Chapter 4 - PAST 2

"Big brother Ruben!!!!! , big brother Ruben, I'm coming!!!!!!!"

From a distance the loud cries of a little child rang through the field drawing few attention towards her direction especially that of an outstanding young 13 years old boy.

Dark brown hair with pale blue eyes, dressed in riding gear glared pass the glaring sun that made his light skin a bit tan, he was the young Lord Ruben Constance, the eldest grandson of Lord Gavin Constance.

Their location was the Kingwest auditorium where the yearly sport competition would be held, a common activity every socialite in Yeaster town look forward to this activity.

There was horse riding, takwendo, fencing, football, ballet, Hockey, Race etc, other family event also took place but what the audience hoped to see what which champion would win the prizes, even neighborhood town were in attendance bringing in their best in hopes to beat Yeaster Town that was known for having the best talents.

Winning gold was nothing to Yeaster town, it was keeping the honour it stood for.

Back then during the civil war, Yeaster town was what founded the army, it was from this little town legends were born, even as time flew with technology it still founded legends.

Beside lord Ruben were three other young boys with outstanding features from distinguished households who also stared ahead of the little bunny that got closer.

One of the boys who had dark hair and green eyes questioned skeptically, he along with the rest of his friends where unsure if the little girl was indeed calling out for him.

"Hey Ruben!, who's the little girl heading here?"

"She's cute man"

Ruben glared at the red haired who made the last comment.

"She's my little cousin, Rosaline"

Ruben made it a clear emphasize that his sisters where off limit to the mischievous display of his friends who were popularly known as rascals while the boy were immediately displeased that another member of Ruben family was here to bug them, is younger sister was an example of their dislike.

"Huff! huff! big--- big brother Ruben I bro- brought the tools"

At last she stopped in front of the group huffing and puffing to catch her breath, her face pale and damp with sweat huffing with her apple sauce cheeks. She didn't bother to acknowledge the other presence knowing her cousin had stated out rules for her to follow.

"Catch your breath Rosaline, it's disturbing"

Ruben's comment had Rosaline pausing to fix him a mean look.

The boys were shocked by her change of reaction, They watched her adorable face glare at her oldest cousin.

"I had to run straight from the highway because of the traffic which was over a 100kilometer long and it wouldn't have happened if you hadn't forgotten it in the first place"

The three boys had their mouth opened contemplating how the little 6/7 years old little girl could run that long distance, something no girl could do. Their gaze then moved to Ruben watching his reaction to her witty comeback.

Ruben stared blankly at his cousin, a look similar to their grandfather except his were more warm and expressive.

"You want to learn from the best, right?"

Rosaline changed her attitude immediately looking calm and gentle.

"Yes, yes, of course big brother Ruben"

The three friend took in a deep breath simultaneously at the huge revelation.

"Hold up, hold up!!, your little cousin is your apprentice?"

A boy with dark hair among their group questioned in shock. He stared down at the little girl in front of them then his friend wondering along with his other friends if they heard right

"Yes"

Came Ruben's short answer not bothering to explain. He made an hand gesture with his hand towards the girl and each of his friends.

"Rosaline. Berk, Collins and Theo"

"Pleased to meet you"

She bowed in a gentle manner that had the boys blinking back at her adorableness.

"Oh my what a cute little thing you are!"

the red haired exclaimed happily, squatting down a bit to pat her hair.

Rosaline felt a vein throb on her forehead, she had an instant urge to kick the young boy away but her oldest cousin watchful eyes stopped her.

"Ruben, you little sister is so cute. Hey call me big brother Berk, we are all your big brother"

"Speak for yourself, idiot"

The same boy with dark hair snapped back.

"Thank you big brother Berk"

Rosaline replied pleasantly then threw her cousin a look.

Ruben knew the characters of his little cousin especially how thin her patience were.

"Lets go"

He led the group ahead to the starting hall to get up for the competition.

Ruben's first challenge was horse riding and Rosaline's job as an apprentise was to ensure his horse was well fed and in the best condition, along the straps were well tight. After the race which he obviously won, she had to brush the horse and provide it with food and water.

Other participators were surprised by the little girl's diligent but said nothing and took it as an act of bully or punishment.

Before long towards the late afternoon Ruben was preparing for his second challenge, the famous game called The gladiator.

It was where an opponent would ride upon an horse dress in armour with a long wooden spear, he would occupy either of the sides he prefers the race toward the opposite opponent dressed and geared similarly. Their sum is to hit vital points of their opponent's armour or helmet or if lucky knock the opponent off the horse three times which was an instant win.

Rosaline was walking behind her cousin and the red haired, Berk towards the entrance where they noticed a dark hair lad with dark eyes dressed in fencing gears being attended to by a medic.

Rosaline was surprised to see the boy being treated.

"Brother John!!!"

The Constance children might be strangers to one another but cared to a degree because of the blood they shared. They show their kindness to a degree that was nothing but forced blood privilege.

Ruben also too notice of the boy and was immediately disappointed, he knew the level of John so he was dissatisfied to see him hurt.

John also took notice of their group coming towards him and felt instantly pressured.

"Brother Ruben, Lord Berk"

He greeted the boys and ignored the wondering eyes of his other cousin.

Rosaline was still too young to hide her emotions so her concern was freely shown in her face which made him feel more uncomfortable.

"Brother John, you are hurt?".

John felt annoyed by her question and choose not to answer but Ruben asked.

"What happened?"

John could already feel the burning gaze of his older cousin, he dared not raise his head to look at his eyes.

It was how he was different from Rosaline, where She dared look back with equal challenge the others look away.

"My opponent was a tough one, we had a tie 2 - 2 and it seems I hurt my arm badly"

"Is he that good?"

"He's from the neighborhood town from Wesley high. they say he's the best amongst them, a rising captain"

Ruben was certainly not impressed by the opponents fame because John was already the captain of their team and had an outstanding level amongst his peers. He was the best at Fencing and they knew it.

"So you lost then"

John felt weak, he gritted his teeth while stammering. He alone knew what Ruben was implying, he knew he had disappointed himself alone if not brought a disgrace to the Constance Family.

"It.... I didn't exactly loose brother Ruben, it... it's just a tie"

"It shouldn't have been if you were well prepared"

He could only clench his teeth and bow his head lowly in apology.

"I'm sorry brother Ruben"

Ruben turned his face away from him letting out a sigh.

"You indeed should be disappointed"

He walked away followed by Berk and reluctantly Rosaline.

The children of Constance didn't have a very close relationship with one another, they behave like stranger both i!side and outside their homes except for Ruben whom Rosaline took upon herself to become close to a year ago in order to reach her aim.

It was during that year after knocking into her grandfather in the hallway and talking back at him for the first time. Lord Goran did keep an eye on her by allowing her access to join the other children in the cottage, but instead of taking etiquette lessons with the other grand daughters she snuck out to watch the grandsons fence with one another. Ruben was the oldest from Lord Goran's first son, lord Fredrick followed by John from Lady Jules, second child of Lord Goran.

Lord Goran Constance had four children namely from the oldest , Frederick, Jules, Henry and Neveline. Lord Frederick was the Major general of the Army, he married Miss Helen Storm, a military scientist and had Ruben, who was 13yrs and Daisy 11yrs.

Lady Jules married a rich chancellor named Sir Thomas Hathaway and had John who was 12yrs, Lucinda and Judith, 10yrs.

Lord Henry who was Rosaline's father had her and her brother Harry, who was just 4yrs.

And lastly Lady Neveline was yet to marry, she had an important title in the Mansion as the Governess of Nordorway Mansion.

Each children were best know for their talents, Ruben was excellent at horse riding and gladiator, while John was best at fencing and hockey, the girls weren't best at anything apart from dressing up and having tea parties, only Rosaline was a known genius in her school and a piano prodigy but only known to her mother and personal maids, her family didn't bother to care about the awards she brought home each day or answer the numerous calls and letters sent from her school.

So while Ruben went to perform, Rosaline walked back toward John who still had a devastated look.

"I will fence for you"

John blinked slowly before focusing his dark penetrating orbs on Rosaline.

It wasn't against the rules to have another candidate fight in place of the current one if he was injured. What John was worried about was the fact that he was the only captain with an high level and the opponent was in the same level as him so in order to win they had to find someone better that the two of them which was impossible.

Now his little cousin came towards him saying she would fight for him, John felt even more vexed at her presence.

"This isn't some game Rosalie, how can you a girl know how to fence?"

He had two sister he couldn't tolerate talk less his youngest cousin he had lesser talks with, today would be the most they ever interacted together.

"I said I will fight so what if I am a girl"

Rosaline sass back not bothering the scowl that grew on his face.

On a norm Rosaline wouldn't bother with issues such as these, she didn't want to seek out attention, she was just compelled to. I probably was due to the numerous tinme she had watch her cousin fight that she could confess had memorized all his moves and improvised hers or the constant trainings from her oldest cousin that made her grow up in a way.

She had always looked up to her oldest. cousin Ruben, what he didn't know was that she saw him as her idol, all his accomplishments and outstanding performance.

She also wanted to be somebody.

So she took the first chance she saw, tied up her cousin and wore his outfit, luckily she was almost the same size as him and the other boys here so it was easy for her to disguise herself as a boy and sign up.

By the time her cousin was rescued, and brought along help to stop her, she was through with the match.

She scored the highest score by 10 points knocking the opponent off the horse three times in a row, her strengeth and agility were too incredible for her small and slender stature it left the audience speechless after discovering that a little girl beat about twice her size and know to be the best among the beat.

It was the first among the best victory she ever won.

Till date nobody could ever forget her name.

Lady Rosaline Constance, the Yeaster legend.
