The Unfortunate Party Pooper
Everybody was shocked and the little party totally ruined. The whole customers looked towards their tables, mouths open. Some even clicking pictures.
"You mean girls. What the fuck do you all know about life born with a silver spoon on your mouth? Work and earn for a living and try that without your parents' riches. Or stop sleeping with men to get higher up posts and work your honest way and see if you reach anywhere. Aren't you ashamed to make such a comment you bitch?" she told Maria and Mira. "And you, why don't you try loving your fiancé instead of his money?" she looked at Sara's face. All dripping in milkshakes and coffee, their expensive clothes ruined. She regretted throwing them and understood she overreacted. All of life's frustration ejected in June's important gathering. "Oh damn it!" she murmured.
"Stop Destiny. Leave," June said not even looking at her face.
"June, I" Destiny began but was stopped by June's expression she couldn't read what. June got up.
"Am asking you to leave," June said again avoiding her face and Destiny walked away. June watched her as she left and she turned toward her girl gang. "I am so sorry for what she did. I didn't expect her to do this. Sorry," June apologized sincerely.
"So disappointed June. Did you hear what she called us? Such a crazy wench and you let her. I can't believe this. I am really ANGRY June. We all are," Sara screamed as everyone watched them. She was in so much rage covered in whipped cream and chocolate sauce from the drink.
"That whore she got to learn a lesson!" Maria said. "We should teach her that. Such a party pooper,"
"Guys please," June tried to console and calm them all and saw Destiny watching her from the outside. June was for a moment confused and feeling guilty. Thinking whether she should have stopped them bad mouthing Destiny and console her instead. But she felt angry too for Destiny acting childish and creating a fuss.
Yuri Kim dragged her and walked away to get a cab. They didn't wish to go home soon but had no idea where to go at this mood. Kim suddenly saw the bus that goes to the museum park. And walked down fast to the bus stop.
"Come get on the bus, it takes us to your favorite spot."
"The park?" Destiny asked back.
"Yes." They got on the bus and paid. "By the way am glad you did that," Kim laughed out loud trying to make the atmosphere feel better.
"Right, Right?" Destiny asked her. "God Yuri am dying. I was so frustrated since morning and this and Dan's call everything pissed me off, I just wanted to feel better and I did that all."
"Nothing is that wrong except you know their clothes cost shit. Would they demand compensation? The hair, the dress and bags and shoes everything was ruined," said Kim counting everything Destiny had spilled drinks on.
"Oh my god, do you think I did not think of that the moment I did it was what came into my head. I really insulted June," Destiny buried her head in her lap.
"How?" Yuri questioned her
"The things I shouted were all stuffs June shared with me. It was supposed to be a secret between us. They are not supposed to know that I know. And that June and I are this close!" she replied.
"Wow. If my guesses are right, Maria still lives off from her parents' money, Mira slept with a guy to get a job and married the boss and Sara is marrying for money again. You are so screwed and that's the end for you and June," Yuri blurted out without thinking. And Destiny sat straight looking at Yuri and looking away.
They sat in silence half the way until Kim received a call from her new boyfriend. She is so excited to get going on dates because he is actually a European and still has no idea how she managed to get him and be asked out by him. According to her they met in center point during shopping and exchanged number instantly.
"Carlo asked me if am free. He wishes to go on a date Destiny. Is it okay if I go?"
"My goodness Daebak! Go Yuri run," Destiny felt happy for her.
"Gumavuo eonni, by the way, let's watch 100 days my prince from tonight onwards okay? After I reach. I will be back before 11," She said, hugged Destiny and got out in the very next bus stop. Destiny, smiling waved her goodbye and continued her long journey to her favorite place. She checked her phone, there were no messages from her gang of friends back from her place. She felt very disappointed. 'Did I wrong everyone?' she always wondered. Nobody kept close company with her now, after the disaster. Or say shut out everyone would rather sound more meaningful. Tears unknowingly trickled down her cheek as the bus passed each signal and traffics towards the destination. She had no idea how she would be returning back home yet chose to spend a long time in the park.
The air was no longer humid, but the sky, as usual, was not clear. "I can't remember what stars look like anymore," she told herself and walked through the footpath. Park was crowded as all the time packed with multi-nationality folks. One thing she loved being away from home was only this. The independence and the different people and food she gets to meet and eat. She loved this part of life, ignoring the rest. Since the summer is almost over, the plants no longer looked dry and about to wither. Even the flowers were blooming. The trees looked so green in the bright lights. Kids were running around away from the parents' clutches. Families were everywhere with picnic equipment and gears with them and relaxing around, some even doing barbeque. There was only very little wind. The carnival area was filled with kids and teenagers for the rides and food stalls. All those smiling faces and begging parents for more rides looked warm and peaceful. She smiled. 'This is life, at the end of the day I am always alone. Alone with my worries and insecurities, along with every tension I could shoulder and avoiding to think of home and family back in the home. Trying to escape reality as I walk through this gray concrete paths looking at the colorful lights of the skyscrapers shining in the distance across the bay.' she reached the back side of the park that had the view to the city, West Bay. She climbed the tiny hill set up for the people to sit with lawn. And sat around in the middle. There were only a few people in this area. As she sat in silence, she kept counting the number of airplanes' every minute to her right side in the airport in distance.
Destiny took her phone again and checked if there were any messages from anyone. Yet nothing. Not even one from her sister. She felt bad. She felt numb and upset. 'Should I text? I was the one who didn't reply to anyone.' She thought and typed a "hi" and sent her sister and forwarded them all to her friends. She waited holding the phone and kept looking at them waiting for all their replies. Few weren't online and few let the message in read. Destiny for a moment felt nothing kept the phone back in the nag and stared into the distance. She was being bold and strong. She was in no mood to listen to any music too. 'I should have got something to drink' she thought sat lazily not wishing to walk all the back and get something to drink and eat. Her phone beeped. Excited and in hope of seeing the messages. But it was nothing she expected. It was Kim Yuri sending a selfie with her new boyfriend in Souq walking down the Wakrah beach.
"That's cute. Both of you :D" Destiny replied to the message and sat silently. It was beginning to get cold as the time passed she looked at the watch, it was going to be 10 soon. She didn't care leaving and lay down in her back. Out of the blue Destiny jumped up and crossed the path and stood on top of the rocks near the water. There were many boats in the distance carrying the tourists and playing loud Arabic music. She stood there tempted for something she wasn't sure about. She recalled her whole day. Early morning and late nights, work and stress, freaking superiors and subordinates always getting on the nerves, stupid meetings with the vicious group and June, the rude things and cruel judgments, her overreaction, and end of a good friendship. "Oh damn it," she said loudly. She was standing on the edge on top of the rocks, the waves of water hitting and spraying on her a little bit. There was no one there as she looked around and she stood there breathing heavily.
Suddenly out of nowhere, she heard footsteps behind her. "Are you planning on jumping in?" she heard a deep voice close to her. Shocked and in horror she turned to face the person and stepped behind with a leg in the air and the other leg slipping. She knew it. All she could remember was her screaming loud with nothing to hold on to as she fell into the waters. She was scared. 'I didn't want to die this way' she thought as she as saw the blurry figure through the water in the distant above her. 'Was that the grim reaper who came to take me with him?' she thought calmly as she began to sink.
