"Ok, fine," I said before I walked upstairs.
"Hey, I know I haven't been the best mom but it would mean a lot to me if you give me a chance," my mom looked up from the ground to look me in the eye. "Oh, and I brought this for you. A matching necklace set for me and you."
She pulled out 2 necklaces both had half of a heart. Engraved on them one said mother and the other said daughter. It was beautiful however if it took a simple necklace to rebuild bonds we wouldn't need police, judges and lawyers.
"...thank you, wait why are you all dressed up? Where are you going?" I asked looking down at her maroon off-the-shoulder cocktail dress that ends right above the knees.
"Well, your father texted me just now and told me that we were going to dinner at the neighbour's house." She said with jazz hands and a big smile.
"WHAT?!" This would be the first thanksgiving with my mother since I was 7. It's not that I don't her there well, actually, I don't but still, she should spend Thanksgiving with her family and it's very clear that we aren't.
"YOU TWO LOVELY LADIES, IT'S TIME TO GO," dad yelled from the bottom of the stairs.
"Well, let's go sweet cheeks." My mom said linking our arms together and dragged me down the stairs.
"You 2 look so pretty." My dad smiled carrying a tray of I'm assuming mashed potatoes.
"I know beautiful, isn't she. You've really grown up." Mom replied.
"Ok, whatever. Let's go," I said holding the door open for my father. Hoping this night goes ok.
