Chereads / Scarlet's Initiation / Chapter 11 - Chapter 11

Chapter 11 - Chapter 11

As she walks down the hall, Scarlet's mind wanders to the village she came from.

"I wonder how is Helga doing... How are the people that raised me?... Thomas parents... I left them all behind... It was so selfish of me..." the girl talks to herself while walking.

Suddenly, Scarlet starts feeling dizzy and her vision is foggy. She feels suffocated, her nostrils itch from a strange smell.

The girl looks at the torches around her, their flames start moving unnaturally, forming strange symbols and creepy faces.

Scarlet can't move her feet anymore and stumbles to the ground. When the light of her torch goes off, all the other lights do the same. She finds herself in complete darkness and closes her eyes just for a second, to gather herself.

When the girl opens her eyes, the torches are gone and so is the stone hall.

Scarlet gets up like nothing happened and finds herself in a vast field. The sky is painted with stars and a big round moon.

"Everything looks so perfectly real... but it feels so fake..." she thinks and is surprised to find her voice echoing around, even if she didn't actually opened her mouth.

The girl turns around and finds herself looking mokingly at her.

"Who are you?" Scarlet asks the girl standing in front of her.

"You tell me" the girl replies smirking.

Scarlet looks confused at her copy. The girl continues:

"Who are you, exactly"

"I am Scarlet Eastwood"

"Are you sure?"

"I am... Scarlet... Salastor?"

"This is just your name, who are you!"

"I am... a... human, a girl?"

Scarlet's copy starts laughing so hard that the ground shakes.

"You. Are. A. Disapointment!"

"T-That's not true!"

"You left the people who raised you with love, your friends, everything! Because of what, because life didn't give you what you wanted?"

"...."

"You are selfish, you only care about yourself! You deserve what is now happening to you!

Life gives you what you need, not what you want! You're gonna die here!"

Scarlet feels like crying but she doesn't let it out.

"I know what I want and don't need life to give it to me anyways.

I was selfish to leave my loved ones behind, but now, I've got a purpouse, a real and important one." Scarlet thinks.

"After saving the forest and avanging my father, I will go back to the village and fix everything. It sounds like a big lie, but what else could I possibly do?"

This thougts echo around the two of them.

"No! I'm gonna live! I'm gonna get what i want and what i need!"the girl screams.

Scarlet walks closer to her copy and punches it's face with all she's got.

The copy's face starts cracking then it breaks like a porcelain doll's face. The copy starts laughing like crazy while her whole body starts breaking and cracking.

"Well done Scarlet! Well done!"

Scarlet looks puzzled at the image in front of her as blinding light comes out of each crack from the copy's body.

With one last laugh, the copy vanishes and bright light blinds the girl so she closes her eyes tight and hugs herself.

When Scarlet opens her eyes again, she's laying on the ground in the same old stone hall with light up torches on the walls.

Her head hurts like hell, her heart beats very fast and her whole body is burning but, nonetheless, she picks up her torch and slowly gets up.

When she tries to light up the torch it just doesn't work so the girl throws it against one of the walls from frustration.

But the torch breaks when it colides with the stone and a key jumps out of it.

Scarlet picks up the key:

"Another one... this means there must be another exit somewhere near"

This key shines like the other one and has the number 5 on it.

The girl puts the key in her pocket and starts walking, her pain disappearing bit by bit.

"But, why did I even took a torch from the wall if the whole hall is luminated by light up torches? Guess i wanted to be ready to set something on fire" Scarlet giggles to herself.

"Why was that copy so happy that I punched her? Why were my thoughts echoing around?...."

"Was I... in my mind?"

The girl loses track of her questions when a strong wind blows by, turning off all the torches.

Scarlet pulls out the key from her pocket and continues walking.

"That wind must have comes from the exit... I hope..." the girl thinks.

Finnaly, she finds a keyhole with the number 5 next to it.

The only problem is that the keyhole is huge and the key it's too small to fit in it.

Scarlet looks through the keyhole but she can't see anything aside from pitch black.

She puts her arm in it because it fits and the only thing she feels is wind, just wind.

"From this wind, on the other side it isn't a room or a hall, it must be something outdoors"

The girl mumbles sitting down on the floor with her legs crossed.

Scarlet focuses hard on the key in her hands and wishes it would fit through the keyhole.

Suddenly, her palms start burning and glowing a yellow light.

The girl is very surprised and scared but keeps her focus on the key. The light dims and Scarlet thinks it's going to turn off so she wishes and focuses harder.

Luckily, the light becomes bright again and after a few seconds the key starts growing, and growing, until it's big enoigh to fit through the keyhole.

Scarlet doesn't waste any more time and gets up, reaching for the keyhole. The key is surprisingly light and fits perfectly in the hole.

The girl twists the key and the wall disappeares.
