What does this book want from him? Horace did not understand as he glared at it. He really wants to burn this damn book so that he wouldn't suffer all the anguish that he is feeling now because of it.
But what is that use?
This book would once again perform some weird magic to calm him down while not allowing him to hurt it.
How could this book have no emotions? It at least definitely has its own intelligence. It knows how to not hurt himself and also not to hurt him when the time comes.
Horace is really helpless when it comes to this object that peacefully rested in his hands while glowing in between a calming blue light and sometimes flashing a yellow-orange brightly.
He then turned the weird looking book around to see if there are any other hidden ways to open it to find no other options.
Hence he forcefully stuffed it back into its original place and walked away from it.
'It is really best to stay as far away from it as possible,' he mumbled to himself as he trudged away.
Once Horace went a certain distance away, the book on the shelf stopped glowing and is now visible in the form of any other normal books without any special qualities like the ones that Horace had seen or experienced until now.
On the other hand, Horace walked without taking another glance at the book as if he was trying to run away from it. In fact, that could not be considered as false. It is true that he wants to run as far away from this book as possible. It is just that he already tried and he got to know that he couldn't do it.
After multiple attempts that ended in failure, Horace resigned to his fate and stayed with this 'monstrous' book as there is no other solution that he found until now.
'I would definitely get rid of that book one day for sure,' is what he would chant every single day for numerous times as if just chanting it numerous times would make it into a reality.
He walked back through all the rows of numerous books and came down the stairs to find his table which is designated for him.
He went and sat on the chair that is paired with the table as he looked through the register in front of him to start his work.
***
Let Horace be introduced once again so that he could be understood better.
A skinny man who works as a Librarian had his special powers. The power is to take the time back by ten seconds with a snap of his fingers.
A mere amount of ten seconds did not help much in Horace's life as he instead faced many troubles in his life making him to leave his friends and all the other social life to live his life alone.
He then slowly started adapting practical values so that he wouldn't be hurt emotionally, mentally or physically by any of the decisions that he takes.
He would have fun with his powers sometimes while saving a few random people if he could sometimes. But he still struggles to think of ways to handle these powers of his.
While he is having these struggles with his super powers, he is having another battle with a book in the Library that he works at. A book that drags him to itself but not allowing him to open it.
After so many rejections, he tried escaping from it but he couldn't release himself from it clasps as he slowly resigned to his fate.
This little description is the entire summary of Horace's life.
Horace sighed while signing a few pages in the register in front of him as he was thinking about his 'pitiable' life when someone knocked on his table to gather his attention.
Horace stopped signing and raised his head to look at the person who just arrived and called for him. 'A beautiful woman.' That is the only thought that went in his head when he glanced at her.
But the woman seemed to realize who Horace is as she suddenly widened her eyes and pointed her finger at him to shout, "You good-for-nothing."
In the silent Library, her shout echoed as all the heads turned towards them giving strange looks.
Horace immediately felt embarrassed by so many eyes being on him but this is not a new occurrence either. Hence he cleared his throat and warned her, "This is a Library. Silence please." He then turned towards the others and spoke, "Sorry for the disturbance. Please continue reading."
Once he spoke Horace turned back towards the woman and recalled her calling him as 'good-for-nothing'. He immediately remembered the incident earlier where this woman had kicked a man who tried to bully a girl.
