Chapter 4 - Rankings

"Useless. The fact that they didn't enter during the duration of the school year proves that their talent isn't worth much" Someone from a crowd of 4 men voiced out their opinion in a tone that seemed to beg for attention.

Zhu Ling looked at the direction of the voice and just blankly stared at its owner.

Although this person was saying that, it was obvious from his own energy fluctuations and tone that he himself was worried about the newcomers taking his place in the rankings.

Be it that Yu Xing person, or someone unknown.

Ranking is something that is highly regarded and of great importance in Silverdew Academy.

Every four months, there would be quarterly checks where every student of every department has a chance to show their prowess and strength.

It did not limit people to picking only the cream of the crop from the group, but anyone can join the ranking competition and compete eagerly with someone in order to achieve a higher status.

Of course, these things come as a double edged sword.

The students who sign up for the ranking competition are aware that once they do they only have one of two endings.

One is that if they win in the ranking competition, they would proudly get the ranking of the person they competed against and this would be their glory as they are victorious.

But looking at the short end of the stick, if one were to lose and their rankings drop more than ten places of their original standing or if they lost twice in a stand off, they had to be thrown out of the academy, no questions asked.

This brutal rule that was drafted upon by the headmasters made a large number of students who vied for a higher ranking cower in fear.

Yes, they wanted to move up along the ladder but they did not want to take risks.

Nevertheless, the number of students who signed themselves up for the ranking competition never lessened the hundreds and only a handful were those who were fearful of this ruthless rule.

"Figures, if they had real power the headmasters would have opened up a free passage for them" one of the loud mouthed guys' friend decided to stick up for him.

"What a sad bunch" the tallest one shook his head and crossed his arms around himself "Knowing they have to deal against Yu Xing is already troublesome enough" he looked like he pitied the students who had their fates tied up to taking the exam today.

It was as if he already knew the outcome of the exam.

Isn't it a bit too early to judge though?

Zhu Ling thought of this as she stared closely at the four men.

"They might have hidden their true potential you know" the smallest and youngest one from the bunch let out his unpopular thought and looked worriedly at the young man who spoke first.

"Tch, lies. What would you gain by doing that?" The tall person once again said and sneered at the one who blurted out this thought. "No matter what the only one who Mo Fu has to be worried about is Yu Xing anyway."

"Give him a break, a small fry like him already got to know us and that's the most his luck can give him. You cant possibly think his mind would still work as quick as ours would you?" the one called Mo Fu replied.

Mo Fu didn't seem to want to keep the situation only between their group as his voice tried to fight against the other chatters in the room, overpowering them effortlessly.

He bellowed quite loudly while looking at the small kid like he was some kind of trash that did not deserve his presence.

"Geez, that kid is going at Mo Fu again?"

"Didn't he learn his lesson last time? Sick kid, he is begging to be beaten up"

"Pitiful"

"Leave him alone, even if he gets beaten up who cares. It was his mistake in the first place"

"Going against Mo Fu would be your last wish anyway"

As Mo Fu heard the chatters that were going on around him, it somehow gave him more confidence than before.

"Low life, know your place" he mentioned while he was still looking at the small kid when smirked and called his other 2 friends to walk away with him, leaving behind a lonely figure that was drenched in sadness.

"He deserves what he gets"

"Someone already made it into Mo Fu's group of friends yet he isn't even satisfied with that"

"What can you do? Wasn't he the one who had a scholarship?"

"Low upbringing really shows clearly huh"

Zhu Ling watched as the situation became odd and uncomfortable, but she did not do anything. She was not involved and she would not want to get involved in useless drama.

All she did after then was wait for the time to pass by while listening to the chatter of her surroundings
