Chereads / The Quest Giver / Chapter 39 - A Bad Day

Chapter 39 - A Bad Day

It was Friday, and the quests were going to be refilled.

Jerry was awoken by his parents at 7:30 AM, but to his unfortunateness, he was having a bad day, that meant that he would get annoyed easily.

"I don't wanna go to school.." Jerry mumbled a bit angrily as he got out of his bed, and began his day. Some other side of his was happy at the very least, because it was Friday at last, not that he did much on the days before Friday. Since Jerry lived close to the school, he found himself there pretty early, and just some minutes later, at 7:50 AM Quast arrived.

"Yo." Quast said.

"Man, I'm just not having it today." Jerry spoke a little bit annoyed. "For some reason I'm annoyed as hell, and don't want to do anything."

"Oh I've also had those days before, where I didn't want to do anything, and got very easily annoyed at the people around me. On those days I started quite a lot of arguments." Quast thought way back some months ago. "Well, I think I'll leave you alone for today then, but we're still doing the quests right? They're gonna refill today at 3:00 PM."

"Yeah." Jerry looked around the hallway before they were called, and had to go to the classroom.

After some time every student from the 10a was seated and the English teacher, Kyle Jackson handed out worksheets to everyone.

In the middle of the worksheet, Jerry just wasn't having it, and wondered why he had to do this meaningless stuff, even when the world was changing, he gripped his plastic pen, and started dragging it across the top corner of the worksheet until the paper tore a little bit, the plastic pen also cracked a bit, but it was still usable since Jerry was controlling his great physical strength.

The first 2 lessons were English and the next 2 were Literature. The timetable said that on the last day of the week they had 4 lessons, school was slowly returning to normal.

The first 2 lessons passed by moderately fast, not too slow, but also not too fast. Break time had come upon the students for the next 15 minutes, yet those 15 minutes felt like fleeting moments, because in the next moment everyone was in the classroom again.

The Literature lessons didn't begin with games, but with reading out of a textbook that the teacher handed out.

School ended at 11:25 AM, and everyone got out of there as fast as possible.

At home, Jerry didn't want to do anything, so he lied in bed for around an hour until he decided to refresh himself, and go outside to walk around the city, and probably look at some his favourite spots, one of which was the river that flowed through the old part of his city. However, he wasn't going to the river today, just some mindless walking around was what he was going to do.

It was pretty close to summer now, so the weather was pretty warm outside, and the mosquitoes were just starting to appear once again.

Jerry remembered when he still played soccer a few years ago when he was the age of twelve until his late thirteens, the place where he once played soccer was still there, so that meant he was going to go there.

After 3 minutes of walking down the asphalt streets he had arrived, and it seemed like there were already some people kicking the ball around on the grass, Jerry looked at the people that were older than him, but still probably not above 20, kicking the ball. They seemed like they were around the age of 19, maybe they were also reliving memories, Jerry thought. Soon, he turned his back, and started to walk away.

But the ball had different plans as it came flying towards his head with quite a lot of force behind it. If Jerry was still normal, and didn't have such high physical stats from the system, this shot would've hurt him pretty bad.

Yet here he stood, a soccer ball coming at him with the force of 19-year old's kick behind it. The impact was really anti-climactic since Jerry felt barely anything, but because he was having a bad day, he turned around a little angry, expecting an apology.

"Hey dude, watch where you're walking." A seemingly tall 19-year old came, with a long sleeved shirt, and track pants. His hair was also pretty brown, and his face, unshaven for what seemed like a few days.

Jerry already had the soccer ball in hand. "How was I supposed to watch out when my back was turned?" he said a little bit annoyed. "And you had the gull, the chutzpah to not even apologise?"

"Theres no reason for me to apologise." the unshaven 19-year old shrugged. "Just give me the ball."

This made Jerry really annoyed "There's no way that such obnoxious and arrogant people exist in real life." the ball fell down to the ground and he kicked it forwards.

No one had time to catch the ball as it made its way into the goal that was about 50 meters away with immense speed and power.

Jerry said nothing, and prepared to walk away. No one stopped him, and he made his way home, where he was going to relax for about an hour and a half, then go to the forest for the quests.

"That kid, he couldn't be any older than 16.." The 19-year old that was closest to the goal post when Jerry kicked the ball said. "If I tried to catch it, my hand would probably be stinging really badly right now."

"Jesus, is this also related to the 'Mana' thing?" "Because a supposed 16 year old shouldn't have such power." spoke the 19-year old who didn't apologize to Jerry. "Is the world changing for better or for worse."

"I've never seen you act like this." the person near the goal post spoke. "Did this event change your philosophy and morals?"

"True." said the other 19-year old who hadn't spoken a word until now.

"Man, I could really go for a cheeseburger right now." Jerry waited at home, until the clock hit 2:30 PM, he then decided it was time to go to the forest.

Quast was already there a few minutes earlier before Jerry arrived, and they instantly began the quests.
