Chapter 5 - Coffee time

Sarah sat on one of the tables and looked around.

The café was almost empty. No sign of the man she waited for.

The atmosphere inside was really calm. The radio was playing quite romantic songs and combined with the quiet buzz from the other visitors it created a really nice surrounding which could easily make one feel comfortable and let them speak out their truthful thoughts.

One of the waitresses went closer to her, but was simply sent away.

Where could her "guest" be?

Five more minutes passed and when she was just about to leave the door of the café opened.

A tall, dark haired man with almost black eyes came in. It was him.

"Finely" thought Sarah while he was coming closer to the table.

- Good to see you my lady - he made a small reverence - I'm glad that you didn't leave before I came.

Was he serious... The situation wasn't even close to requiring such demeanor. Or was he somehow testing her, to see how she reacts and making a conclusion about her temperament... Or maybe neither...

Whatever it was she had to play it cool.

- Well I had to make it up to you... because of the jacket.

- Didn't I tell you that it wasn't necessary, my lady - something similar to a smirk appeared on his face but vanished almost immediately. This movement of his was so fast and undistinguishable that if it wasn't for Sarah's perfect eyesight it would still remain unseen.

The waitress' face, who had fed up with being sent away by the young girl, lightened at the sight of the two sitting comfortably and opening the menu. Little did she know what everything before her eyes was about.

- What would you like to have? - She asked after waiting a bit.

- Amerricano for me and for the young lady... - He stopped and looked at her.

- Black latte with caramel - She might be a serial killer, but that didn't mean she couldn't drink what every other "self-loving" girl drank.

The waitress nodded lightly with her head and went off.

Silence...

- Your order is ready - It had taken about 5 or 10 minutes - An amerricano for the gentleman and one black latte with caramel for the lady.

Sarah looked at her with a look that clearly said she wasn't comfortable with being told "lady", but the waitress only lightly lifted her eyebrows, it was part of her job after all.

More silence...

The young man sipped a bit and then fixed his eyes on Sarah.

- So are you going to say something or will you only stare at me? - His tone was serious, but it still had a note of softness in his rather deep almost husky voice.

He didn't lie. Sarah did actually stare at him from the moment both sat on the table.

From the viewpoint of a stranger the whole scene seemed as if Sarah had a crush on this young fellow and went out with him to confess her feelings, while he was trying to find a way out of the situation, without making her feel bad, because of the one-sided love she had for him.

Indeed, if Sarah was an ordinary girl, and her temperament was such, this would without a doubt be the case.

But let's not forget why she even invited him here and not to mention - purposely bumping into him and "accidentally" ruining his jacket, so that she got more information about him and hopefully winning his trust.

The whole time her eyes were on him, she analysed his persona.

So far she only knew that he was really thoughtful of what he does and what facial expression he makes. Not only that, but he was also good at keeping his poker face.

Quite admirable.

- Sorry, my mind wondered for a bit. - Was her answer and to make it even more "true" she chuckled lightly.

- And where was this mind of yours? - He smirked a little.

Finely! She got what she wanted to get out of him!

Her conclusion,

She was being tested...
