Chapter 10 - Chapter 9

" Come on man," Tanen whined swinging his legs under the table.

" What?" Cal grumbled beside him, face in the mug of coffee.

" Drink faster, it's rude to make them wait."

" I will take however long I wish Tan," Cal said with his classic grin. He wasn't just stalling, the coffee was damn good and he needed to know what beans they used to make it. It was rich and smooth yet surprisingly not all that bitter.

" You know I like this place, feels like a home." Cal just peered at his friend, sipping on his coffee. " Don't look at me like that man, they feel like a family and I wanna stay here for as long as possible."

With a curse and a huff, Cal stood up from the bench, swinging his legs over the sides. " Okay, come on then." He said as he grabbed his still not empty mug and Tanens arm as he began trudging for the stairs.

" Wait where are we going?" Tanen asked trying to pry his friend's hand off his arm.

" We are going to that meeting room and we are staying," He replied as they reached the bottom of the stairs. " If you wanna be happy here you damn well will be." Tanen just smiled at Cal's forceful nature. He was good at heart but stubborn and distrustful in new places, but he really meant well.

The second floor was odd. Not like weird decorations or anything but because it wasn't just an open hallway from the stairs. Just at the top of the stairs to the second floor, they were met with a wooden door. It looked to be made of stained pine like the tables and benches downstairs in the main hall, the handle was a basic grey iron worn down clearly over the years of it being touched. Stepping through the threshold of the door, they were met with a much colder area than the rest of the building. In the middle was a large round pine table surrounded in chairs of the same wood. The walls adorned with large tapestries of different colours showing the different legendary hybrids and some for what should have been the day of peace for humans and hybrids. What a joke that was. Klaus, Vayle and Kyia all sat on the furthest side of the table so they faced the door.

" You could have at least changed your shirt, Cal," Vayle said with a disapproving mother look. The other two just sat and smiled.

" Packed light and there's nothing wrong with my shirt princess." He spat back with a grin as he and Tanen sat down opposite of the others. " Mentioned something about recruiting us so let's get on with it."

" Straight to the point I like it," Kyia said as her S's slid off her tongue. Klaus started sifting through papers in front of him as he picked certain ones from the pile.

" Here this is a simple contract just asking you not to tell anyone about us and what the Oasis actually is." He said as he slid the papers over.

Do not tell anyone about The Oasis, doing so will result in termination of this contract and henceforth forfeiting your life. This is a lifetime contract unless we can be assured you will not tell anyone or in a case of serious injury.

___________X

" Is that it?" Cal asked as he read over the single paragraph over and over to see if maybe he missed something by chance, between the lines even. " Seems a bit short for a contract."

" Well we aren't a legal team so what did you expect." Klaus rebutted as he took the spare paper from Kyia who was folding the piece into an odd triangular shape.

" This is very, til death do us part eh?" Tanen said as he signed his name in clear cursive. Cal followed suite but his writing wasn't as smooth and was crudely printed out on the paper.

" Well with that done we welcome you official to Oasis, the front of the war to equalize rights for hybrids," Klaus said with a clap of his hands as he stood to retrieve the papers for safekeeping and promptly left the room.

" Basically just signed my life away didn't I," Cal said to no one in particular and he should have kept that thought in his head as Vayle replied.

" You read it did you not, or is the countryman illiterate."

" Vayle that wasn't very nice," Kyia said as she lightly shoved her sister to knock her smirk off her face. " Its always nice to have new people, feel free to ask whatever you'd like and keep your room we gave you."

" Well, actually I do have one question," Tanen said with a raise of his hand. " Are you two actually sisters?"

Kyia and Vayle exchanged glances at each other before laughing aloud. " No, how could you think that?" Kyia said clutching her ribs as she rocked from laughter.

" We look nothing alike!" Vayle screamed through her fit of giggles, her hand smacking the table as tears gathered in both girl's eyes. " We are just sisters by promise really, not by blood."

Tanen's face flushed red as he watched them attempt to calm down, but they'd bring it back up and restart their fits. He couldn't handle the embarrassment as he mumbled into his hands in an attempt to hide his tomato red face. Cal just watched on in amusement.

" You know I bet birdbrain is in his room right now, go pay him a little visit," Cal whispered into his friend's ear and if it was possible his face would have gotten so much redder. Tanen quickly stood and made a mad dash for the door, slamming it behind him. So Cal took this as his time to leave standing up from the table and heading for the only door.

" Oh, you leaving somewhere Cal?" Kyia asked catching her breath.

" Yeah gonna head into town and look around." He replied as he closed the door behind him beginning his proper exploration of a new area.
