Cal woke to an unease silence. It wasn't completely silent but he was expecting to wake to the sound of Tan and Vayle talking away, not the sound of leisurely chatting and horses walking on what sounds like a stone road. So he grabbed their bags and walked into the large stone building that Theodore was standing in front of at the main doors.
" Your friend went up to the third floor, end of the hall, its the door on the right," Theodore explained as he opened the heavy wooden doors for Cal to step through.
He didn't look around, just focusing on finding Tan before anything bad could happen. The guy trusted strangers too easily it wasn't healthy. He skipped two stairs at a time as he ran up to the third floor of the building. Hearing voices in the hallway he followed them as he neared the end. ' Door on the right.' He thought opening it to see Tan sitting on a chair beside Vayle who was talking to the snake hybrid who lay on the long bed.
" Klaus who opened the door?" Vayle asked but didn't look. Her eyes stayed focused on the girl in front of her. Her long green body was actually too long for the bed she was laying in, she was clearly awake but hadn't spoken yet.
" Appears to be a lizard," Klaus said with a shit-eating grin.
" See, birdbrain knows I'm a lizard," Cal said dropping the bags just off the side of the door.
" Ah, I said lizard and aren't dragons considered overgrown lizards?"
" Klaus can you not fight with the new guy," The snake girl said as she sat up.
" We aren't fighting," The two tall men said in unison before glaring at each other.
" Yeah and I have legs," She said dragging her S's. " Listen you two lovely brutes can either knock it off or go fight outside, I got bets on the new guy."
" Kyia!" Vayle gasped at her friend's rough phrasing. " There will be no fighting. Cal sit down, Klaus shut it."
The glare the men received was sharp and hard. Klaus just adjusted his glasses while Cal leaned against the wall folding his arms. Just waking up and he's already being yelled at? Great way to begin the evening.
" Well this isn't how I wanted to introduce the main group to you two and I apologize for that. Tanen that's Klaus, Klaus you met Tanen earlier and Cal that's Klaus as I've said too many times. He's my advisor? Anyways, and this is Kyia, my sister." Vayle explained quickly. Everyone looked between each other soaking in the appearances and new names. The snake's short hair bright green hair bounced as she looks between the new faces excitedly.
" Oh you gotta tell me about your adventures," She practically yelled. " About your town! No, wait yes! You gotta tell me everything you know."
" Kyia then can tell you all about it at a later date right now we need to focus on what happened to you," Klause asked, voice stern.
Kyia shifted on the bed, awkwardly and uncomfortable. She was covered in bandages some fresh others needed a change as blood already seeped through. Cal could see where spots in her hair were cut shorter than the rest so cuts could be stitched to heal properly." Well, I was doing recon like I was supposed to and well either intel was wrong or we have a mole."
" What makes you think that?" Klaus asked, removing a notebook from the back pocket of his pants, mindlessly scribbling away.
" Well they just seemed already on guard for a potential spy, they knew I was there," She continued. " I couldn't do anything nor get away, a dagger was sent through my tail tip and I was pinned to the tree to be beaten and attacked. They even wanted to defang me!"
The scribbling was fast and insisting as Klaus came to ideas and wrote what she said before sighing. " Intel wasn't wrong there's no way, I triple check everything. Mole is the only option." He let out a small chuckle." Ironic we don't have a mole on the team though."
" Klaus really?" Vayle said in clear disbelief at the man's joke." You're what, near thirty and you make such bad jokes?"
" I think it was pretty funny," Tanen said with his usual bright smile. Everyone shook their heads at the two. It was a pretty bad joke and it was dropped quickly as the need to focus on the mole was greater.
" Klaus, what are we supposed to do?" Vayle asked as she stood from her chair and marched towards him to stare him in the eyes. For someone so small she seemed much larger than she was. " Do we start a buddy system or do we just spy on our own?"
" Vayle I'll think about it tonight and tell you in the morning, first thing I swear," He replied softly as he shoved her out the door. " You need rest, you need to be strong for your sister's recovery, okay?"
She rubbed her eyes sluggishly and nodded as she began walking down the hall before Klaus turned to Cal and Tanen. " There's a room set up for you two on the first floor Cal you can head there now, it's the room right by the stairs so it's easy to find."
Cal grabbed the bags once more as he lifted himself off the wall. He was just walking out the door as he saw Klaus grab Tanen and whisper something in his ear. His face flushed red as he flapped his mouth like a fish out of the water as Klaus was laughing and pushing him thru the door.
Cal just stared at his embarrassed friend as they silently walked to the room. He was always easy to fluster unless Klaus actually said something flirty to him. Oh, he'll kill him if he did, Tanen didn't need someone to hurt him right now. No not just now, not ever.
The room was simple and bland, just what they needed really. Two twin beds on either side of the room with wooden end tables and lanterns on each. Only one wardrobe though but it's not like they needed much room for clothes anyway.
" We picking a bed." Tanen asked looking around the room.
" Just pick one and go to bed, you dunce," Cal replied as he plopped on one of them, not bothering to strip or get under the beige covers.
" Well, you just made the choice for me didn't ya." Cal could feel his friend's bright smile and eyes on the back of his head as he rolled onto his side with a deep grunt. " Well, goodnight you grumpy reptile."
