unreadable expression.

"What the heck is this jock doing here?" James remarked rudely.

"I brought her here after she passed out in the hallway." Answered Augustine.

James snorted. "Oh yeah? Well, you can go."

My face twisted into a scowl. "Don't be rude, James. He helped me."
