After a few more days I suddenly saw light at the end of the corridor I was currently in. This whole place is like a maze, but I tried to stay in the most outer corridors, as to not encounter big halls or sleeping quarters of the goblins. But now I actually see light in front of me, so there has to be an exit, but the weird thing is I don't remember going backwards or taking any big corners to go in a circle, so why would I be back at the entrance?
I walked towards the light covering my eyes with my hands as to not get blinded by the light, which I was already extremely sensitive after a few days in complete darkness. I reached the main corridor and after checking if there were any goblins I turned my back to the light and noticed something strange. There should be the entrance to a corridor right next to the one I am in. I can still remember it and when looking around as far as I could I actually noticed that the corridors seemed like they were placed entirely different.
"Am I remembering it not r-"
Wait! This could very well be an entirely different entrance, but that would mean that this cave would be way larger than I had previously thought. I still remember that this mountain was massive, so big I couldn't even see the end of it and if there's another entrance to the cave right here than how big would this whole complex be? Well that's only good for me, because that just means that there are more goblins to hunt and thinking of a cave this big it shouldn't really matter if I kill a few dozen goblins, after all this cave could be home to thousands of goblins.
So while training myself further and further and encountering more and more goblins I eventually realized that something had inherently changed since I entered this cave. I began to think not of the darkness as my enemy, but as something helping me. By blocking my sense of sight I have to rely on my other senses and a training based on that concept actually seems to work, but the one thing that changed, besides me getting stronger and my senses getting sharper like I intended to was that the darkness became my aid.
After a few weeks of staying inside the cave the flesh of the goblins started to taste normal, it didn't taste good, but I don't have the urge to vomit after eating it anymore. Also the goblins seemed to get a bit more fearful, I actually heard a large group of goblins quickly moving all into the same direction and I would've thought that they were a group going out to hunt, but I could now actually hear the sound of a sword or a bow or some kind of weapon if I concentrated on it, but I couldn't hear them having any weapons and after that I realized that they are probably moving to some other place all together.
I don't know the exact reason, but the must start to fear me. So as to prove my theory I went back and only encountered troupes of multiple armed goblins. In my current state I was able to kill them easily as long as I had a good place to wait for them and they weren't a group of four of more goblins, but to me that actually meant that my theory was partially correct. Either I or some other strong person or beast is hunting the goblins. So because my senses continued to get sharper and sharper and because I didn't really encounter goblins in the corridors I had to move faster.
As the weeks passed I got stronger and stronger and I didn't get as many injuries as before, so although everything was progressing smoothly I decided to not use my sword to hunt the goblins for the next time. One of the reasons was that now I could take more time to kill the goblins, because the risk of getting heard by other goblins was way lower, because I didn't encounter as many goblins as before and the number began to shrink down more and more. Also it was too easy to kill them with my sword and I have been using the sword for a long time already, even before entering the cave, so I can't tell if it'll still be usable after the next fight. And although it's good to improve my sword skills I don't want to just rely on the sword as my weapon , so I decided that fighting with the knife, which is the only thing I still have from my previous world would let me improve more. It is not really a good knife, because it's originally used as a multiuse tool, which has multiple other uses than to kill people with, but the quality is probably better than most things you can get in this world and I want to get better at fighting with it, so I chose the risky option and decided to completely rely on the knife and hand to hand combat.
So with the knife in hand instead of my sword I was searching for my first Victims. I came across a few squads with four or three goblins, but decided to evade them and search for an easier target. And after wandering about for a few hours I heard two goblins talking to each other a few hundred meters away.
"Ki ta lokiro zen Gobiru?"
"Jakonpe ka re-"
I jumped around the edge and immediately stabbed the first one in his back, then I quickly pulled out the knife and pushed the body of the goblin I just stabbed forward onto the other goblin. I heard the other one catch him and used that moment to come up from the left side and stab him into the neck, well actually I wanted to stab him into the head, but I didn't expect the range of my sword and knife to be more different than I thought. Still h e was immediately dead and after that I only had to pull out the knife and stabbed it into the stomach of the first goblin I attacked, who still cried out in pain from the first wound I inflicted.
They both fell down onto the ground and I quickly left after that. That was not a second too late, because right after leaving I heard another goblin loudly shout something out, so I used all my speed and ran for a few minutes before sitting down. It was actually not that hard to kill them with only my knife, so if I use the same strategy it would definitely be doable to take on squads the same size I managed to kill by using my sword.
