Damn it. Didn't have luck in finding something really interesting in the history books. While I understand better how necromancy has developed in this world, it failed to distract me from my problem. I hope there will be something interesting enough very soon since I already have clues on that massive necromantic ritual works. I might as well write the short version of history here since I don't have anything better to do right now.
It is unknown when the necromancy first appeared. Some theories say it was discovered during the time of the ancient elven empire when the Sorcerer Kings ruled the world. Others say it was after the Great Awakening when we were liberated from the elven rule and modern nations were created. No one can say for sure as many records were destroyed and lost over the ages and not even the ones we have are 100% reliable since no one knew about the existence of Ti'Haarans (I should use Tigrans since at this point everyone are calling them that) until recently.
What is known is, due to necromancy being illegal for most of history, necromancers have organized themselves into cults worshipping the so-called Goddess of Death. A nickname I am sadly too familiar with it. There is a confusion on whether she is an actual god like the twin elven gods said to have created the world or if she is just a person whose powers have been blown out of proportions. Anyway she is said to have been the first person who discovered necromancy. Initially a normal mage she had awakened her power during a great battle. It is said she had radiated with heavenly light as every dead soldier rose up and fought again and again until there was nothing but her and the undead army. As she tried to save the dying soldiers, she had imbued them with the same magic turning them into first ghouls.
As the news of this spread across the land she was imprisoned and experimented on. Somehow she was either convinced or put under some sort of control and she returned to the battlefield. Again and again she won battles regardless of enemy strength. She was even able to teach this to her fellow apprentices. People jealous and scared of her power were worried that some day these necromancers would become too powerful so after the first necromancer died on the battlefield, her apprentices were hunted down and necromancy became outlawed. Of course there are variations on this legend and no known records confirms the existence of this person.
Whatever the actual truth was, the necromancy was outlawed until 17 years ago. After the devastation of the Archmage's Rebellion the nations were left in bad shape scrambling however they can to stabilize the economy. One goblin factory owner had an idea of using the undead in his factory. No one had expected such great results from this idea. In fact several necromancers ended up on pyres for no reason other than the success that they brought. Thankfully the city state of Krid stepped in and created the treaty according to which the necromancy was legalised and laws were implemented so that undead don't replace the living for work. This is why necromancers like Galadea and her cohorts bring huge wealth to the colony. Shame I am keeping the secret about my powers for obvious reasons. Otherwise this could have been a great way to earn money.
Also we might get new additions to the company soon. Cass has managed to convince the twins to follow her. Right now they have enrolled with the cavalry squadron currently in training outside Metzaca. I must say I was surprised to hear they were easily convinced. Of course the truth was more complicated than expected. You see they were already lost on what to do next. Apparently experiencing a suicide drone strike makes you reconsider your life choices. The reason why Aragonder knew where the twins were is because he offered them a place to stay in Metzaca as a favour from one noble to another. They waited for him, but he was arrested before he could arrange more for them.
They truly haven't expected Cass to show up in his stead. They might not have even trusted her enough if she didn't have a surprise for them. One of two family swords that the twins had sold when they left Metzaca. The same sword that was in Cass' office all this time. The Merchant's Guild had bought the swords and Cass was intrusted with one of them. Of course the guild still doesn't know that they belong to a noble family. Otherwise this would have been much harder. In exchange for Cass' support and eventual return of the other sword, twins will serve in the cavalry as part of their reformation. I hope this works. Otherwise we might be in more trouble than expected if this ever gets out.
