Chapter 5 - Red Carriages

Before long, dozens of carriages were starting to line up outside the entrance of the academy.

To say Silverdew Academy was being meek is a stretch. They loved being flamboyant and did not hide their wealth. Starting from the headmasters reaching all through a good number of its students.

Thus was the same with their means of transportation

The carriages were undoubtedly eye catching with their bright red color which gave the impression of calling for attention, and its top that was adorned with stones and rocks that looked like jewels of the colors blue and gold. Even the men and horses who brought the carriage in had their fair share of adornments.

Zhu Ling was dumbstruck as she saw the carriages draw closer to them.

She knew that the academy enjoyed gratifying themselves with materialistic objects, but this time it was as if they took it up to another level.

"This Yu Xing brings this much concern?" Mumbling to herself, she began to recall the information she had listened in on yet nothing springs to mind that called for this much attention.

"Look! Its so majestic! Silverdew academy really does not let one down"

"Red just like the royal color. If were anyone else, they would have been reprimanded by the royal family"

"Right but we aren't just anyone else"

"This is only something those low breeders can dream to acquire"

Zhu Ling sneered when she heard the remarks that were coming out from the students around her. These people loved ridiculing others so much that they themselves failed to see they were the same in the eyes of others.

Ignoring the useless banter occurring in her surroundings, she placed her attention back at the dozen of carriages. She was probably the only one who was so laid back and didn't show any form of excitement but it didn't matter to her.

It was always the same anyway.

"Everybody listen here"

A man who garbed himself with a guards uniform standing up straight like a plank with both his hands clasped behind him at the center of the two large doors of the hall, drew the attention of the students present the moment he spoke.

Zhu Ling recognised this person.

The middle aged man who was exuding a combative aura was Wan Cheng.

Wan Cheng previously worked as a professor in the academy. Although she could not recall which sect he was in and didn't know much information about him, she was sure that he was one of those who were feared.

In spite of the fact that he was already middle aged, his imposing aura and presence had not lessened one bit. In actuality, his age was like an added factor into his formidable appearance and therefore sent shivers down ones spine.

Her thoughts proved to be right as the moment the words left his mouth, everyone went silent.

Wan Cheng looked at the chaotic assembly of students in front of him and his brows furrowed seemingly irritated.

"What a bunch of juveniles, is this how Silverdew academy taught you all to be?"

Even though his tone was not loud, every word he uttered was heard distinctly through everyones ears causing all those who were present to tense up and form their own orderly groups.

When Wan Cheng saw the flustered movements of the students, his furrowed brows loosened up as he cleared his throat and began his speech.

"You are all aware of todays events. I won't need to brief you with what you can and can't do as I am assuming you all are sensible enough to be cognisant of those things yourselves." Wan Cheng paused and looked at the faces of those before him.

"In groups of ten, I want each of you to suitably enter the carriages without any unnecessary uproars. Those of you who are able to enter, that's your luck. For those of you who aren't, go back in your dorms. I do not wish to spend needless time here organising you lot. So be independent and don't dawdle."

Wan Cheng walked towards the side as he spoke but did not loose his eye contact with those who were at the front lines.

"Those who are included in the exclusive list shall be patient and await their turn until all the commotion has stopped and carriages are filled"

As he placed himself in a space where no one would bother him, he took a deep breath and nodded slightly

"You may begin"

As soon as he let out those words, the students who were grouped up walked up to the carriages in a form that was quite amusing.

Zhu Ling was chuckling to herself as she watched the group of students comically make their way towards the carriages in a form that although was not running, showed a sense of panic and fret. They could not run and create havoc, but they did not want to miss this chance as well.

This conflicting thought that danced around in their minds made it difficult for them to remain composed and the nervousness of a couple of students began to show.

Shaking her head while looking at the departing group, she began to remember the time when she was introduced and enrolled herself into the academy.

In a short time, a couple of people were able to fill in the empty carriages. Those who remained, looked dejected but still slowly made their way back to their dorms as was instructed to them by Wan Cheng.

After Wan Cheng gave his guards a couple of whispered instructions, he walked back towards the center of the doors and looked at the scarcely scattered group of people.

"Excellent. You all shall follow me"

He only mentioned once before turning on his heels and heading towards the direction of another similarly colored carriage. Only this one had a statue of a qilin overhead in the color gold.

Zhu Ling raised her brows as she looked at the qilin that was sitting motionlessly at the roof of the carriage before she sat herself inside and adjusted her surroundings.

She did not know what it was but she felt that there was something interesting that would happen during the entrance exam, and because of this she had now a slight expectation of the day that was about to start.
