Augustine's pov
No, I've taken too much time and wasted most of it. I have a feeling Celena was right, I've slacked off and now I'm about to pay the consequences.
Darkness crept up slowly covering the alley in the middle of the afternoon. The bright sunlight dim and heavy and I knew right then we are not alone.
Something slipped by me. I had been far too distracted and careless that I let this happen.
Whatever it is, it's not human. Not with the heavy negative energy it's giving out.
"I know you're here." I managed. My eyes darting to the darkest pool of shadow on the corner.
He had hidden himself well, he suppressed the tinge of his darkness that even I could not notice. He's not ordinary. This demon has skills to match an angel of my level.
I need take every precaution.
"About time, didn't think you were ever going to notice. You seem too busy with your human pet you forgot there were others around you."
The shadow stepped off from its hiding and revealed itself. It took a form of a human materializing into a man. He wore a coat, jeans and leather shoes.
He wore a borrowed face. Dark hair, cool mint eyes and thin lips. A handsome face of an Asian man meant to lure an unsuspecting female victims. Jesus Christ, even I think he's handsome.
"What sent you over here?" I inquired.
"That..." He said with a purse of his lips, he smiled. "The girl, what else would I come here for?"
"You cannot have her." I said through gritted teeth.
"Oh, but I have been watching you. You silly angel couldn't even do his job right. Too preoccupied, too enchanted, too out of it that you'd forgotten there's others like us out here. You make my hunt easy for me, Augustine."
His twisted smile stretched into a low guttural laugh. "Give her to me!"
"She's not your prey she's mine!"
"Oh yeah? If that's the case, you shouldn't play with your kill. That would be evil." His laughter continue. "And here I thought I'm the evil one."
My protectiveness awakened stepping in front of Jade. For a moment I thought about releasing my wings but held off in case of witnesses. It's not ideal while in human form. I'll attract witnesses causing more headaches and more minds to erase.
"What's going on?" Jade asked behind and I have assumed she cannot see the demon with us. Can she even tell the change in the alley? "What's going on?" She asked.
Odd.
"Nothing to be concerned about. I just need to get you out of here." I told her.
"Oh, but that's what I was about to do." Said the demon. "I was about to take her from you."
