"I'm sorry Miss Constance, we did all we could but she had already lost a lot of blood. I'm sorry but we couldn't save her"
The noisy emergency hallway suddenly became silent as the doctor's word slowly registered to the pity state of the woman in front of him.
She had golden skin that were drenched in bruises and blood, long dark brown hair so drenched it looked like a ragged rat. Her eyes the once bright chocolate brown were sullen and had lost their spark, those said eyes lost their sight of the doctor instantly his red lips were moving as blurry images slowly became visible taking the woman back to those memorizing green eyes that locked with hers in pain and despair, that final smile she gave, the one that normally gave her courage was frozen on her beautiful face as she took her last breath.
"Luckily, she conceived a healthy baby girl. Are you a family member? or is there any around to take her and sign the morgage papers"
Family member?
She was her only family just as she was. They both came from different background but They still had their bond that made them sisters. Their family was a circle of strength, founded on faith, joined in love, the only rock Rose knew that stays steady, the only institution she know that works, was their family. Now she was gone, and left behind an innocent child.
"No, there is no one, it's just her..... it has always been just her"
She rested her back on the wall, shakily crying more mournfully. She was in pain for the only friend she had lost, and traumatized by the truth behind it.
Passing by felt pity for her.
"And the father?"
Her whole body tensed up, Eyes blazing with strong intense fury. She didn't need to answer the doctor, he saw it as clear as day on her face the burning anger she had for the so called bastard. He was the reason why she was laying in there cold to the world, he was the reason why she lost everything.
"I will get the orphanage papers ready."
The orphanage home?
So just like that a helpless child was brought to this world just to be tossed to the world of pain and sufferings.
She had heard enough to know what goes on, she was the only one left who knew the truth and heavens knew she would be filled with guilt if she abandon Rachael's last words.
(Rose, please protect my child, love it as yours. Please help me)
Her eyes were clenched tightly as a sob choke out of her. Those words boosted her calm.
"There is no need, Doctor. Can I see the child?"
"Of course Miss Constance right this way".
They both went into the room right beside them. Rose's heart was in a tumor, she suddenly wasn't sure she was to react.
'What is she looks like him?'
Those silly thoughts swamped her head making her dizzy and absent minded. By the time she got her senses back, the doctor had already left and her signs was locked on a small figure inside the incubator moving her body about.
Green eyes, red hair, fair skin.
She was beautiful, so beautiful Rose shredded more tears at the similarities she had with her mother.
Rachael Mo had always been a drop gorgeous model with her slender body and appealing charisma, Rose always felt proud standing next to her. She was lovable, wild and very social the opposite of Rose Constance, her only mistake in this life was falling for Daniel Yang.
The sharp ringing of a mobile phone broke whatever trance between the living and the dead hasting Rose to dug it out of her pocket and cried silently at the caller.
"Mom!!!"
There was silence on the other line as she sobbed her heart out silently.
"Mama! Rachael is gone, she left me - she left me and..... and..... mama it hurts"
For the first time in many years Rose cried like a child because at that moment she needed her mother, She needed her to tell her this was all a bad dream or that everything was going to be alright.
The last time she cried was during her grandfather's burial and silently to herself when she ran away from home. All these happened in one day.
Though she was far from home, she still kept in touch with her dearest mother whom was always informed of the happenings in her life to keep her at ease.
"What about the baby?"
"She's beautiful mama, she's looks just like Rachael"
She cried the more blabbing nonsense while her mother consoled her with her words before requesting her worries. Only her mother knew how badly she coped with loss, her grandfather's death was a pure example.
"I need you to come home Rose, are any of Rachael's family there? Let them take the child and you come home"
Rose shooked her head continuously at what her mother was actually requesting, she knew she could bring herself to do it.
"No, no, I told you that Rachael's family is complicated and they already chased her out after she got pregnant. She only had me, mom"
There was a determined sigh heard.
"The father?"
Rose almost growled out loud just the thought of the said father.
"He has to pay mom. He's's the reason why Rachael is dead mama, she went to see him last night even though I told her not to and -and now she's gone."
Rose knew whose fault it was but her mother chided her instead of listening.
"Hush! Do not assume things and don't you dare blame yourself."
Too late for that.
Her mother was like a decorative flower vase unable to stand on her own, it was reason where her father was able to control her.
"Come home Rose."
Rose smiled at the same time let out a bitter sob before gathering the courage to smile weakly at nothing in particular but the memory that was still repeating itself. Both the past of her childhood and that of the times with Rachael Mo.
"I made a promise Mama."
Rose heard her mother suck in a deep breath, as though she expected her stubborn reply, she could almost see her brows rise as she bite her lips in worry.
"You have made a lot of promises, my child"
Rose eyes flashed with a mixture of her hidden emotion, pain, sorrow, anger and longing.
"I never made a promise to those people".
"But you made one to your grandfather"
Rose tensed up.
"Grandfather once said, only those capable should make profitable promises. Revenge is best served cold"
Her mother, Viviana Constance has always wanted her daughter to stand on her own right from the moment she was born and declared the first female child, she was the voice that always encourage her child in the background, she was successful in making her more freewill from her authoritarian father.
She was the only supporting family left standing in her complicated family background, a story for next time, a past Rose still runs from.
For once one has tasted the forbidden fruit, it becomes harder to let go.
"Your father will never approve, Drogo will only use this as an advantage"
When had he actually approve of any decision Rose ever wanted, it was her grandfather who always made the decision and whom she always seeked and besides, she was still fighting this feud all on her own.
The said man lost every right to identify her as his daughter the moment he chose power over family. In her eyes he was just a sperm- doner
"I know, mama"
She knew.... No, they both knew she was doing the right thing, even though she couldn't do anything in her past, she could do something for her present.
Her heart and soul screamed yes, her determination was ironed and certain.
"It won't be easy....."
Her mother paused for a minute giving off an intense music allure before continuing.
"But I understand."
That one word was all she needed.
The call ended with a beep, Rose's tears had long since dried and in replace her brow clenched hard and her eyes blazed with intensity.
She went out the room straight to the doctor's office a whole different person.
"Doctor, we need to talk."
