Chapter 22 - Way too reckless

He had dark brown fur and his height was enough to let a grown man lose their will to fight just by looking at it. Although it looks really heavy that strike just now was pretty fast and I don't believe I'd be able to lose it in this environment. Although I got a lot stronger than I was before coming to this world I am not match for this monster. Without a weapon I probably couldn't even hurt it and when looking at it's face you can see that his eyes are bloodred, seemingly infinite hunger and a will to fight until death.

"Let's fight already."

There would be no point in trying to act weaker than I am and maybe striking when he doesn't expect it. That only works against someone who is already thinking that you are weaker than them and not taking you seriously, because they are too proud. But beasts like this bear with cold eyes will just come at you with their full strength. Although that can also be an advantage in a fight for you. I have to use the strength of my opponent against himself! The bear ran at me ready to jump at any time and tear me apart with his sharp claws and his teeth, which are able to tear off your flesh like it's just some thin paper. I quickly turned to my left and was running towards the other trees so the bear had to change it's direction to catch me. When he wanted to charge at me again I quickly stopped for a moment, turned myself in his direction and swung my sword at his head. He easily evaded, but had to stop for a moment. I have to use range of my sword to my advantage and can't let him jump at me, this is probably the only way to win this battle. I ran with more speed than before right at a big tree in front of me. This is too risky, but I have to do it! With these thoughts I did something completely unrealistic and normally dumb, but I have to quickly kill it, before I have no more power left. I grabbed my sword and threw it high up in the air. Why? All part of my plan, well if this plan doesn't work then I guess I'll be sure to die either way. I used all of my skills I obtained while walking around the forest and trying to train my body in the best possible way and jumped against the tree with all my might. Simultaneously I grabbed the bow, which was still hanging around my shoulders with my right hand and with my left hand I grabbed an arrow from the quiver on my back. All of that had to happen in less than a second and then I jumped away from the tree with all my power again, while aiming for the head of the bear it was about a meter away from me and I quickly aimed at a certain part of his head. Putting in all of the experience I acquire since I came to this world and having complete faith in my abilities I shot the arrow and it hit directly into the right eye of the bear. Blood, darker than the colour of his eyes was shooting out of the wound and he was letting out an angry roar.

"Roooarrrr."

Not having a moment to think about anything else I just moved according to my plan and let the bow fall down onto the ground. I moved my left hand to the exact place it had to be and while the bear was still roaring out of anger I grabbed the sword tightly and moved the place with all of the momentum I still had. It was actually in the place I wanted it to be! I used all of my strength with the goal to slice off the head of the bear.

"Huh?"

I managed to slice the neck, but I wasn't able to cut deep enough and the bear didn't die immediately. Now I was in a rather weird situation and I was in the air flying towards the bear. Although it would surely die of blood loss after a while it can still kill me. I quickly reacted only according to my instincts and used the left over momentum from the jump to spin into the same direction I just swung my sword. After a few moments I was almost touching the bear and I managed to get into a position, where I was able to kick the bear with my left foot. It was the only thing I could do in this situation so I tried to put all my left over power into that kick and hit him. But the bear was still a colossal beast weighting probably more than a ton, so my kick wasn't really able to send him flying like I hoped it would. I was falling down onto the ground and the bear was about to fall onto me. I quickly rolled over my back and pushed myself into the air backwards. It was a close call, but I managed to get out of the way, before I would've died from the weight of that beast falling onto me. It still wasn't quite dead so I rammed my sword into it's head after which it's movement's completely stopped.

"How am I still alive."

I laid down onto the ground and stayed like that for a few minutes. When I had a bit of my strength back I thought about the fight and came to the conclusion that I shouldn't be alive. No matter which way you look at it I shouldn't have won this fight. I should be the one lying on the ground not breathing. My plan was so reckless that the bear couldn't react and then it all happened in a matter of seconds. Fighting normally with him there would've been zero chance of me surviving, but like this I set everything on this one chance and it actually worked. I stood back up and looked down onto the dead bear with my sword still stuck in it's head. I looked at it and thought it looked kind of similar, but I couldn't quite grasp why, because I was so exhausted in that moment.

"I have to get stronger."

I clenched my fists. It was not, because I was still incredibly weak or something like that, but my senses weren't sharp enough, if I would've heard or smelled him or if I would've been able to feel the vibrations of it's steps I would've not been caught off guard and maybe I would've had the time to think about how to defeat it. I am relying too much on my sense of sight, I could easily be assassinated like this even if I wear stronger physically than my opponent. Training not only my body, but also my senses was my next goal. And maybe doing that will also get me a step closer to reaching another goal of mine.
