Chapter 29 - CHRISTA NOTICES THOMAS DISAPPOINTMENT

Enjoying the peace, since everyone is in their bed, Christa had the kitchen all to herself.

Hearing the clock bang eleven times and Thomas hasn't returned home as yet. "He has never stayed out so late since we got married.

Well never mind, he doesn't discuss anything with me anyhow. Thank God, he put money in my side of the wardrobe so we don't have any reason to converse."

Halfway through her meal hearing the footsteps hurrying towards the kitchen, but she continues eating.

Recognizing it was Thomas but said nothing Christa continue with her meal and reading of her book.

Hearing him saying, "Mrs. Marva, what are you doing up this hour?"

Halfway inside the kitchen, Thomas stops seeing her head bent over the book and she was eating.

"What is wrong, can't you sleep?"

Raising her head slowly to respond to his remarks, "I just woke up."

"Is there any more of that what you are eating?"

Seeing she waves her hand in that direction towards the pot,

'God, can't she speak instead of waving her hand?'

"Can you dish it out please, while I go and freshen up? I will just take a few minutes."

When her hand raise Thomas said, "Thanks," angry with her for treating him like a servant and ignoring him.'

Turning to look at him, the way he storms out the kitchen. Whispering, "Wherever or whatever business transaction he went for. It seems to be unsuccessful and he is a slight bit edgy.

I better dish his food out before he returns and makes a fuss." Making tea for us, only taking hers without milk.

Resting his plate and cup on top of the table, then took her tea and relax. While waiting for him to return, Christa continues to read.

Half an hour past and he did not return. "Well he must have fallen asleep, it happens to me all the time."

Half twelve rolled out the bread dough and put it in the bread pan then made a few hops leaving it to rest and continuing with her reading.

When it was ten to one. Christa was sure he has fallen asleep, she takes a container emptying the bodi, and add the remainders from the pot into the container.

In another container, wrap the bake in a towel, rest it into a bag, placing it in the refrigerator. whispering, "In the morning, I only have to reheat it."

Taking her bible once more, reading psalms while waiting for the bread dough to rise.

Smiling as he enter the kitchen, thinking she had his food dished out only to see on top of the cupboard empty.

So was the kitchen table, anger boils for the way she ignores him. Seeing the sink have two plates and a cup. And a cup was covered on top of the table.

Not disturbing her because she was on her knees praying. Thomas checks the refrigerator seeking out something to eat.

The container with the bodi she was eating was not cold, so was the container with the bake.

Hearing the clock bang one time Thomas looks at the clock. "Good Lord, I can't believe that I lie down for so long? She must have thought I fell asleep.

Taking up the teacup it had a slight warmness. When she stood up and took the food from his hand and dish it out, then put it to reheat.

Opening the oven, she lights it and checks the time. Returning to attend to the meal then place it on the table where he sits and waits.

Hearing him say, "Thanks," then sits aside leaning her head back with her eyes closed, Christa continues praying.

Looking at her hoping that she will return to the room with him. We don't sleep together but just knowing she is in the room, gives me satisfaction and comfort.

Waiting for her, afraid to move, so she won't be disturbed. When the clock bangs two she opens her eye and stood up going to the oven.

The aroma from the bread tickles his nose, making him hungry again.

Seeing she close it I ask, "Is it done?"

When she shook her head, feeling to just shake her, thinking, 'Is it so hard for her to say no, or it still needs a few minutes?'

Standing up he took the plate and cup to the sink and leaves.

Christa look at him goes, "Boy, he looks angry, that bath did not cool him down. He should take another bath."

Amusingly Christa went and wash the few dishes and wipes the cupboard while waiting for the bread to finish.

In the room he was already sound asleep, lying on the corner where she sleep each night.

Unable to rest Christa felt the coldness from the air conditioner was too cold and had caused her to start sneezing.

Then the gripe started once more. Standing up Christa then hurried to the washroom quietly.

Still wrap with the counterpane, feeling so weak as the pain returns in her stomach.

Sitting right on the floor inside the washroom, Christa closes her eyes cuddling up herself.

Thomas woke up thinking she was still asleep, only to see where she was sleeping the sheet was on the floor.

"I can't believe she woke up before me." Going to the washroom Thomas stumble, falling on top of her.

"What the hell," he grumbled.

When her eyes open, she whispers. "I am sorry."

Still, on top of her, Thomas asks, "Why are you sleeping in here?"

"You were restless and needed the coldness, and I started to sneeze. Besides I had to use the washroom a few times during the few hours.

So I stay right here."

Thomas hearing her chuckles. "This is a joke to you? You can catch germs and get sicker."

"Maybe, I already catch germs, so please be careful, it might be contagious."

Enjoying the closeness and our conversation, enjoying the way she laughs. But right now I need to use the toilet and she is blocking me.

"You are right, I can't afford to get sick, and how will I be able to meet my beautiful lawyer today? Or will you go with me?"
