Chapter 23 - You promise?

Chantel laid in the bed with her shirt on, while her lower was covered in Kevin's blanket. Kevin, however was half naked and his blanket was spread over his lower body as well. He and Chantel laid in bed in each others arms. She had her head on his chest while he held her close to him.

Both of them had just made love when they had not planned it. Kevin was really starting to regret doing it with Chantel but at the same time, he loved being one with her. He had enjoyed every bit of last night yet he was afraid of Chantel's reaction.

"Kevin, what time is it?" Chantel asked.

"It's 8:30pm." he answered.

Chantel slowly got up from the bed and started wearing her jeans. She was also regretting what happened last night. She knew she would have sex with Kevin eventually, but she did not expect it to be this early in the relationship. They had just been together for six months.

"Chantel, I am so sorry. I know I said nothing was going to happen, but I failed you. I got carried away and ended up making love to you. I am sorry," Kevin said, sounding worried.

Chantel wore her jeans and sat back down. She sighed heavily. "Kevin, it's okay. We both got carried away so you don't need to apologise. I am just worried that I might get pregnant because of that. I just turned 16 some months ago, I can't be a teenage mom."

"Chantel, listen. I know the implications of what we just did. I love you and I promise that I won't ever leave you. I will be by your side no matter what happens."

"You promise?"

"I promise you, Chantel. I love you baby girl."

"I love you too." They kissed each other.

"I should get going. It's already late and I have to get back to school. Cynthia and Adiepena might be worried sick about me."

"Yeah, you are right. I have to take you back to your school before your friends skin me alive. So, let me quickly get dressed then I will take you back." Chantel smiled and nodded.

Kevin quickly got dressed and helped Chantel off the bed. She was walking awkwardly a bit because she was in a bit of pain. The pain was bearable, so she was able to hide how she felt from Kevin who was busily walking ahead of her to get them a taxi to get her back to her school.

After waiting for what seemed like hours, they finally caught a taxi. They both got in. They were driven to the school immediately. Kevin got down and opened the door for Chantel who smiled at Kevin for being such a gentleman. He asked the driver to wait for him while he walked Chantel inside.

They were almost at the dormitories when Chantel decided to go in alone.

"Are you sure you don't want me to come with you?" Kevin asked her.

"Yes, love. I will be fine from here. Thank you for bringing me home and thank you for showing me a good time. I enjoyed every bit of it." Chantel said.

"Okay, if you say so. I will see you later then. I love you baby girl."

"I love you too Kevin."

She headed inside the dormitory and went upstairs. After she was gone, Kevin walked away from the place and headed towards the gate. When he came out, he sat inside the waiting taxi, which took him back to his school.

Chantel met her friends seated on Adiepena's bed, reading a notebook. They both looked up when they felt somebody else in the room. They quickly put the notebook aside and rushed towards her.

"Chantel, where have you been?" Cynthia asked.

"Where did you go with Kevin? Have you seen the time? " Adiepena threw another question at her.

Chantel's head began to throb. She sat on the nearest bed and held her head. The other girls sat beside her.

"I went out with Kevin to his school. He wanted to show me around and also took me to the party their school had hosted. I was carried away by the music and dancing so I did not realise the time. Sorry I got you girls worried."

"They held a party at their school? I never knew that," Cynthia said.

"It was just a private thing but they were allowed to bring few friends over. So, Kevin decided to take me with him."

"Oh I see. Well, you must be tired then. Thank God tomorrow is Sunday, otherwise, you would have been sleeping in class." Adiepena said.

"Yeah. I want to take a quick shower. I will be right back."

"I guess you have not seen the time. It is almost 10pm. Let me go and escort you then. It will be safer that way." Cynthia said and got up after Chantel.

Chantel took her towel and new set of clothes then walked outside with Cynthia following her. Adiepena went back to her bed and continued reading the notebook she and Cynthia were reading earlier.

Two months later.

Chantel was feeling terrible. She was having a fever and her body was aching all over. She had a blanket draped all over her body. She feels sick every morning and has began going to her class late. She had exams coming up, yet she felt her strength drain out of her each day.

Cynthia and Adiepena were both getting worried. They decided to send her to the school's infirmary so that the school nurse could take a closer look at her. So, they went with her to see the nurse.

When they got there, she sat in front of the nurse and explained her symptoms to her. The nurse listened to her carefully and when she was done, she asked her, "When was the last time you saw your menses?"

"I think it was about two months ago." she answered.

"Do you vomit in the mornings?" the nurse asked again.

"Yes, sometimes." She answered again.

The nurse stood up and walked towards a drawer then took out a container.

"I need you to urinate into this container for me, okay. I will send it to the hospital near here for some tests. I am sure we will get the results soon.  But for now, I will advise you to watch what you eat. And, also eat in small margins, okay? And these are some folic acids. It will help you."

"Thank you." she took the container and rushed to the washroom which was inside the infirmary and urinated into it. She brought the container to the nurse who gave her a small polythene to keep it in.

"So, come back tomorrow for the results, okay?" tge nurse said.

Chantel nodded. "Okay, auntie. Thank you." she stepped out of the infirmary and walked up to the her friends. They walked back into the classroom block and departed into their various classrooms.
