Chapter 2 - One small step for man...

I hadn't brought much with me, this wasn't what I expected to find from using a time machine. It is entirely possible that a wormhole also brought me to a different universe or dimension as we don't have a full understanding of how wormholes work. For all I know I am in an alternate universe where these absolutely gigantic monstrosities would exist, or maybe there are creatures that existed that we haven't found out about yet but I just didn't get the time portion right on "The Final Test."

The equipment that I had brought with me is as listed; a medium-large backpack, a basic tool kit (screwdrivers [flat-head and phillips head], a handheld hammer, a metal file, flashlight, a pocket knife, a couple spare screws, two spare batteries for the flashlight, a battery charger, and a phone charger), and a phone with a fully functioning AI. Besides that I had a dark brown leather jacket, a semi-thick black cotton t-shirt, and jeans, with a pair of black socks and black combat boots on. That is all that I have with me besides the Final Test itself but it's not like I can drag that around with me.

I decided that I should check if the air filter in the Final Test was still working, considering that everything was battery powered, it certainly should be. The lights were still how and the control panel had red flashing lights so I had some hope that the power was on, although the flashing lights worried me. After a thorough check I found out the flashing lights were indicating that the roll cage and chair were missing, and that there was minor damage to the interior of the Final Test. Turning off all of the lights I noticed that there was NOT a red light near the ventilation system which meant they were still online.

Although the ventilation system was still online there was a yellow light next to it that meant that an unknown substance was in the air. I hadn't planned for this, I was expecting to be just a few years before I was born, I could get out of the Final Test and charge the batteries and then go back to my timeline but there wasn't a single sign of human civilization at all from what I saw when I had opened the door briefly. FUCK I had opened the door! I didn't feel any different, but maybe whatever was in the air wasn't harmful? Or maybe it just needed time to affect me.

Either way there was nothing I could do about it now, and there was nothing that I could do from in here! If I am going to die from starvation or poison in the air, I, by all means, am choosing poison. I have read somewhere that dying of starvation was one of the most painful ways to die, and I'm about to sign myself up for that on purpose. I walked over to the door and frowned before placing my hand on the handle. I don't know if this world follows the same rules that Earth does, what if this THING in the air is more painful than even starving is? Before I can start scaring myself even more I shove the door open and step out.

Subconsciously I hold my breath for a moment before just accepting my fate and taking a deep breath. I don't feel any pain, I don't really feel anything different except one thing. The air here is so clean! Normally, on Earth, you can't take a breath without getting a mouthful of smoke from cars, or some form of pollution. Here, I take a deep breath and I almost start coughing because my throat isn't used to such clean and cold air.
