Tracy
As I asked Quinn the question, I could see the hurt in his eyes. If mates were so important to one another, then why do I see so much sadness reflecting in Quinn's eyes? And why is Emily so against him? Nothing is making sense here.
"Yes, Emily is my mate and although she hasn't rejected me, she also hasn't accepted our bond yet," Quinn said in a flat tone.
"I do not mean to pry, Quinn, but I don't understand anything. Why hasn't she accepted the bond? I was just told that mates were meant to be and that they were soulmates and no other person could compare to him or her, to my understanding. So why not accept it?" I just couldn't wrap my head around all this, it was really just fucking confusing.
"Emily is your friend, it's best you ask her. But Tracy, finding your mate is truly a blessing. Please just give Alec a chance, he's not as bad as he seems," after that he turned around and left.
I decided to go back inside and try to learn more about this mate thing. I know I feel a pull towards Alec, something I couldn't explain until now. When I got to the table where Alec and Emily were seated, they both looked at me worriedly.
What if I stay here and Rian find's me, what will happen then? I don't know Alec and to stay and get into a relationship just because he is my mate is kind of absurd. I needed to talk with Emily in private, she always knows what to do.
"Em, can I speak to you in private, please?" I looked at her pleadingly.
"Sure dear, Alec, please excuse us, you know where to find us." As she stood up she gave Alec a pointed look and Alec looked at me before nodding his head.
Emily took my arm as we walked out of the pub. It looked like she knew this town well, so I just followed her until we came to a stop at a small house. I turned my head towards her to ask her where we were but she shook her head and took out a key from her purse. She opened the front door and motioned for me to go inside. It was small but beautiful.
I could see that this was Emily's house. The purple, white and black furniture that matched the walls and curtains was definitely Emily's style.
"Welcome to my "lifetime ago" home, let me show you around. There are two rooms, unfortunately just one bathroom, the kitchen and lounge. It's small, but it was once my getaway," Emily said and took me through her house.
It was really small but comfortable. She showed me my room where I would stay until I made my decision on what to do. After I felt settled in, I went to find Emily where she was busy in the small kitchen preparing dinner. It smelled delicious.
"Em, you said Alec was my mate, and although I feel a pull towards him, how do you know? How do you know it's not just physical attraction? Could you please tell me more about this?"
Emily eyed me and then opened the oven to put whatever she was preparing inside. She then turned to me and I could see the same sadness in her eyes that I saw with Quinn earlier.
"For a supernatural, you know immediately when you find your mate. You smell them, they smell heavenly, and your souls reach out to each other. You feel like you have known this person your whole life even though you might have just met. Your souls just know."
She stood up and poured wine into two glasses, she came back sitting down, handing me a glass.
"Em, if it's so Amazing, why did you not accept Quinn yet? I asked him but he wouldn't tell me." Emily took a sip of her wine and looked me straight in the eyes.
"I was twenty four when I came to The Valley for the first time, Alec's father was having trouble with some witches and called upon my grandmama to resolve the issue as some of the witches were part of our coven and the issue was with Alec and the witches. I felt him when we crossed the border of The Valley. When we arrived at the pub I saw him, and at that time he turned around and looked at me, it was like we couldn't look away. We met and danced and talked, it was like nothing I had ever experienced. As the night came to an end, he told me something that broke my heart. He had made a girl pregnant and he felt like he couldn't leave her after that. I had to respect that. I bought this little house to be closer to him just to dull the ache in my heart. It turned out that it was more torturing to be near him but not be with him than anything else, so after four years I packed my bags and left. That's when I found a newspaper and saw the ad that you needed a housekeeper. In the four years I have spent torturing myself and Quinn, I learned to feel hate towards him. Four months after I left, rouges attacked the Valley. The girl died in the attack but Quinn could save his little baby girl, and that's the story."
My heart ached for Emily and Quinn. Maybe, just maybe, with a few little ropes pulled, I could get them back together again. I was about to ask her what rouges were and why she didn't come back after the attack but a knock on the door interrupted me. I stood up and when I opened the door, Alec and Quinn was standing there with sheepish smiles on their faces.
