Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Swampy Forest: Part ll

"So now we have a possibility that the child didn't make it." Doctor An says feeling that shiver he felt earlier. There was some evil thing running about in this forest and they had no clue where it might be. Or if it could be watching them at this very moment. Kila climbs up the odd tree and sits on the branch, "there's no sign of a struggle anywhere, but that doesn't give me much to go on." She says outloud. Doctor An could feel the uneasiness inside him building. Signs like this was not a good thing, all kinds of bad scenerios flashed through his mind.

"So what's the plan?" He asks turning to Kila who still seemed to be at a lost for words. Her face didn't really reveal much of her feelings, which was normal, but even he could see that she was struggling to accept the possibilities of yet another child's death. Kila climbs back down from the tree after observing the area around them, "we should move foreward, I'm getting a very bad feeling." She mutters. he barely made out her words. "Right, moving foreward. What a great plan, oh if you hadn't noticed we have nowhere else to go!" He says his voice heightening. Kila frowns at this, nowhere else to go.

Suddenly it dawned on her, "of course, the child must have waited and then took a swim." She says going over back to the pond. Doctor An stood there and stared at her, "huh?" he asks completely out of the loop. "Just think about it, there's no sign of footprints going anywhere else, and no signs of a struggle. So if I look closer; then the footprins should be doubled." She points out lying flat on the ground on her stomach. Okay she's totally lost her freaking mind, going on to make up such a rediculous notion.

She stands back up and dusts herself of, "I thought so, that child definitely took a swim, our way out will be going under water." She says. Doctor An groans, he hoped she wouldn't say that, "this has got to be a very bad idea. I mean whatever came this way must have followed the child." he says. Kila shakes her head, "no, not likely, my thoughts is that this child is smart, the child definitely waited for whatever to go back in the direction they came. Considering it is the only way back, at least that's what it seems." She says as she descends into the crystal clear water. She dives under and after what seeemed like a very long time she came back up for air.

Kila wipes the water from her face and beckons him to follow her, "just as I expected there's a tunnel that leads pass the odd tree." She says. "I was actually hoping you would say that there was no way out." He grumbles as he kicks off his shoes and also climbed into the pond. Kila rolls her eyes as she dives once again together with Doctor An, the both of them having taken deep breaths in hopes the tunnel didn't take too much time or air. But as they swim and oxygen was beginning to become a problem the tunnel was already leading into an opening. They swam up as quickly as possible, breaking through to the surface.

Coughing, Kila climbs out and lays flat on her back, Doctor An following suit, "well that was close. Anything else dangerous for us to do?" He asks. Kila stares up and notices that they were still surrounded by trees, but that was not all, right now they were being watched and this time she could see, just barely, what's been watching them. "Doc, don't move an inch." She whispers to him. Doctor An, who was way into collecting his bearings didn't get the hint, "are you crazy, I have to get dry, I'm soaked to my tousers!" He exclaimed as loudly as possible. Kila cups her hand over his mouth and places a finger to her lips, then she points up aggressively.

His eyes follows her hand movements to the sky, at first he saw nothing, but then a pair of orange eyes could be seen in the trees. Well, more like a few dozen pairs. He whimpers fearfully, he just knew this was a bad idea, Kila glares at him and points in the direction of a path that was not far from them. Whatever hid beyond the trees have been there for a while, which means if they continue to pretend not to notice, perhaps they wouldn't attack? Kila gesture for him to follow, he nods and instantly follows her to the the path of trees. Suddenly at the corner of her eyes, she could see the shift of bodies, "run!" She yells.

Doctor An, who was not sure what was happening took off in a sprint, Kila right in front of them. The sound of wings was all he could make out over the quickened footsteps. They were dodging and jumping as though there was a obstacle course laid before them. All he did was take a look back to see what was chasing them, and immediately regretted his decision. The large birdlike creatures were close behind them, it's huge beaks open and bearing its teeth, A Tebird [check glossary for this creature.]
