Chapter 6 - Carnation 04

Saccharide Heinz

Paris, France: Oeillet de règne Académie

The last period didn't even start yet and these faggots were all comforting a crying girl. As I stepped inside the classroom, all eyes were on me; their stares were practically killing me right now.

"What?!" I shouted at them that made them all look away but there was one person who looked at me still.

Raine's bloodshot eyes were filled with tears, they were trickling down her chin non- stop. Her cheeks were puffy as she wiped them with her handkerchief and she looked surprised to see me. Her tangled locks couldn't be messier when she tried to pat it down to settle. They continued to pat her back even though she already stopped crying.

"Saccharide..." the girl called and attempted to approach me but the guy with the earphones around his neck stopped her and brought her back to her seat.

"Klavier, can you please not join in?" she shyly pushed him away before trying to stand up again to approach me but this time, other people kept her in her seat.

"Reyrey..." the boy who she called Klavier, sighed and took out a scrunchie from his pocket. He gathered all her hair in one hand before tying her hair in a high ponytail. "You're not going to approach this son of a bitch after what happened?"

Finally! There is someone who gets the real concept of this whole thing.

"He rejected your declaration of love- just like any other girls back then" Klavier furiously lectured her. "That's like a bummer, girl"

"He rejected me many times. It's not new to me" Raine looked at me and smiled sadly. "I'm not going to give up on him" I sighed and proceeded to my seat which was "fortunately" just right in front of the girl's desk.

The commotion did not stop when my behind touched the comfortable base of my seat instead; the babblings forced their way in my ears. I pulled out my phone off my pocket, opened it while I forcefully ignored the disturbing wallpaper.

Man! I got to change this...

"Saccharide..." I turned around to see the girl's gaze at me, begging me to talk to her, but all I could do is to stare at her lifelessly.

"I saw him-!" Klavier shouted with visible frustration on his face. His stares stabbed daggers at me before looking at the girl waiting for him to continue his sentence. "-he threw your wedding rings in the trash bin in the boy's comfort room."

Wedding rings...?

"The seed packets...?" I carelessly muttered, which I thought I only had said in my mind.

"Let me remind you once again about the tradition in this town, okay? Because you might be dreaming, dear," the boy's soft voice made me realize that I was right about him being gay. "The tradition is that the 'boy' asks the girl for love. Not the girl to the boy."

"You don't know how you sound like an immature sexist right now, Klavier," the girl taunted and looked at me. "I already accepted his love. It's his turn to accept mine."

Everyone sighed and gave up encouraging Raine to give up. I smirked at their pathetic faces and turned to face the front until I felt a pair of arms wrapped around my shoulders. The faint smell of carnations came back like I was in that garden once more; I looked at my side and saw the girl with closed eyes and a smile on her face.

"I will wait for you tonight. I love you," she whispered before giving me a soft peck on the cheek. She got back in her seat and I was paralyzed for some reason. No! I didn't like it, but it's like something came back when she did that. I just don't know what it is.

There was about her that I couldn't touch. Why was she writing that poem in the first place? I'm a poem expert, but that poem was terrible. And everyone was supporting her to love this boy while, in fact, it was a fatal mistake.

The class started when our professor in Literature named Edward Broshe came into the room with a look of confusion. The young man in his twenties looked around with his blue eyes and scratched his well-groomed black hair before sighing. He probably noticed the pathetic look plastered on the faces of my classmates.

"Raine, can you please pass the poem you wrote for Saccharide?" the teacher requested and then I heard a desk shifted behind me.

"I'm sorry Sir Broshe, I- I threw it away," Raine explained as her voice quivered. "I'll just pass it tomorrow" The male smiled brightly and nodded before gesturing his hands to make the girl seat. Her seat shifted again, indicating she sat down, but another sound of a chair shifting boomed across the room.

"Sir Broshe. I'm the one who threw it, not Raine," a familiar soft voice exclaimed. I turned around to see Klavier's sadly eyeing the floor while fidgeting his fingers.

I expected that the teacher would send him to the Guidance Office, but he smiled again and said he understood before looking at me with his smile turned into a frown. Now, I understand why he understood...

"Make sure you see me after school tomorrow, Aksenov," he said and took his books out of his bag.

"R u crazy? R u crazy? R u crazy? R u crazy? Must be stupid if you think that we could start again!"

The class went on about grammar and shit but I couldn't care less about the damn babblings of that teacher. I was chewing the end of my pen while listening to music when I felt someone tapping my shoulder.

I ignored the tapping until my music was cut off and my earphones were pulled from behind. Opening my eyes, I turned my head behind me and saw her once again.

"Are you mocking me?!" I whisper- shouted, but then she pointed behind me. I turned around and saw our teacher with his arms crossed.

"Care to explain?" Sir Edward questioned while looking at the both of us, mostly at me. I was about to exit the room and attend the guidance lecture when Raine pushed me back in my seat.

"What the-" I glared at her but she smiled which made me feel... almost strange uncomfortable way.

"I got you," she whispered with a smile.

"Sir Broshe, I was listening to music and-" she giggled nervously, "... You see... Saccharide was trying to make me stop and listen to the lesson..." she explained making awful hand gestures to match her disgusting lies, I rolled my eyes and let her keep talking shit about herself.

The teacher looked at me and asked if she was stating the truth. I, as a very truthful asshole of an angel, shook my head while looking at the girl's expression.

"No..." I straight up said before looking at the teacher again. Our teacher raised his eyebrow and looked at the girl again then back at me." Hahahahaha! Come on Saccharide... I even said that our teacher is very boring... Oopsss," she clumsily lied while patting the top of my head.

She purposely blurted out those words then covered her mouth with both hands. The teacher did not react although, she just insulted him instead, he sighed and patted Raine's shoulder.

"I know you are protecting him, but I just wish you know your limits, Raine," he calmly smiled at her. She just smiled bag and grabbed her bag to leave before looking at me with her sad eyes.

"Sorry, Sir... But even death is not a limit in loving Saccharide..." she said in front of the class that made my classmates look at me with such death stares. My eyes were widened after what she said and my breathing shallowed as the environment around me became blurry.

"Excuse me..." she said with a sad smile on her face. Everyone looked at her with pity, while the others looked at me as if I was the devil. Well, they're right.

My heart skipped a bit when she looked at me with a smile. With that, I somehow felt guilty... No! She started it! And she's going to have to take responsibility for it. Guidance is one way to pay for it.

I put back my earphones and turned on the music once again. The melody of the song along with its beat eradicated all the sounds of their pity judgments towards me.

So what did she need now? The sympathy so I could say yes to her lousy confession.

"You don't understand there's no second chance for us, baby..."

The music says it all...

Her love should be dedicated to someone else who needs it. And this boy is out of the option, he doesn't want love. He only wants the game of love. It's a game that never ends, but not until he finds his true love.

"Is this a game so, why are you trying to play me?"

The door creaked when she slid it open to leave; she looked at me once more, while I looked her in the eyes instead of just avoiding it.

"So, I'm gonna go..."

The door creaked again when she slid it closed. That's when my brain annoyingly preserves the image of her eyes. Her eyes shone as tears once again well up like waterfalls, sending crystal droplets rolling down her chin.

"I'm not gonna stay and watch you cry... Cause I'm hurting baby... Hurting baby!"

Stupid song!

Stupid angel conscience!

I grabbed my bag and stood up. The thunderous sound of my desk chair grinding on the floor as I moved grabbed the whole class' and the teacher's attention.

"Look what you did..."

I muttered the last part of the song before unplugging it on my way to the door. My eyes focused on the door; I couldn't care less where to put it so, I just plunged it deep inside my pants pocket.

"What do you think are you doing, Mr. Heinz?" The teacher asked angrily. I paused for a moment and glared the shit out of him. I can see the fear in his eyes so, being an asshole, I smirked as I approached him slowly.

"Just being responsible... Mr. Broshe..." I replied with a pout with begging eyes. I couldn't help but smirk again when he showed a disgusted aura towards me.

I gave him and the whole class one last smile before leaving the classroom, dead silent. All I have to do now is to find the girl and explain that she has no chance.

"Now. where are you, Raine...?" I searched the floor that I was on and she didn't seem to be in one of the rooms. Laughing at myself, I felt kind of dumb when I realized I was stressing myself with nonsense.

She was protecting me?

Heh...

She's making herself bleed without a bandage.

That's what's happening here.

While patrolling along the halls, I saw an old man carrying a bucket of water and mop. I rolled my eyes and approached him, hoping that she saw the girl. I didn't need to describe her further because she turned out to be quite popular around.

"Oh Raine..." his old cracked voice made him difficult to understand, but I managed to make out his words. "The girl's weird sometimes. I remember her rummaging through the trash bins last February."

The narration of the old man made me rolled my eyes. Before he could tell a whole novel, I stopped him, "Whoa... Hey Paps, I just want to know where the girl is" He smiled and pointed his fingers to the boy's comfort room nearby.

"Bu- but that's the boy's-" I stammered and pointed to where he was pointing. "I told you. She's a bit weird," he chuckled and walked away.

What was she doing in there?

"I saw him-" the voice of Klavier ringed in my ear. "-He threw your wedding rings in the trash bin in the boy's comfort room."

I walked closer to the entrance, already imagining what grotesque scene I will be witnessing inside that eerie space. My eyes squinted before they viewed the insides of the comfort room, it was normal. The trash bin was empty though, besides that, everything was normal.

"Crazy old man..."I muttered before facing the room's exit way. Before I could even take a step on my way out, a loud bang followed by a woman's voice was heard in one of the stalls. I didn't bother to know which one because seconds after the first stall opened, revealing Raine crying. In her arms is the bouquet of carnations with the seed packets.

I would've talked to her, but she didn't bother to notice me and ran away crying, hitting my shoulder with hers in the process. My senses were troubled that I didn't notice Klavier coming out of the same stall.

"What the hell...?" I said when I saw his unbuttoned messy uniform, his swollen cheeks, and his bloody lips. His lifeless eyes and sad frown told me that he wasn't happy about what happened between them inside.

He turned to me and did nothing but shoot daggers. Well, Action speaks for itself... The sound of the water splashed like waterfalls when he turned on the faucet and began washing his face. The more I stare at both of our reflections in the mirror, the more I see my appearance in him. His ash grey hair matched his knife-shaped earrings on his left ear.

"Aren't you going to follow her?" I asked with a taunting tone in my voice.

He dried his face with his sleeves before exiting the bathroom, not answering my questions. Before he could part ways with me, I grabbed his shoulders and asked more seriously, "What did you do to the girl?"

I can feel his tense loosen up when I asked the question. He shook my hands away from his shoulders before giving me an answer. "Why do you care? Even if I fuck here there...You won't ca-" His words weren't finished as my fist made contact with his nose.

I thought he was gay...

In a blink of an eye, he was on the ground with a bleeding nose. My reflexes acted on their own then I leaned closer to his bleeding fucked up face to whisper, "The girl's fucking mine, faggot"

The bell rang, indicating that it was the end of the day.

5:00...

Other students came rushing when they saw the scene, completely concern with Klavier. I walked away and had the urge to find the girl before I heard rapid footsteps behind me. I immediately turned around and dodged Klavier's raging fist. He kept being persistent and tried to punch me, but his flowing blood didn't help him at all.

"The nerve of you to say that Raine's yours. You didn't even answer her confession. You threw-" he complained while panting. The others were watching and guided him to maintain his balance.

"Yeah, yeah-" I rolled my eyes and walked away while waving my hands goodbye. "I threw the wedding rings. Blah. Blah"

"She dug them in the trash!" He continuously shouted as my distance between him slowly increases.

I have no intention of turning back.

"And she was hugging the rotten flowers inside the bathroom while crying," he shouted still.

"I don't know what's going on with your psychotic mind but can't you find her in your heart?" he finally yelled before all the noises around me were eradicated by the sound of a familiar voice.

"I'll wait for you tonight. I love you," Raine's voice rang in my ears. "Even death can't stop me from loving Saccharide."

I stopped and held my chest as an excruciating pain struck me when Klavier said those words. I looked out the building's window to gasp for her. My eyes widened and the only thing they saw is Raine running towards the garden with the flowers tightly grasped in her arms.

What the hell is this feeling?

It hurts, but when she came to view, it stopped.

My phone rang as the name of Phoenix popped on the black screen, "Massacre... It's already 10 minutes-" he paused, "-where are you and the girl?" I only said a few words as I kept watching Raine weep in the carnation filled garden. "Cancel. I can't go."

"Yeah, you will expect me tonight, Raine Aksenov," I smirked.

Expect me to be at my worst...
