The car was very silent. Breezy had fallen asleep again but, Mia couldn't sleep. After they had been woken up, the queens guards explained that they had made arrangements for them in the fairy kingdom. That was where they would find the first member of the prophecy. Mia really didn't understand how she was going to find them. She didn't comprehend how she could possibly be the angel for the job. Breezy shuffled in her sleep.
"That's why you're a dumb bitch." Breezy mumbled in her sleep. Mia held back a laugh, the drivers seemed unaffected. After a few hours, they finally arrived at the edge of the fairy kingdom.
They were stopped by some wolves, Mia had never seen wolves before or anyone from another kingdom. She peaked out the window curious but tried to look nonchalant and uncaring. The wolves were all big and stoic, she had expected as much. The sun had risen a few hours back and she could clearly see the annoyed looks on their faces.
"What is your business here?" A deep irritated voice asked the driver. Two of the others peered into all the windows. Mia looked blankly at the seat in front of her hoping to avoid eye contact.
"Our Queen sent us, the girls in the back have business here." The driver handed the wolf an envelope. The wolf glared at the driver but opened the letter anyway. He read the note, making different facial expressions, and then glanced back at Mia and smirked.
"Everyone knows that the prophecy is bullshit, but I'll play. The girls can chase their tails all over the kingdom, hell they can even go on pack lands. They won't find anything." He was laughing with his buddies as they let them through. The driver still seemed unaffected while Mia's face was hot. They were making fun of her, they had taken one look at her and decided she wasn't good enough. The drivers drove through the kingdom until they reached a town. The drivers drove down a very long dirt road until a huge house came into view. It wasn't the Queen's castle but it was still a very impressive building. The drivers stopped and got out, they started to take the girls luggage out of the car. Mia sighed and looked over at her friend. Mia started waking her friend with lots of complaining. When all the luggage and the girls were out of the car the driver took off.
"Well fuck you too," Mia mumbled under her breath. Breezy groaned, having just woken up she was grouchy. As Mia debated on what she was supposed to do, a woman came out.
"Welcome ladies, your queen has arranged for you to sleep in this packhouse. If you would follow me I can show you your rooms." Mia thanked the lady and started following along with Breezy who mumbled complaints about how heavy her stuff was. Mia thought the outside of the house was huge, but it was nothing compared to the inside. The outside looked like a old noble manor you would see in a historical drama, but the inside was decorated more modernly. Every room had giant televisions, even the refrigerator.
Breezy whistled. "Being rich is my kind of life." Mia laughed.
"Of course it is."
"I wouldn't have to work, there would always be food and I could make so many cookies. Plus all the makeup I want? Say less." Breezy exclaimed. Mia laughed again, she loved making cookies with Breezy, they always turned out perfect.
"You can make as many cookies here as you want, it would be a better use of your time anyway." The woman gave the girls a sideways glance. Breezy and Mia gave each other looks. They both stopped talking until they got to their rooms.
"Well, here we are." The woman left without letting the girls ask questions or even thank her. Breezy's and Mia's rooms were connected by a door and were identical. They were good-sized rooms with their own bathrooms. The rooms were darkly colored but the windows made the rooms bright.
"What was her problem?" Breezy scoffed.
"The guards at the edge of the kingdom did the same thing, they were real assholes not gonna lie." Mia rolled her eyes. "They don't believe in the prophecy and think we are wasting our time." Breezy took her chance to roll her eyes.
"Wolves am I right?" They both laughed because there wasn't a way for them to know how wolves normally acted. The two unpacked their things and laid around. They did not know if they were allowed to walk around or if someone was gonna come to get them. They waited till dark but hunger got the best of them. They left their rooms and hunted for someone or the kitchen, whichever came first. They ended up finding the kitchen first but there was someone inside.
"Oh, hi. You're the guests right?" The guy said, he looked to be the same age as the girls.
"Yes, and we are starving," Breezy said looking around the kitchen. The guy laughed.
"Dinner was at seven, I guess no one told you. Well, we never usually have leftovers so you'll have to cook something up yourselves." He grinned sheepishly.
"Good to know, glad we were well informed." Breezy rolled her eyes and Mia gave her a playful slap on her arm.
"Well, who showed you to your rooms?"
"We don't know some lady. She was very grouchy." Mia said shrugging.
"I figured our Luna would've shown you around but she isn't known to be grouchy." The guy looked thoughtful. "Well, I'm Issac, if you need anything let me know. I'm usually outside somewhere but you can always ask around." The girls thanked him and started to cook. They ended up deciding on chicken burgers and potatoes. Issac stayed in the kitchen and watched asking them lots of questions.
"So why are you two here exactly?" Issac asked, chewing on a piece of chicken the girls gave him.
"If we told you, you would laugh," Mia stated remembering the welcome they had received.
"Nah, it's gotta be important if the queen sent you here." Issac looked at them with curiosity.
"No one else here seems to think so." Breezy scowled. Issac looked confused but still waited to be told. Mia sighed.
"We are here because our queen's seer had determined that I was a part of the prophecy and I had to start a quest to find the others." Mia played with a piece of food that was sitting on the counter, not wanting to look into his eyes. Issac stared at Mia for a while and then glanced at Breezy looking for any sign of a joke.
"Wait. so you believe all that stuff? About champions and world peace, yadda yadda yadda?" Mia sighed yet again. Breezy looked at Issac saltily.
"Yes, got a problem?" She glared at him.
"No, we were just always told that it was bullshit. Demons and Angels getting along? Werewolves and vampires? Fairies? Humans even. doesn't it seem a little far-fetched to you?" Issac asked choosing his words carefully.
"No one said it would be easy. But when has a seer been wrong?" Mia said, finally looking at Issac.
"Isn't part of the prophecy a possible huge failure that will lead to an all-out war?" Issac questioned.
Mia grimaced, "Unfortunately yes, but hopefully not." Breezy answered. "I hope that you understand that the prophecy will see itself through whether you believe in it or not."
"Yeah, I guess. I also suppose that if one lucky wolf doesn't go with you then the second option is a guarantee." Issac sighed.
"Most definitely," Mia agreed. "I want to avoid a war as much as possible."
"Yeah, A major war would be bad for us since we have to protect the fairies as well as ourselves." Issac looked thoughtful.
"Do you have any idea why your entire pack refuses to accept the prophecy?" Mia asked curiously, Breezy was done making the food so they were both eating now.
"I'm guessing it has something to do with pride. Why would an all-out war breakout when we should be able to keep the enemies at bay? Something dumb like that I'm guessing" Issac smirked. "We wolves are very strong." Breezy rolled her eyes but didn't make a comment. She looked at Mia and mouthed, 'Toxic Masculinity'. Mia laughed while Issac just looked confused.
"What's that?" That made Breezy laugh.
"Don't worry about it big guy." Issac pouted.
"Well I'm leaving, I have better things to do than getting made fun of by a couple of imaginative angels," Issac smirked playfully letting the girls know he was joking. After Issac left the girls quickly finished their food and headed back up to their rooms. They couldn't imagine being couped up again but they didn't know what else to do. They decided to just go to sleep and figure out what to do in the morning.
