Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Swampy Forest: Part l

"So this is Swampy Forest, looks more normal than I expected." Doctor An says as the two of them stood just outside the entrance. "Does this mean, you're no longer scared?" Kila teased as she began to move inside. "Wait, I wasn't scared. Just really cautious." He denies running right behind her. Kila and Doctor An made their way through the forest, the deeper they went the darker, "is it just me or did it become night all of a sudden?" Doctor An asks. Kila who was on alert nods, "yeah, the sun was blocked by the trees awhile ago." She says.

The darker it became the more the forest started looking eerie, the trees looked as though they had eyes and mouths, and it seemed as if they were being watched. "I take back everything I said earlier, it's worse than I expected." Doctor An shivers as he followed close behind Kila. The sounds around them were many, but there was not a creature in sight, but they could feel the eyes boring into them. "So why do you think it's called Swampy Forest? There's not a swamp in sight." Doctor An says. He felt making conversation was the best distraction at this moment, "just because you don't see a swamp doesn't mean there isn't one." She says.

"You have a point." He agrees as they continued even deeper inside the forest until they came to a small opening that showed a night sky. "What the hell! What kind of sorcerey is this? It's night already?" Doctor An asks. It was a bit strange, she would have to admit this. They barely been in this forest for an hour and it was just reaching full day when they did enter. "Do you hear that?" Kila asks as the sounds of wind whistling around her drew her attention. Doctor An shakes his head, for he didn't hear anything, Kila crouches down and checks a patch of dirt before her.

It was barely there, but she could see a small footprint in the dirt. Doctor An squints down at her, "what are you looking at?" He asks. "A child's been here." She answers standing. "A child? That's impossible, why would a child be here?" He asks. That's what she would like to know, and judging by the prints the girl was in a rush. "Do you think she's a spirit, like the others?" Doctor An asks. Kila thinks back to the other villagers and remembers a very critical detail, "no, becuase they didn't have the ability to leave footprints." She says looking around for signs of more footprints.

"Are you trying to tell me that there's a child somewhere in this forest?" He asks. Kila looks back at him, her face serious, "seems like there was definitely a child here at some point." She says. Doctor An sits down, "this is a problem and a whole new situation. My guess is whatever killed the villagers chased the child here and has either already killed that child or the child is hiding in the forest somewhere." He says. Kila points toward an opening through the trees, "she went that way, we should follow them to see where they lead." She tells him.

Doctor An sighs, there was no getting out of it, he stands back up and follows Kila through the trees. "Are you sure we should do this? I mean what if whatever it was that killed the villagers already killed the child?" He asks. "Even so, we should at least try." She says. They continued ahead, until she saw glowing ahead, it was a clear pond and it was also where the prints stopped. "Oh no, the child must have fallen in and drowned!" Doctor An shows a sad face while Kila searches around the pond. She stops on the other side of it and she crouches down to get a closer look. "No, she hid in the water and then she came out this way and the footprints lead to this tree." She says as she made her way over to a big funny looking tree.

She looks up into the leaves, there was no sightings of a child. That meant she was no longer in the tree. But there were no signs of anymore footprints. Kila felt her heart squeeze, could this be a bad sign? Did the child finally get caught by whatever evil's out there? Or could it be the child got away somehow. Find out in the next chapter.
