Chereads / I Made Him an Alpha / Chapter 3 - Welcome to New Orleans

Chapter 3 - Welcome to New Orleans

A week has passed and we're now settled into our new home. It was a small family home for my dad and I, nothing big. It had a nice brick exterior and a warm feeling when you walked in.

It was home.

My first day of school was today and it was the middle of my senior year. A few more months and I don't have to deal with this anymore. Having magic gave me a huge advantage though. Everything is less sucky when you have magic.

I got up at 6:30 to get ready for school. Took a burning hot shower and brushed my teeth. I played with my hair a little and applied some makeup.

I put on some black, high-waisted jeans and a fall of the shoulder top that ties in the front. I slide on my rings and choker with some other jewelry. I went for a really dark look, which is what I look like on an everyday basis. Kids like to call me emo, but I call it fashion.

Before I head downstairs, I go through my knife collection to see who I wanted to bring to school today.

"Which one of you wants to come to school with mommy today?" I wait for a while until I realized that they couldn't talk back to me. I just close my eyes and pick randomly. My finger lands on a pretty, needle point knife. My dad customized it for me on my thirteenth birthday. It was pretty, but lethal. Her name was Suzie.

I'm not crazy. I name all my knives.

I secure her on my lower calf, inside my jeans and run downstairs.

"Morning, pops," I say giving him a hug, when I see him sitting at the dinner table, in front of loads of food.

"Morning, princess," he says and kisses my forehead. When mom died, dad made sure to keep up with family breakfast. He never left me to mourn alone. He always checked on me and stuck by my side and I love my dad for that.

"Are you ready for your first day of school in New Orleans," my dad asks.

"I don't know, but I'll be fine," I say, stuffing my face with food.

"Come on. It's New Orleans. Where else would you rather be," my dad says ruffling my hair.

"Dad, stop. I don't want to have to redo it," I say laughing.

"I can do pigtails for you again."

"No! Why is that the only hairstyle you knew how to do when I was little," I say pouting.

"It's the only thing I learned. When I tried to curl your hair, you wouldn't let me," dad says pouting.

"Because you burned my hair the first time you did it!"

"Fine. Since you want to be mean, I'm done with this conversation. Lets go drop you off to school, so I can be rid of you."

I just laugh at the face dad makes and run after him to the car.

We get to the school 20 minutes later and there were kids everywhere.

"Alright, princess. Time for you to go. Don't bring home any boys. They will be shot dead before they even enter the house."

My dad says all of this with a smile on his face. It was really creepy.

"You know me dad. I don't even care about boys. Just school for me," I say back, but he doesn't look like he believes me.

"Not with my genes running through your veins. It might be an insult if no boys came up to talk to you," my dad says kind of serious.

"Ok, bye Mr. Cocky." I get out of the car and head towards the school building.

"Wait, Anne. You didn't want to cover that up," he says, referring to my eyes.

Ok, funny story.

When I was 11, my dad was taking me to school, but before we got there, he stopped in the middle of the road.

"Dad what are you doing," I screamed as a bunch of cars were honking at us. He started cursing and made a U-turn, away from my school.

"We have to go to the store, princess. Dad has to tell you something very important."

"I'm gonna be late for school, dad!" He just ignored me. By the time we got to the store, dad was sweating heavy. You could see it through his button up shirt. I could tell he was nervous.

"Put these glasses on," he says, passing one of his pairs to me. They were slipping off my face, so I had to keep pushing them up. We got out the car and he took my hand, rushing into the store.

Then, he took me into.... The. Pad. Section.

Ok, I didn't know what was going on back then because I was never taught what having your period meant. So, my dad spent the whole day explaining to me what a period was and what happens when a witch gets their period.

Their eyes turn purple for a whole week, so I guess that's a good thing because it's a warning signal. I didn't go to school and bleed through my pants, which would have led to embarrassment.

"They can pass as purple contacts. People are oblivious these days," I tell my dad. We wave goodbye.

This was my first time ever switching schools. I'm used to the same neighborhood, same people, same environment. It became my routine, but now it's changed.

I was ok with moving because I like going on missions with my dad. They're really fun and it's like I'm in charge of justice, but having to go to a new school is a different situation.

As I walk into school, people eyed me up and down. I must be dressed pretty 'revealing'. Showing my shoulders in public must be 'really distracting' because they couldn't seem to get their eyes off of me.

I finally make it to the front office. There's a teenage girl sitting at the front desk. She was sharpening her claws with a nail filer and not paying any attention to who was coming in and out of the office. When I cleared my throat, she finally looked up.

"Yes, how may I help you," she asks, a little rudely, like I interrupted her 'important' business.

"Can you direct me to the principals office?"

"He's in a meeting," she answers bluntly.

"Well, tell him Anne Micheal is here. He'll want to see me." She was starting to get on my nerves.

I have a short temper.

"I can't interrupt his meeting. You'll have to wait," she says growling. I was surprised she could growl with her being human. Must be a real bitch.

I roll my eyes and see a door that says principals office. I start walking towards it.

"Wait, you can't go in," she starts racing me towards the door, but I get there first. I open the door and walk in. The girl follows behind me.

"I'm so sorry, Principal Vincent. She just walked in and I didn't have time to stop her."

"Anne! Good to see you." He gets up and comes to hug me. "Why didn't you tell me she was here sooner," he asks the girl.

"I- I'm sorry sir."

"You are forgiven," I tell her, with a fake smile.

"Niece, I haven't seen you in forever. Why didn't you come visit sooner." I take a look at the inside of the office to see that no one else was inside. She lied to me, so that she wouldn't have to do her job.

And you wonder why I hate mankind.

Christian Vincent was my mom's brother. My parents grew up here in Louisiana, but they moved when they were having me, to try to live in the less troubled area of the supernatural world. This side of the states can get really messy.

"I'm not just visiting," I tell him, watching the shocked expression grow on his face.

"Why didn't your dad tell me? We could have thrown a welcome party. Everyone has missed you guys so much."

"If he told you, then it wouldn't be a surprise. We've missed you guys, too. I can't wait to see the others."

"First period is in a couple of minutes. I don't want you to be late to class. Did you already get your schedule?" I shake my head no.

"Alright, I'll have Nadia pull it up for you." We exit the principal's office and Christian lets me wait in the front. I see the same girl from earlier come from behind the counter with a sheet in her hand.

"Here," she says, holding the paper in front of me to grab it.

"Break a nail," I tell her with a smile when I grab the paper. She makes a gasping noise, but I just walk away.

I look through my schedule of mainly electives because I've already gotten most of the credits I need to graduate. My first period was English, so I walked towards the opposite end of the school, hoping to find the classroom.

After awhile, I open the door to the classroom. There were students finding their seats and the teacher was on her computer doing I don't know what. I decided to just find a seat and not bring any attention to myself.

"Someone's sitting here," a boy that sat on the seat next to me said. He seemed kind of shy to say something to me. His hair was covering most of his face and I could see his eyes kind of poking out.

"Oh, ok. No pro-"

"Hey, your in my seat. Can you move your ass somewhere else?" I look up to see this other guy behind me. He was hellishly tall. His dark eyes were looking back at me and I'm sure if it were any other student, there would be shivers running down their spine.

But it didn't phase me.

"Actually. I think I like this seat. It's so warm and right by the window. You can see the board from here and I have an awesome partner," I say, smiling at the guy sitting next to me. He just nervously looked down at his desk.

"I'm going to tell you one more time, witch," He says, getting all close and personal. He was right in my face, whispering. His eyes started to glow. "Move."

"Your all bark and no bite. Your not the only one that can smell an animal when its close by. Now, please go find another seat. I would like to pay attention to the lesson of the day." I give him a bright smile and he just growls.

"Donaghy, can you please have a seat," the teacher in the front tells him. He obeys, but doesn't leave without an annoyed side glance.

"Great. Now he's going to be agitated all day." I looked over and saw no name running his fingers through his hair and letting it fall back onto his face in annoyance.

"What's the problem with your friend," I ask no name.

"Don always has a problem. He just seems even more aggravated today," no name says, rolling his eyes.

"I'm Anne," I introduce myself, hoping to find out his name so I could stop calling him no name.

"Alaric."
