Chereads / The Quest Giver / Chapter 40 - A New Weapon

Chapter 40 - A New Weapon

The forest was also starting to change a little bit, that meant that some of the future fruit from the trees were imbued with mana, and had special properties. But those new fruits wouldn't grow for at least a month or two.

Jerry was still having a mildly bad day, but it was not too bad now, since he didn't have school, and doing quests was something almost relaxing to him. He could do all the quests he currently was able to do without breaking a sweat.

[Defeat a fast slime]

[Difficulty : Very Easy][Rewards : 85 Experience]

The Very Easy quests were already done in just a minute, and this earned Jerry a sweet 850 Experience.

"The Very Easy quests always go by so fast." Jerry said.

"Yeah, now onto the next ones" Quast said quickly.

[Defeat a strong slime]

[Difficulty : Easy][Rewards : 310 Experience]

Those quests were also completed and 3100 Experience was rewarded.

"These also go by too fast." Jerry thought about his power for a second.

"Well yeah, cuz you're pretty strong." The Quest Giver replied.

[Defeat a horned goblin]

[Difficulty : Mediocre][Rewards : 2800 Experience]

"It's time." Jerry's Metal Sword was engulfed in the crimson red flames of his fire magic, and just 2 Mediocre quests later he got a level up. "Level 28, hell yeah. Just 2 more levels till I get another skill." he added 2 of his 4 Attribute points into Dexterity, and the rest 2 into Luck, since he hadn't given the Luck stat enough attention, but he was still getting Slimy hits from time to time.

Another 2 Mediocre quests later, and Jerry had 8100 Experience, just 600 more Experience for a level up.

"Alright here we go." Jerry readied up Slash and used his Fire Magic on the Metal Sword. Just as he disarmed the goblin something unexpected happened, as if everything slowed down, the sword that he was using shattered down the middle and 2/3rds of the blade lengthwise broke off. The status of the common Metal Sword changed to 'Broken' "..." Jerry looked at his broken sword and then at the goblin that also didn't have a weapon. "No way.." "Fuck." Jerry put away the broken sword in the Gear tab, because an idea had slipped into his mind, all in the span of these few seconds. "Guess I'll have to go martial arts style, even though I've never done martial arts." he thought and readied himself to punch something.

In an instant the goblin and Jerry crossed the distance between themselves, while Jerry was moving quite precisely, the green enemy was running almost barbarically. "I haven't thrown a punch against a creature since I got in a fight back in the 6th grade." his brain processed everything, and he threw a coordinated punch which struck the goblin in the face, it lost its balance a little bit. Jerry pushed it down to the ground with another punch, he quickly went on top of it, and summoned the broken sword from the Gear tab.

With what still remained of the sword's sharp side the goblin found itself without a throat in a few seconds. Everything just got too real.

A new window appeared.

[Monster Core(Rare)]

[A core dropped by a monster, can be used for a lot of stuff or be sold in the shop.]

"Wow, a new item." Jerry took heavy breaths as the gem-like core appeared in his hand. The core was entirely light gray with no coloured streaks running under it, the light coming from the sky above still reflected off of it, and it looked really beautiful. "Damn, that fight was too real." Jerry had the core in hand, and looked at it curiously, it was 3 centimeters in diameter, and it overall looked like a light grey old european cut diamond. "Imagine the colours of the Monster Cores represent my soul, and it was like really colourful before, and now it's just gray." Jerry laughed at his own joke a little bit before putting the Monster Core into the Item tab. "Alright, I'll need a new weapon."

"Yeah, you sure do, just like with the stick that you first used, you owe that Metal Sword a lot." Quast opened the Shop. "Do you want a sword again?"

"Yes." The shop opened infront of Jerry too. They sorted items by Weapons, and the price from Low to High.

[Coins : 2340][Sort Items by : Weapons][Price : Low to High]

[Iron Sword : Price : 200 Coins]

[Stronger Iron Sword : Price : 500 Coins]

[Metal Sword : Price : 1000 Coins]

[1/100...]

"I wonder if I can sell the broken Metal Sword?" Jerry opened the sell option, but quickly got rejected since broken items were unable to be sold.

The swords on the first page weren't interesting at all, so they turned to the next page.

[Gonasite Sword : Price : 1500 Coins]

[Harnessing Sword : Price : 2000 Coins]

[Mythril Sword : Price : 3000 Coins]

"'Gonasite', that sounds exactly like some metal I would've made back in kindergarten." Jerry said. "Let's look at it."

[Gonasite Sword(Uncommon)]

[+7 Strength]

[This sword is made from an orange metal compound that when melted turns into an amazing gray metallic colour.]

[Bonus : Whenever the sun is in the sky, this sword gains +4 Strength, and 2 Luck.]

"Cool, it has a built in bonus." Jerry read the description, and then they turned to the Harnessing Sword.

[Harnessing Sword(Rare)]

[+8 Strength]

[+3 Intelligence]

[This sword is made from an alloy of different relatively strong metals, when the properties of those metals come together, they can be given Mana to temporarily get stronger.]

[Sub-Skill : Imbuing the blade with enough Mana gives you +2 Intelligence, +2 Strength, and +1 Dexterity for 5 Minutes.]

[Permanent Bonus : After defeating 100 Enemies with the Sub-Skill active, the Harnessing Sword gains a permanent +2 Strength, +2 Dexterity, and +2 Intelligence]

"Oh wow, that's certainly a lot of effects." Jerry thought "Yep, I'm buying this one."

"You sure?" Quast asked, because he was required to.

"Yeah." Jerry gave an affirmitive. In the next moment 2000 Coins were drained from their balance, and in his hands Jerry held a sword. The length of the sword was certainly longer, and the width of the blade was smaller. In the middle of the guard that the sword had, there was a socket, just big enough for the light-gray Monster Core to fit in. "Cool, now I'm gonna embed this bad boy with the Monster Core."

The Harnessing Sword got an extra +3 Agility, +4 Strength, and +2 Endurance, but it gave no bonuses like the Mass Slime used to.

They both walked around, and found a place behind a bush where they dug a hole large enough to fit the Metal sword in, then they buried it. "It will forever rest in the forest, where it was used the most." Jerry almost shed a tear.

"Alright, now that I have this sword, I feel really strong, I bet I can take on a Hard quest." Jerry swung his new weapon around, the long metallic blade made the sword feel really complete.

"Yeah you can do a Hard quest, just not a max one of course. However, first you need to complete the left over Mediocres." Quast reminded.

Jerry poured in enough Mana into the Harnessing Sword for it to give the effect. With a third of his Mana gone, he also used his Fire Magic on the blade along with Slash.

Nevertheless the 3 max Mediocre goblins never stood a chance, and Jerry got a level up.
