AURELIA
I got out of the car, said bye to my sister and dad, and made my way to the gates of St. Valkyrie high school. And my, what a grand school it was, it would probably take me weeks to explore the entire building and get used to finding my classes.
As I walked through the gates the few guards smiled at me, I smiled back. One of them asked, "Newbie?" And I replied, "Yeah, I just moved here." to which he said, "thought so strange face, but good luck on your first day!"
As I entered the school campus, it seemed almost empty. There were about a hundred students I mentally counted, which honestly didn't look like a huge amount like the number may have insinuated. From what I read about St. Valkyrie, it was deemed to be a very cosmopolitan school bustling with teens every time of day. Not today apparently.
I moved around the establishment exploring the grounds, there was like a mini-Cafeteria outside with benches and tables with large umbrellas covering them so if kids wanted to sit outside, they could and not get burnt or wet in case of rain. That was pretty cool, and the mini places selling lunches and snacks and ornamental artifacts lined up three different directions so that any one place wouldn't be crowded, from my perspective and opinion.
There was a huge land area, with grass neatly kept, it looked like and leading all the way to the end was a small lake which at the south end was a bleacher. I'm guessing this lake is where they do swimming and they use the bleachers. At different parts of the land, there are huge maple trees lining the front to the lake and all the way to the end to the bleachers.
Going around the back, I saw the same set up of benches and tables and all the way to the back there was a huge parking lot where about two-hundred or more vehicles of all modules were parked, a few students were coming from there. At the opposite end from where I stood a group of boys sat, hearing their boisterous laughter, I turned to go back around and I was almost to the opened arch of the door to step inside the school, a girl running towards me, eyes suddenly went wide when she apparently realized she couldn't stop nor could I move to avoid what was about to happen.
And just like that, the file, pens, and pencils flung themselves out of my hand scattering to the ground as the girl rammed into me at mid-speed as I barely felt the impact, but it was enough to have me staggering backward as I held onto her left side shoulder and when I stopped, she ended in flinging herself in a half-circle and finally stopped with her bending forwards with her hand supporting her on the ground. Looking up at me, eyes still wide, hair whipping against her cheeks, she scrambles up standing straight, looks at the ground of the mess she mistakenly made with my stuff, looks at her phone and what I guess is a pleading look in her eyes she says, "I'm sorry, I'm so, so sorry, but I'm really late and if I don't make it to this class, I'll have detention for the rest of the week, please, I'm really sorry."
Feeling sorry and totally understanding where she is coming from, I say, "It's okay, get to your class." Running while looking back at me talking, she says, "thank you so much, I'll owe you one! Call it in at any time." Smiling at her, I raise my voice saying to her, "I'll remember that!" As I turned around to get my stuff from the ground, a guy approached me, bent and so did I at the same time, helping me to get my scattered pens and pencils from the ground, "quite the clumsy one, aren't you?" he says in a teasing smile.
Both of us getting up, he hands me my stuff as I placed them in my file once again. Laughing I say, "sure, but someone quite clumsier than me caused that little chaotic scene, thanks for helping me clear it up by the way." "No problem?" "Aurelia Quintia." He repeated my name, "mind if I call you Lia?" "It's no problem, in fact, that's what my family calls me, so it's okay. And you are?" "Esme Valentine."
Saying his name, we both shake hands, "it's nice to meet you Esme Valentine" "Likewise Lia," he replies with a smile. Now that I really look at him, he is pretty cute, with high cheekbones and a cute nose he's got short light blonde hair lining around his head, and at the top, it's a fluffy mess. He was also tall, about 5'8 to my 5'2 so I had to look up at him as we speak, and for a boy, he has a great fashion sense. He has black converse on, light wash denim jeans, a white tee-shirt, and a denim jacket to top off his look.
"You know you clean up well," I blurted out. Raising his eyebrows at me, then laughing he says, "thank you."
Face turning red with embarrassment, I said, "sorry, didn't mean to be so forward."
Smiling he says, "It's okay, you're cute, don't worry about it." I returned the smile, he was so nice, I could tell we were about to become friends, I mean how could anyone not, with him, he was nice and helpful and he didn't even make me feel uncomfortable for embarrassing myself, instead he was just...nice!
"Hey, would you mind showing me to the principal's office?" I asked Esme.
"Sure, right this way," he said as I followed.
Going up one flight of stairs, I say to him, "this school is huge."
"Oh yeah?" he asked. Smiling, he continues, "It is the only high school I've attended and I don't know much about the others, so I guess I have to agree with you."
We both shared one last smile as we came to a stop in front of a door with a sign hanging on it with the name Principal Flores marked on it.
"Thank you for showing me the way here!" I said to Esme, "no problem," he replied. As he turned around to leave, he said with a smile, "see you around Lia,"
"Yeah, you too," I returned his smile saying. Looking back at the door in front of me, I took a deep breath before knocking three raps on the door.
"Come in," a man from inside said. As I turned the handle, I suddenly became very nervous. I had never seen principal Flores and I don't know if he was mean, like what if he hated me, a thought interrupted me almost the same time I came face-to-face with him and I panicked my eyes going wide.
The man looked as if he was in his early sixties with a kind face, he had a bit of greying hair on the tips and he was tall.
He smiled at me, saying, "Hello, Aurelia is it, I was expecting you today."
Recovering from my trance, I fixed my face with a smile, and said, "yes...um hi sir," of course I fumbled with my words. Gosh, I wanted the floor to swallow me already.
Still smiling he says, "It's okay to be nervous, come take a seat," he pointed to the chairs in front of his desk. I smiled at him going to take the seat. I placed the file on the table and opened it, taking out the papers that had my medical records, my grades, and information about my past school, and gave it to principal Flores. Taking the papers from my hands, he goes over them for the next 20 mins, making small talks with me so as to not make me bored.
"Everything looks just fine to me Lia," he said to me. We had both agreed he'd call me Lia. Handing me a paper, he said "this is a map of the school, it may look hard and take you some time to get used to everything but I really hope this will help you in some way to find your way around the school and your classes, if however, it doesn't really help, you may come back and tell me so I can have someone assigned to you. They will help get you to your classes and show you around the school if you'd like. They would take you to your classes and come back after it is finished and take you to your next class."
Taking the map from his hands, I take in everything on it and all he says, after finished talking, I say, "Thank you, Mr. Flores, this is so much helpful and if I do encounter any type of problems, I will be sure to return and tell you, thank you again sir" Moving to get up, he also gets up from his seat and follows me to the door holding it open for me.
I mutter a thank you and he says, "I hope you'll love it here Lia, and the other kids of the school treat you well, and any problems, you can tell me."
"Of Course, sir, have a nice day."
"You too Lia."
Holding out the map I look to see where I am and where my first class, English, in room 128 is. After successfully finding it, I begin walking in that direction, looking around as I go.
