Chapter 7 - His Weapon of Choice!

At this moment, Officer Kal Bos had calmed himself and was wiping the tears of joy from his eyes. Then, he said, "If that's the case then… You'd be going solo!" the old man took a deep breath before he continued, saying, "That's if no one would join you in your adventure."

Officer Kal Bos, Guild Leader Jini, and the other hunters gaze towards the interns—checking if there was anyone who wants to join Corvus. Unfortunately, no one among the interns moved an inch and indicated that they want to join Corvus in his own adventure.

He ignored their gaze and glanced, coldly, towards Officer Kal Bos and said, "I am going alone. Is there a problem with it?"

Officer Kal Bos chuckled and shook his head in response. Then, he said, "If ever you survive this exploration mission, I would give you a special reward."

Corvus nodded with a smirk in response. Thus, Guild Leader Jini and Officer Kal Bos continued the briefing. The other interns were asked to form a team, whom they would be with on their expedition.

Each team should have three members, minimum, and had one hunter with Blessing as their leader. As for Corvus, he was going to explore on his own, without the presence or lead of an experienced hunter.

It was not because he was confident, knowing that he had a Blessing, but because he knew that it was ideal for him to explore alone and experience the harshness of a planet from Paradiso at this point rather than experiencing it later on when his life was the one that was really on the line.

Besides, at the start of the orientation or simulation, it was clearly indicated that experience is the best way to learn. Experiencing how harsh a planet in Paradiso, first hand, would give him a rough idea about his actual strength and the nature of a planet in Paradiso.

At the same time, it would give him a chance to adjust and be able to adapt to the level of his awareness that is needed to survive in Paradiso. Hence, if he wanted to survive longer from being a hunter, the path he chose was the best option.

After the teams were established, they were lead by officer Kal Bos to the weaponry area for them to select their weapon of choice. For some reason, Corvus was attracted to a black bladed machete—the only non-energy powered weapon.

In the end, he chose two of the said machete and a beam handgun. The reason for this was simple. He was the cook at their house, making him familiar and comfortable in wielding knives. Since the said machete is of the shortest available weapon—close to the length of a knife, he chose it without much thought.

As for the pistol, he only got one for contingency—in the case that his two black bladed machetes broke. Truth be told, he had no experience using any gun or beam swords.

It's true that it would be the perfect or the ideal time to learn or familiarize himself with using a gun. But, he chose to go with what he was comfortable to wield because he had no assurance that he would be able to go back to the weapon selection part and change his weapon.

"Good choice!" Guild Leader Jini praised behind him. Corvus turned around and glanced towards her as she continued, saying, "Unfortunately, you don't have a blessing."

Guild Leader Jini tapped his shoulder and left with a grin on her face. The interns on her team followed behind her, carrying rifle beams with them.

When they left the room, Corvus could only shake his head and take a deep breath. Then, he murmured to himself, "Taunt all you want. I won't be shaken by your words! After all... I am always a step away from my own grave after these few days."

He also left the weapon area afterward and went to the training area. Fortunately, it was empty because everyone was eating their meal. Hence, Corvus had it for himself and tried swinging his black bladed machete towards a dummy target.

At first, his strikes were awkward, and was only able to deal with a few dents and scratches to the metal dummy target. After a few hours of trial and error, he was able to establish a comfortable strike that was able to pierce, an inch deep, through the dummy's side.

The glee brought by his achievement made him sat on the floor—leaving his black bladed machete stuck into the dummy's body. Pair it with his wet from sweat body, he resembled someone who had just successfully finished his work out or exercise for that day.

He remained seating for a few minutes before he decided to take a rest by trying to fire his beam handgun at the training area's firing range. But before he was able to stand, someone entered the close combat training area and caught his attention.

The one who entered the close combat training area was one of the male hunters from Athorn Guild who had long black hair—long enough to cover his left eye. He was speechless as he stared at the exhausted Corvus.

"Are you okay?" he asked as his attention was shifted to the dummy in front of Corvus with the black bladed machete stuck on its side. The black paint on its body was filled with scratches, especially on the sides.

"I am alright, Senior!" Corvus said whilst forcing out a smile after he also stole a glance at his practice dummy. "I am just exhausted. That's all."

"I see..." The man said as he walked towards Corvus' practice dummy. When he was on the striking range, he sent a punch to the dummy that made Corvus remember Ladal's punch. However, unlike Ladal's punch, the man's fist didn't land on the practice dummy.

That said, a hole was made in the dummy—right in front of the man's fist. The hole was irregular and there were hints of bluish-white around it. Before Corvus could gasp in amazement, the bluish-white thing quickly spread even further to the body of the practice dummy, only stopping before the blade of Corvus' machete.

At that moment, Corvus felt the temperature around him, suddenly, became cold as the bluish-white part of the practice dummy emitted a faint smoke as cracks appeared from it. And in the next second, the bluish-white part burst, consequently splitting the practice dummy into half.

As blocks of ice fell near Corvus, the man retracted his fist and said, coldly, "You have a long way ahead of you, young hunter!"
