Chapter 8 - Carnation 06

Saccharide Heinz

Paris, France: Oeillet de règne Académie Dormitory

"Hey, nerd! I'm going to ask you one more time," my voice thundered. I don't care if my voice was heard throughout the whole dorm building. "Where are they hiding the key to Aksenov's dorm?!"

The annoying nerd just won't stop crying and denying that he knows where the room keys are when he was standing in front of the key cabinet. I looked at him once last time before shoving him to the side. The collision of his body to the floor made a loud thump sound, making me close my eyes for a second.

Being a dumbass covering up for the damsel isn't going well for you now, is it?

"Please Saccharide! Believe me... We don't have a spare key for Raine's room," the nerd crawled fast towards me and clung onto the end of my shirt, begging me not to rummage the key cabinet. "It was requested from the department and- and-"

"And what?" I asked firmly when I felt his grip tightened, making uneven ceases on my white shirt. "By who...?!"

"I... I don't know," he stammered before looking down on the black tiled floor. I stayed silent for a moment; the boy looked up again with a look of hope when I did. "Please just don't destroy the cabinet. I'll lose my scholarship If I mess up this job."

You're not very good at this job. I mean, you don't know any sort of bloody hell information about a single key. Why the fuck did you do to deserve this job?

My eyes rolled when I saw his tears beginning to well up, making his eyeballs glossy. I watched as he turned into a bloody red hue, he tried to cover his crying by looking down, but I could hear him sniffling.

Weakling...

Within a couple of seconds, he stopped his drama because he was laying on the floor unconscious, with a teardrop on his cheeks. I looked at him blankly and rubbed my backhand to remove the little sweat droplets from his face when I slapped him with it.

"Say that to your dreams later," I whispered and kneeled next to him to check his pockets if he is hiding the key to Raine's room. A small notebook fell from his pants when I leaned his body to a nearby wall for support. Picking up the yellow notebook my eyes squinted and tried to adjust in the dark to read the label on the glow in the dark cover.

"Oeillet de règne Académie Dormitory"

Running my thumb along the smooth surface, I turned to the unconscious nerd and sighed. My legs were feeling a bit tingly from squatting so I sat down beside the nerd then leaned my back against the wall.

I smirked when I realized that it was the list of the names of students who resides here in the dorm. My head shot up when I felt a little shift movement beside me, I turned to my left side to see the boy gaining his consciousness.

Let me help you get back to your dreams...

My shirt was soiled with blood when I rubbed my fists on it to clean the red pigment off it. The boy was unconscious once again the moment my fist collided with his right cheek. His face was swollen a while ago, but now, it is swelling while bleeding.

He deserves that blow after lying to me that he doesn't know where Aksenov's spare key room is. Handing me the little notebook might have saved his nose from being broken and an ounce of his blood cells.

Or maybe just his nose...

"This piece of wood is more useful than you-" I said and pulled his hoodie over his head to hide his face from people that might pass by. "You piece of shit..."

Not minding to have a paper cut, I frantically flipped through the pages to see room numbers with the students' name alongside them, the status of their duplicate keys is written at the bottom of their names. I brought the notebook closer to my face to see the names and the numbers clearer, the fading ink and the tiny penmanship made it difficult to read.

And I thought this was going to be fast...

Aksenov...

Aksenov...

Aksenov...

"I will wait for you tonight," Yeah, she said that, but she locked her apartment and hid from me. It sucks that I have to go through this before I could give her a piece of my mind. Kicking the door down was my first choice but I'd rather not send the authorities during my fun so I just came here to find the fucking key.

"I love you..." her voice inside my mind made me touch my chest; the beating muscle inside me beats the hell out of my chest. I felt something beat inside me, something I thought I never had.

I need to find that key.

Her name should be written in the first few pages because her family name starts with A, which is the first letter in the goddamn alphabet. I followed my index finger as it passes by every surname with the letter A, my teeth clenched themselves as his patience starts to leave my body at an incredibly fast rate.

I stood up and tossed the thick group of paper back to the unconscious boy. "Fuck this notebook! You're as useless as the one who holds you"

My hair roots were nearly removed from my scalp when I clawed and pulled them out of frustration. "Shit! I need a cigarette..." my breathing has shallowed just with the thought of not seeing Raine tonight.

I slowly released them when I heard someone passing by, my eyes caught a glimpse of someone walking past us, I paid not much attention and proceeded to carry the nerd back to his station. Keeping his hood over his head, I made sure that his head was down.

"Nobody did this to you. You did this to yourself" Whispering in his ear, I smiled when I felt him shiver just by the sound of my voice. "I know you're awake. Shaking doesn't help, buddy."

"If you don't tell this to anyone, I might just forget your uselessness, clear?" I asked.

His whimper sounded like approval to me so, I regained my posture and sighed before walking down the dark hallway.
