"Pak! Pak! Pak!"
Several crackling sounds caught his attention that originated from the sparks that escaped through the trunk of the tree that he sliced into half. In the next second, the sparks became stronger exponentially as if a huge amount of electricity was about to burst.
Reactively, Corvus took a few steps away from the trunk of the tree in order to avoid being electrocuted. However, even though he had reached his estimated safe distance, he heard a weaker crackle that made him glance around--anxiously searching for its origin.
When he glanced towards the ground, he was able to catch a glance of his Hunter's Blade which he used to slice the tree into half. It was covered by a black gooey liquid--seemingly the sap of the black rubbery tree, and it emitted weak sparks that consequently made his machete resemble a taser with a weak energy charge.
"The gravity and magnetic field on this planet are similar to planets in the Universe of Avalon. But... The electricity flows from the soil to the trees and other living things like water!" he said confidently, like a scientist who had just made a groundbreaking discovery.
That said, despite knowing the electrically related threats, he continued to observe the trunk of the tree that was bursting out of electricity. Fortunately, his awareness remained at its maximum, consequently allowing him to spot a group of firefly looking insects that emitted a dim glow in their body.
These insects rushed towards the halved tree and bathed into the electricity that was being emitted. Consequently, the glow on the insects' body started to become brighter--strong enough to reveal a netted pattern that the explorer bots had once encountered.
Corvus forced out a smile as he witnessed how his experiment turned from discovery to potential source of tragedy. That said, Corvus started running deeper into the forest--away from the firefly looking insects.
"This is not good!" he said with a terrified look on his face, "If the black trees get destroyed because of combat... It would attract the dangerous beasts lurking in this forest! If that happens, we'd be reduced into ashes before we ever get a clue about the dungeon on this planet."
Fortunately, his path deeper into the forest had been smooth. He encountered some of the firefly looking insects and the electrically charged snakes, but he had avoided them easily by taking a detour or utilizing other paths.
When he was just around half a kilometer to the foot of the mountain--where the hamster beasts were supposed to appear, he spotted a wolf looking beast several meters ahead of him. He abruptly halted his advance and hid behind the black tree.
"Shit!" He cursed whilst trying to keep his voice as silent as possible, "Don't tell me that I need to fight that freaking beast? I won't last a second against it! And... Orientation my ass! This is more like virtual training!"
He gripped to his Hunter's Blades and bit his lips. He starred daggers towards the wolf looking beast and said, "It seems like I have no choice! I wanted to use it against those hamster freaks but... If I can't take care of this wolf, how could I face those hamster beasts!"
With a tight grip on his machetes, he slashed the trees along his way--making a diagonal line further to the left, away from the wolf looking beast. As the upper half of the trees fell down, the lower part of the trees started to burst--releasing sparks that grew stronger.
The wolf looking beast had been alarmed by this event. It howled loudly to the point that it echoed through the forest. At the same time, streaks of electric current rose from the ground and dissipated a feet before it reaches the peak of the black trees..
Luckily, Corvus was out of its range. That said, he noticed the wolf looking beast moving towards the direction of the tree stumps. Hence, he halted cutting more trees as he started going even further to the left, trying to run away from the area of effect of the 'electric field' of the wolf looking beast.
"That should keep that damned beast busy!" he said whilst his face wore a frown. "I hope that it would keep him entertained 'till it's time to go back!"
Truth be told, the briefing in which Corvus had participated earlier, only indicated the potential threats they might face or encounter in the said forest of Planet Tordha. However, other than being able to pass through the area where the hamster looking beasts were located, information about their mission or goals were vague and was not explained during the discussion.
Hence, Corvus assumed that the information would only be revealed if he had taken the path of joining a team that was guided by a hunter. It was also probably the reason why he did not experience any pauses for some kind of explanations since the last one--when he chose his weapon.
That said, he knew that their goal was somehow related to gathering information about what lies beyond the point where the explorer bots could not explore. It must be related to looking or searching for clues about the Dungeons located at planet Tordha.
Thus, he knew that inorder for his 'mission' to be success, he must be able to, at the least, explore past through the hamster looking beasts. And at the same time, he must be able to return back and report every single information that he would be able to record or obtain.
That is why... Exploring the forest should not be his only goal. He should also, at the least, incorporate on how he would be able to return to the plain, alive.
Corvus swung his Hunter's blades to remove the black gooey liquid on its blades. Then, he shook his head and wore a huge grin on his face.
"Using these magical trees to my advantage? I did not know I was this crafty!" He chuckled as he stared forward, filled with focus and killing intent.
