"Hey, you didn't tell me your mom was gonna be back in town," Julian whispered into my ear.
"Yeah, I didn't either until about an hour ago either." I said unconsciously rolling my eyes.
The adults were having their own conversation while me and Julian just kind of sat there eating.
"Damn, ok. What's ruffled your feathers?" Julian asked completely oblivious.
"Nothing, it's just...hurry up and eat and then we can excuse ourselves to your room." I said before grabbing a spoonful or mash potatoes.
After we ate and were excused from the table we went up to Julian's room.
"Ok so, I have not seen my mother since I was around 7. She just one day up and left. Everything was fine the whole day until me and my brother's got back from school. She had her bags packed and that was that. She never called or tried to talk to me it would've been nice to grow up with another girl in the house." I said softly smiling at him.
"Damn, that must've been horrible. I grew up with both my parents around so I can't imagine something like that. Why is she back now though?" Julian asked.
"She said she was in town shooting a show and decided to stay with us instead of renting a place. Dad said yes, of course, but I guess other than that I do that really know why." I sighed turning away to look out the window. The sun had started to set and you could see it's reflection off the ocean.
My brothers and I had always played football around now. But this year it was different. This year hasn't been the same. I've always been afraid of change. I knew nothing stays the same forever but for a little while I knew I was happy. Where I knew I was never one because I had my brothers. I've always wondered what it would've been like to grow up with my mother around.
I wonder if I would've turned out the way I am. Or if I would've turned out differently. Don't get me wrong my father did the best he could to raise me and be the mother and the father figure in my life. I'm grateful for all he's done. I'm grateful for my brothers too. When all seemed loss they were always there for me.
"Hey, you got me now. I'm not planning on leaving anytime soon so for now you wanna go outside and play some soccer?" Julian asked picking up the soccer ball he leaves in his closet.
"I would love nothing more." I said sweetly smiling at him. I'm glad things turned out the way they did though. I'm grateful that Julian wanted to be my friend.
"Hey, why are you dilly dallying? If you don't hurry up I'm going to just leave you behind," Julian said as he put in his sneakers and opened the door for me.
"Your on and don't cry when you lose," I laughed rushing out the door with him.
