Chereads / The Next Archangel / Chapter 10 - Unholy aura

Chapter 10 - Unholy aura

The angels had been on a neverending walk that made the forest look even more enchanting the deeper they walked. They had come across a small swallow on the ground that flew away when it met their eyes. That was all the proof they needed that birds did exist in this world. Kyle had unstrapped his sword and would swing it from time to time just for fun. The blades of grass reacted to each swing making waves in their movements...

Alicia was still skipping and had more than once tripped on the odd pebble. Blue glowing mushrooms lit up the forest when they had walked for 4 more minutes.

"I think we should stop walking."

"Why?"

"I'm pretty sure that I'm sensing something up ahead."

"What kind of aura?"

"Definitely something unholy."

Kyle frowned at Hannah's comment. Anything unholy to an angel was never good. Alicia stopped skipping and looked at the other two in a calm gaze. She moved her hand to her bow but Kyle stopped her with a shake of his head.

Hannah had been thinking quietly to herself while Kyle and Alicia waited for her to speak.

"The aura hasn't moved a single bit...it could be that it's something inanimate, someone resting or possibly waiting for us."

"How far ahead is it?"

"About 200 metres or so...most likely less."

Hannah was gifted with the ability of [holy radar] from her mother. It allowed her to sense anything that could be considered magic such as mana, aura or even divinity. It was limited by her own mental fortitude, but the unholy aura was definitely something bad.

Alicia was also given the ability by their mother but hers was more of fighting ability. Kyle had the notebook currently as it had been transferred around a lot.

He turned to the first page and in a clear tone, he asked a question.

"Do we have to deal with everything that can be considered evil..."

[The method to finish the test is for you to decide...However, if you do wish to handle all evils it may help in your final score...but always remember, don't blind yourself in heroics- Jesus]

Kyle was happy with the answer and snapped the notebook shut.

"So we definitely don't have to deal with it...but I think we should at least see what it is."

"Are you really that willing to put your life in danger!?!?"

"I'm not putting my life in danger I just don't want to leave any threats..."

At that Hannah was silent, Kyle was always insecure with 'threats' and often went overboard if he considered something as a 'threat'. Alicia's face couldn't be seen as she looked at the ground in a different direction.

"Fine, we will see what it is and if it isn't a threat we don't talk about it anymore, deal?"

"YUP!"

Kyle was happy that at least his friends were willing to accompany him in his decision. He lifted the sword and the blade landed on his shoulder with his left palm on the spherical pommel.

"Let's go."

Kyle led the march with Hannah following closely after and Alicia silently matching her sister's pace. They walked farther and the blue glowing mushrooms had suddenly reduced in quality and a small sense of foreboding enveloped the angels. Kyle didn't like that and asked for Hannah to keep a larger distance away from him. He was now serious with the foreboding still pressuring him.

He could see a space that had nothing but a small tree stump and a dark figure sitting on it. The figure's size was hard to determine but Kyle didn't care about that. The moonlight illuminated the clearing and the grass seemed to become less bright in colour.

Finally, Kyle stepped into the clearing and he narrowed his eyes at the figure. It was definitely a living creature as he could see a hand coming out of a black cloak that concealed everything else. The hand was making a 'hello' gesture and Kyle responded with the same gesture.

There was no need to unnecessarily anger something he didn't know about. If anything he had only come to determine whether it was a threat or not. He tried to strike up a conversation first.

"I'm a traveller and I was just looking for an exit from this forest...do you know of any path I can take?"

"Wow, to see an angel lie...so satisfying."

"I have not lied I really am travelling and was looking for a path to leave but since you know what I am this makes things different."

"So you bent the truth."

There was a quick flash of crimson under the hood of the individual. The foreboding sense seemed to increase. Apparently, the individual didn't like people bending truths. Kyle simply smiled and said.

"Angels can never lie in the first place."

At this, the foreboding doubled and Kyle placed his left hand on the grip defensively. His eyes flashed goldenly and he asked a new question.

"What are you..."

"A witch."

Kyle was shocked at the response he loosened his grip. Witches were rarely seen as a majority of them would be hunted by several races. They signed deals with all kinds of devils and were most proficient in curses.

{So that's why Hannah senses an unholy aura...}

"I would like it if you would leave me be as I do not need to talk with an angel."

Kyle was relieved as he wasn't sure if he could fight a devil-worshipper. He nodded his head silently and looked behind him as the other two caught up. Alicia had returned to her usual carefree attitude and Hannah twitched a little when she saw the witch.

"She's a witch."

"Oh!"

Kyle apologised to the witch for the disturbance and with his friends, he passed the tree stump and the slightly hunched witch. The witch made no movements as the group left the clearing and when she was sure that they had gone. She finally let out a sharp breath.

{WHAT THE HECK ARE SUCH POWERFUL ANGELS DOING HERE!?!?!}

She was scared as when she had seen Kyle approach her she felt a powerful aura restrict her powers and forced her heart to stop. The grip had gone now but while she was with Kyle it was tightening each second she spent in Kyle's presence. She had acted as if nothing was bothering her when she first heard Kyle speak to her.

He was casual and so the witch acted dangerously and a tad bit rude. The pressure hadn't increased so it seemed she was fine. Then her devil blood boiled and her own aura fighting the pressure increased and the angel seemed to react defensively yet the pressure on her hadn't decreased.

Then the other two appeared and her mouth was shut. She couldn't move either and her mind was slowly degrading.

{IT HURTS!!!}

She slowly calmed down and tried getting up only to stumble on fall onto the ground. Her brain and body had lost connections and were still reconnecting. She couldn't open her mouth and her heart shook her body every time it pumped.

{I'll have to tell the high witches...}
