Chapter 19 - Interschools competition

The inter schools sports competition had began. The girls were training so hard for this moment. And when it was finally here, they could not hide their excitement. Chantel had decided to attend this competition so that she could go and support her friends while they played. And also, Kevin would be there. Ever since they came back for the second term, she had not had time to meet him. She missed him so much and she was hoping he was missing her too.

There were so many sporting activities going to happen there. There was going to be athletics, football, basket ball, volley ball, hand ball, tennis. The whole sports program was going to also for a week, so it needed a lot of preparation. Adiepena and Cynthia had both trained so hard and were ready to help their teams win the cup. Chantel promised to be there throughout the program to support them.

The day finally came. The school has three different buses, which will convey the players and the other students to the park. The players were sent to the park first, so that they would have enough time to train before the day starts. Then the bus will come back for the other students. Some of the students opted to go there on their own. They did not want to be packed in the buses like sardines in a tin. Those who could not afford to go there on their own waited for the bus to take them there.

Chantel could go on her own. But, she did not want to be alone so she decided to join her classmates in the bus. She waited till it was their turn to go. When the buses came, they all rushed inside to get a better place to sit. Most of them were pulling and pushing each other but in the end, they all got in. Chantel, after much fights, got somewhere to sit. But, the bus was so packed that, some were made to stand inside, making it difficult to breath.

They were so sweaty by the time the got to the park and Chantel thanked god that she did not get asthma from that. Even though it was uncomfortable riding in that style, it was really fun. The students were singing and chanting in the bus. Since she had never attended any of such events, she was clearly over excited. She really could not wait to travel like that in the next four days to the park.

So they got down, and looked for places to sit where they could get a better view of things. The boys teams started first. That day, the football, basketball and hand ball teams had matches. And, there was athletics too. Chantel kept looking around hoping to see Kevin but there were so many students. About six different schools were there. Two mixed schools, two girls schools and two boys schools. Chantel's school had all gathered themselves at one part of the park. Actually, everyone was seated according to their school so that it will be easier to tell them apart.

The football team started the day first. Kevin's school, the kings boys school were up against one the boys from one of the mixed schools. At the end of the game, both schools had drawn. Then, the other schools went up against each other. The second match had 1-0 win for the boys from the other boys school. The last match had 0-0 draw as well. It had all been such tough matches. Later, the basket ball teams were called. They were going to play at the other side of the park.

Chantel stood up and went there to watch, hoping to catch a glimpse of her boyfriend in action. She actually did see him standing there in his basket ball uniform and a ball in hand talking to his friends. She snuck up behind him and tickled him. He jumped up and turned, his face in a frown. But, when he saw who it was, he broke into a joyous smile. He dropped the ball and quickly hugged her.

"Oh God, my darling. I am so happy to see you. I missed you so much." he said when he broke the hug.

"I miss you too, baby. When I heard you guys will be coming to play, I was so happy because I knew I will get to see you, at least." Chantel responded.

"I am so glad you came. I almost thought you would not come since you told me you never liked sports, the last time we spoke. So, what actually changed your mind?"

"Well I came because of you and also, my best friends. They are both in the hand ball and football teams respectively, and I wanted to come and give them my support."

"All the same, I am happy you came. I wish I could kiss you right now," he said and winked making Chantel blush madly.

She never knew why she found it hot when Kevin flirted with her in public but she liked it anyway. She loved how she had began to trust him and how she felt comfortable around him. It is only Kevin she could get that comfortable with. She smiled shyly when he held her hand.

"Are you going to stay and watch me play?" he asked her.

"Yes, that is why I am here. I am going to wait till I see you play before I leave here."

"Then, pray for me my darling to win. And when I do win, I will give you the biggest surprise," he said and moved closer to her. He closed the gap between them, leaving Chantel absolutely breathless.

"R-Really?" she stuttered, swallowing hard.

Kevin nodded slowly. "All I need is your support. Nothing else matters to me. Just you being here."

"Then I am going to be here as long as you want me to," she smiled.

"I really want to kiss you right now. But, I will save that for later. I have to go and get ready. We will be starting first. So, I will see you later, yeah?"

"Yeah. I will see you later," she replied.

He quickly kissed her nose and ran to join his teammates who were already gathered around.
