It was a sunny day, the birds sang, the leaves brimmed with excellence, and beasts trampled upon humans, yes, a very ordinary day. Ray was at home taking a bowl of cup noodles and ignoring the outside world. This brief moment of peace in his life came to an end when the System abruptly issued a mission.
"Mission: Hunt 100 F-Rank evolved beasts.
Reward: Magic AI program
Time Limit: 2 days after receiving the mission."
"Eh, a mission?"
He tried asking the non-mechanical version of his system some questions, but even that didn't work. Over days of study, he learned that the system would not converse with him when it had immediate stuff to do. This stuff could range from issuing a mission or giving rewards. Other than that, it was a massive chatterbox.
"Sigh, I don't really want to leave home. This is gonna be a problem."
Ray was particularly lazy and a coward. Since it was a magic system, there was probably some sort of magic that would allow him to operate without leaving home. Ray searched his memory for any sort of magic that would allow him to operate from home.
"Hmm, there's Sympathetic Magic, Technological Magic, Void Magic, Chaos Magic. Hmm, Sympathetic Magic needs a multitude of ingredients and a minimum degree of craftsmanship which I lack. Chaos Magic and Void Magic are rare. The only possible option now is technological magic, which just so happens to be my forte."
Ray was lucky too, in the Newbie Red Envelope he got, the first level of Technological Magic just happened to be there, and besides, some of his innate skills were based on Technological Magic and Digital Magic, so the chances of him mastering this kind of magic were already high.
"Hehe"
Ray chuckled and swiftly opened his laptop, it was fairly ordinary... for now.
"Technological Magic- Nanosensors activation!"
Bright blue magic circles formed at the tip of his fingers and gave rise to tiny specks of blue light that floated into the laptop.
"This system is too cool, all that shit in the world before that spoke about working from home, hehe to think it could evolve to this extent in this new world taken over by all sorts of powers and magic."
Ray also connected the sensors to his phone and last but not least the drones that the system provided him as part of the first level technological magic reward.
Ray was in a rush to finish the mission and get back to resting so he immediately opened up the program connected to the drones from his laptop.
"Activate!"
Ray clicked the activate button with a mouse and watched as the two spherical drones float in front of him. The drones shone with a blue light upon activation and hummed dangerously.
"Okay, what are the controls for these things.
Up arrow key for forward
Down arrow key for backward
Right arrow key for up
Left arrow key for down
Enter for attack
Space key for defense
Shift+a for accelerate
And the Escape key for return. Hmm, seems easy enough,"
Ray memorized the controls for operating the drones through his computer and tested it out for a while.
Drone A: Stats
HP: 20/20
ATK: 15
DEF: 10
The two drones had mirrored stats, so ther was no need to take a look at the other one.
"Hmm, how to turn on the cameras on the drones... Oh, there it is!"
And that was how the last string needed was cut, the drones were officially ready for battle. Ray opened his window and let them out.
"Okay, let's see, the vision of the drones are very complex and they can see miles away from my current location, lemme see if they manage to find F-Rank beasts en masse."
Before Ray could say another word, the eye of a massive beast peered through the drone's camera.
"Hmph, lowlife, I am an experienced gamer, how can I be scared by the likes of you."
Ray pressed the down arrow key harshly ad backed away from the monster to reveal its full frame. It towered over seven feet tall although it was only an F-ranked monster. The beast had a mane full of white fur and eyes that glowed with a green light.
To think rats have evolved to such an extent. This radical change was unbelievable, Ray almost fell over from his seat. These were the worst slums in the USA, rats were already massive in this area, but this was just taking it too far. Ray cursed the Dark Aristocrat in his mind and focused on the task at hand.
'I am an experienced keyboard warrior, who can stop me!'
Ray exclaimed in his mind and spammed the enter key. The drones whirred and spasmed. The blue glow on them grew brighter too.
"Bam!"
The blue light on the drones energy core flew out and hit the rat.
"Splash!"
The rat that was attacking the drones before exploded into blood and gore.
"Well, shit!"
Ray exclaimed in shock for a few seconds and finally realized how much fun this was to be.
. . .
"And, bam! That is the 85th one."
Ray exclaimed after wiping out his 85th monster. After the first thirty monsters, Ray figured out a nice tactic that could maximize the number of monsters killed. The first step was to send Drone 2 out and let it scout the area, then use Drone 1 to attack the monsters found in the area.
"Boom eighty six, eighty seven, eighty eight, eighty nine, ninety, ninety one, ninety two..."
One by one Ray eliminated monsters, and with each monster he eliminated, the better his skills using the drones progressed, and then just towards the end of the mission, he encountered the biggest F-Ranked monster yet, in the form of a gigantic mosquito.
"Ding. Eliminate BOSS-level F-ranked monster to complete mission!"
The system's cold male voice rang in his head.
"Oh wow, this is gonna be fun!"
