Vayle took a quick glance at the sleeping once more before facing his friend. The two were definitely odd, one more aggressive than the other, but overall harmless.
" So why are you two travelling, with so little especially?" She asked calmly motioning to the two bags at the men's feet.
" Oh, well you see," Tanen started as he debated the story. To tell the full truth or tell a lie. " So we come from Earlstone a small village down south-east, its a harbour and trade port."
" Yes, I've heard of it, the chief is quite the man I've heard."
" Ugh, yeah him. He's actually mostly why we left home, Cal was just tired of it and so was I so an adventure seemed like the best way to get away from it. Heading where ever we found first and going from there." He ended with a smile.
" Bitter memories?"
The question caused a sad chuckle to rise from his throat " Yeah bitter. The things people would say to Cal was just so wrong, just for being kinda different. It's not really my story to tell, so you'll have to ask him when he warms up to you."
" When? No, if he warms up," Vayle scoffed.
" Really it just takes time, he doesn't trust people," He explained, quickly change the subject." Ah, so how far away are we now from uh-"
" Not far really, Theo has a bad habit of exaggerating," She replied with a small yet lovely smile.
" If I'm allowed to ask, we heard something about you being in a rush?"
" Well I don't know the whole situation but someone is injured and she's very close to me, just worried really," Her voice was quiet, barely there. It doesn't wasn't the response he was expecting but it was a response that was for sure.
" Well, I hope she's okay." He replied, his expression and tone showing his honesty as well as he could. It's a bit hard to understand the exact relationship those two have but she clearly means a lot to Vayle, and so he made a promise in his head to send any prayers to the injured girl. " Can I ask about her?"
His question caused a reaction in Vayle. Her eyes blew wide and bright, her mouth turned upwards into a giant smile.
" Her name is Kyia, shes a hybrid like I am, but she's a much purer bloodline that I am. She's a lovely girl and we've been friends since we were small. Thinking back she hasn't changed much, still the same troublemaker." Her voice was pitched higher with the happiness of the fond memories that were flying through her head.
The two talked for hours as the carriage kept the same pace the whole journey. The only time anything different happened was they hit a bump on the trail causing the carriage to jump and rock a bit, or Cal snoring as he drooled on his shoulder. Cute.
The carriage came to a stop eventually and the door flew open to reveal Theodore with his bright smile. He motioned the group out and the chose to leave Cal where he was as he was practically dead to the world.
Tanen looking around at the new scenery was in awe. Buildings taller than he has ever seen stood before and all around him, all made of stone by the looks of it. The older buildings much darker and covered in ivy and moss or various other plants giving the town a still foresty appearance. The road they stood on was made of cobblestone of various colours from reds to browns to greys of different shades and shapes. Vayle was missing and Theodore stood in front of an iron gate that was wide open. He motioned him inside and escorted him to the mossy stone building. It was homey and warm inside much to his surprise, rows of wooden tables and benches filled the main room, the walls covered in plants both alive and flowering as well as dried. The massive fireplace against the main wall was roaring even though it was warm enough outside, but the fire gave it a warm orange glow.
Hybrids of various types and purity stood around or sat on the various benches mingling with others and humans alike.
" Welcome to the Oasis, are you lost?" A tall man said as he stood too close for Tanens comfort.
" Uh no, I was with a girl... Vayle? Her driver brought me and my friend here." He replied flustered. The man in front of him was quite attractive if he did say so himself. The man was much taller than he was standing at around 6'5, a few inches taller than Cal, his face was slim with high cheekbones covered in light and dark brown freckles. Large yellow eyes stared into his grey ones as he admired the man whose hair was loosely slicked back yet pieces feel in front of his eyes that were framed with thin glasses.
" Vayle?" He said as he peered upwards in thought." Oh, she ran by in quite the rush not too long ago looking for Kyia. I can take you to her if you wish."
" Are those feathers in your hair?" He said before he could think." Oh no, you don't have to answer that I'm sorry I-I should just think before I speak and-"
The man let out a hefty laugh as he watched the small man freak over a simple thing. " It's quite alright really, and yes they are feathers and yes they do grow from my head." He said as he moved his white hair out of his face, though it didn't do much as it all fell back where it was.
" Right sorry,"
" It's quite alright, let me show you to Kyia's room."
