Today was Thanksgiving. My brothers are all overseas so they won't be coming home. It'd be a waste of a plane ticket since they'd only be able to stay for not even a day before heading back. We were going to call them but they were busy with either class or their job. It was weird to think that it was only going to be dad and me this year. Since I got a job we rarely get to talk anymore. Our schedules clash and not in a good way. I hopped off my bed and sighed heading downstairs.
"Hey, dad what are we planning on doing for Thanksgiving this year?" I asked before rounding the corner to the kitchen.
"Well, the McCaress's offered us to have dinner with them. I thought it'd be nice since it's just going to be the 2 of us and the rest of their family lives in Canada. So their Thanksgiving has already passed." Dad said before going back to making something that looks like mashed potatoes.
"Oh ok, do you need any help?" I asked before pouring a glass of water for myself.
"No, that's alright, Lori. Just go get ready and be down in 30. Wear something nice please." He said before shooting a smile at me.
"Alright," I said heading upstairs to put something nice on. I was probably going to just wear a simple white dress my aunt gave me and tying my hair up in a ponytail.
Unlike my brothers who got my mother's golden blonde hair and my father's grey eyes. I was pretty plain I got my dad's dirty blonde and mom's brown eyes. I'm not saying much though I don't really care about how I look.
I decided to text Julian and ask him what he was wearing.
Texts between Lori and Julian;
Lori: Hey, what are you wearing?
Julian: Awww why do you wanna know? You wanna match? ;)
Lori: I just don't wanna show up too dressed up :p
Julian: Well I'm wearing a navy blue sweatshirt and blue jeans
Lori: alr, see you
Am I overdressed but then again, I could wear this on a picnic or to the grocery store and look normal. Not that I would, you have to be extra careful with dresses and I just don't roll like that. Sweatpants, leggings and basketball shorts have always been my best friends.
Before I could think any further the doorbell rang.
"YO, DAD WE EXPECTING ANYONE?" I yelled towards the kitchen. I went to open the door. The person who appeared in front of me made my body go numb. I couldn't move, my feet were glued to the ground.
"Who is it, Lori?" Dad asked while he wiped his hands with a cloth. When he finally looked up he froze.
"Camryn?" Dad asked.
I was unable to form words as multiple emotions ran through my body. My mouth was dry and I couldn't do anything but stare.
"Daniel." The woman said before pulling dad into a hug. She then looked at me and pinched my cheeks.
"I'm home, darlings." She said forming a smile.
"...Mom?"
